I've been to dozens of dim sum restaurants in the GTA. This was the worst.
Food I ordered:
Deep fried squid tentacles: not bad, but not great Kalbi: deep fried to a crisp, it tasted like jerky. Probably my fault for ordering kalbi in a dim sum restaurant, but this was bad. Har gow: flavorless Beef cheung fung: flavorless, and the beef filling had an odd consistency Beef short ribs: super chewy Char siu bao: barely any filling, and the bun was very dense Egg tarts: sweet, but somehow the filling was rubbery! Mango pudding: good, but they served it initially without condensed milk, and we had to ask for it, which really annoyed me. Then they brought the smallest little bowl of milk I've ever seen...
I have only ever written five star reviews on Google, but the service at this one combined with the brutal food warranted a review. Normally I don't expect much service at a dim sum restaurant. They bring the food, I eat it, it's tasty, I leave. But our waiter somehow managed not to say a word to us the whole meal. When I asked for a refill of water, he placed a pitcher of water next to my empty cup and walked away. The tipping point for me was serving the mango pudding without condensed milk, and acting surprised when we asked for it (the mango pudding picture on the menu has the milk on it). It was just a ridiculous...
Read moreI ordered 5 dishes @9pm it was hot and ready @ 9:15pm. I'm particularly picky with my Chinese food cuz It's what I grew up with and I've been spoiled having lived close to Spadina Ave, Chinatown. Food was decent, I ordered fried rice noodles with beef and bean sprouts, Shanghai noodles (with house made Char Siu ...BBQ pork), fried chicken wings, shrimp fried rice and Beef n Broccoli (Canadian Broccoli my husband's choice). The noodles had the right chew, the rice noodles were a wee over done but the Wok Hei (slight smokey char) made up for it. The rice was great as one would expect fried rice to be with a handful of big juicy whole shrimps. Beef n Broccoli had the right chew and the right sauce, not the type of sauce that snaps back. The Shanghai noodles were tasty but on the slightly sweet side maybe because the strips of Char Siu is slightly on the sweet side. Chicken Wings were perfect, big and perfectly fried. Juicy and crunchy. I didn't have any expectations going in but I would definitely order take out from them again. The portion size is much more than what I usually got served downtown. Especially when they give you 10% off when you pay with cash! #supportlocal #etobicokeeats...
Read moreI just got delivery and it was the worst food I’ve had in the city for years. I got pork and shrimp siu mai (two separate items) and I was convinced the pork was shrimp due to the fishy smell. After opening the actual shrimp siu mai I was immediately turned off by the rotting fish smell and decided I would not be eating that at all.
Being hungry, I tried the pork siu mai. Had it with rice and lots of soy sauce to attempt to mask the taste and I just could not do it. Spat it out but apparently even that was not enough as I just threw up an hour later. I regret eating the short ribs I got from them cause clearly they have a food safety issue.
I don’t leave reviews often and I won’t be asking for refund as it was a small order. I understand this is not exactly a premium restaurant but I saw the reviews saying the dim sum is good even if the standard offerings may not be. Don’t believe them. I don’t get sick either, normally my stomach is resilient. I’m not even the last person in the past few weeks to complain about this item being inedible. Something is seriously wrong here and I will likely look into how to follow up with the health department (again not something I have...
