Order 1 - Through Skip: 3 egg meal with ham. I asked for the eggs to be made omelet style, but it was just fried. The divots had pools of water in them. The potatoes were just warmed up. No color to them. The toast I received (rye) were the tiny end pieces.
Order 2 - In person (take out): Ordered the same thing. This time I asked for the eggs to be made over hard. They came out exactly the same way as the omelet style. Fortunately, they didn't have the divots filled with water. Potatoes were the same as well, no color to them. The toast (rye) were middle pieces though, larger slices.
I'm not sure if the cook(s) know how to cook eggs, which is disappointing for a place called Eggsmart. Maybe I was just unfortunate to get the same cook on those seperate days, but hopefully a bit more training goes into reading the chits and cooking to specifications. I was thinking of asking for poached eggs, but I feel they might come out fried, again. Lower the heat a bit on those pans, the eggs shouldn't come put with a crust on them. Be sure to reiterate how you want your eggs cooked, unless they're fried, because you'll probably get them fried. Makes me scared to think how an omelet would turn out.
As for the potatoes, prep them in the oven on a pan so they get some color, then finish them on the griddle when ordered. They looked so delicious on the menu, but disappointing on the plate.
Toast: if you're giving rye ends, maybe consider giving an extra slice or two. The two I got with delivery didn't even equal the size of one that I got from take out.
I ordered on two separate days and now I'm wishing I took pictures to show the eggs.
And before a fuss is made, I've worked 8-9 years as a breakfast cook, with 20+ years overall experience in the kitchen.
I dont have much interaction with the servers. I had one directing me to sit and bring me a menu, then a different one to take my order and bring it to me. Both individuals seemed pretty kind and professional.
Restaurant looked fairly clean from where I was sitting, near the entrance.
I was sad they no longer had the breakfast skillets anymore. I remember stopping here years ago and got one, it was pretty good. homestyle hashbrowns covered with scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon, and cheese. Maybe they weren't...
Read moreI would never recommend this place. The food arrived first (after about 20 mins) and it was cold, we then had to wait (then beg) for cutlery, then, finally came coffee. The juice we ordered came after all the meals were done and cleaned up. We never received any water despite multiple requests. So basically, we ate the beginning of our meals with our hands and without drinks entirely. The service was truly atrocious. We never got a "sorry" our waiter bragged that he was the owner, but clearly has no leadership and we witnessed him yell at one of his workers. Im sitting here waiting for my bill and will never return. I dont think I've ever had worse service in my life.
Update: even though the coffee came after the meals, they charged us $6 for bottomless coffee, when none of us drank it because we were done and ready to leave. When we asked to have it removed the owner (also our server) yelled at us very loudly and said we were being rude. We were quite literally the furthest thing from being rude. We put up with the worst service without complaining, but didnt want to pay $6 for coffee I didnt drink. He took the coffees off the bill then added a service charge to the bill for the same amount and said it was required by law in Ontario (a lie). I honestly will look back at this experience and laugh now. I have never witnessed someone escalate so quickly over being questioned about truly terrible service at a restaurant.
Also, the next day we went to Frans just North of there and had a magical experience. Water and Coffee within 10 minutes of sitting down (who knew that was a luxury!) I highly recommend skipping this nonsense and having a much better...
Read moreFirst off I would like to say that I’ve been to several eggsmart locations in Toronto before and this location was far below the standard I am accustomed to enjoying. I bought my female friends that were in town for the Caribana festival and I convinced them to go to eggsmart instead of the Dennys that was closer to the hotel. I see now that was my mistake. We got there around 8:30am and it was a light crowd many open spots. We ordered and then proceeded to wait a very long time before our meals came. When they did arrive the sausages and eggs were cold. One of the meals was in a “skillet” and that was cold as well. The faux skillet was made out of plastic compared to the sizzling hot skillet we got at Denny’s the previous day. Now our waiter was not the problem he tried to accommodate one of the girls by bringing out some edible bacon. The real problem was the manager. I stepped away to use the restroom which was pretty bad in itself. When I returned the manager had his finger in my friends potatoes arguing that it was not cold and stating that avocado toast is supposed to be cold. Clearly he was not listening because our issue was with the eggs, sausage and bacon but he just wanted to be right. We never asked for any discount or to be comped for any meal. Just wanted to let them know we did not have a good experience. However, the manager made things worst with his argumentative nature and disrespectful attitude. I paid the bill for everyone and still left a tip for the waiter because I never like to short change wait staff. But I will not bring anyone in my network to this eggsmart again and instead give other local establishments...
