I thought the restaurant served great ecuadorian food, especially the Menestra, humitas, maduro, and the empanadas. A few people here are basing their experience on how they "expected" the dish to be and disregarding the fact that it was tasty. One person mentioned ordering a bisteck which would loosely translate to "steak" but in Ecuador a "bisteck" is not what here is considered a steak and as such, it's not served as one. Also, a Fritada is supposed to be served with a lot of the fat in the pork. That's what a fritada is, and that's the juicy part of it. It is not "a waste of money", it's just how the dish is made and appreciated. It's just a little disappointing to see that people can't even google what an international dish that they have never tasted or seen should be before making a review, or just ask the waiter next time what the dish is gonna be like. At least then if you don't like it, you just know you don't like that dish in particular and not damage the restaurant's reputation. Perhaps the restaurant should also better describe their dishes on the menu to avoid confusions from people thinking that they'll get an american style steak in an...
Read moreService can be greatly improved, the server looks like is part of management as they do not care at all about service.
Free advise: Greet the customer and welcome them, they can go somewhere else for the same price range. Talk to them, remember they want to feel like back at home.
Usually encebollado Is served with fried plantains (chifles) or popcorn or bread depending on the area you eat it. Never ever serve it alone.
Rice is usually yellow rice made with achiote not white rice. Guatita usually has lots of peanuts advise any customer because of allergies.
Alcohol: you CANNOT sell alcohol to an intoxicated individual either by alcohol or other herbs, you might lose your license! I doubt the server had her smart serve because this is clearly stated.
This was a bitter sweet experience, I might not come back here in the future if I don't see improvement on the following comments, there are more options...
Read moreWe ordered two $15 specials + $5 bottle of beer + $5 bowl of beans.
I ordered "steak" with rice and salad, which was nothing like a proper steak. It was a super-thin piece of meat measuring about 5mm thick, which got cold right away and was difficult to chew. It was by far one of the worst "steaks" I've ever tried.
My wife ordered pork, which was juicy and tasty. However, there was too much non-edible fat, which was a complete waste of money.
Modelo bottle of beer was $5. A bowl of beans was $5. To be honest, rice and beans were the best part of my experience at this restaurant. The sauce that comes with beans was so tasty that I couldn't get enough of the beans+rice combination.
Unfortunately, though, my overall experience was negative. Plus, that annoying music blasting from the speakers in the middle of the day was too much. I won't be back there....
