My partner, cousin, and I visited the pub last Friday night. This is the third time I came here in two weeks - the first time (St. Patrick's Day) was fantastic, the second time was okay, but the 3rd visit was disastrous. On Friday, April 1st, we arrived around 8:20pm and it was not busy (even the waitress acknowledged that it was much quieter than earlier).
DRINKS TOOK LONG, AND IT WASN'T GOOD ANYWAY - Our drink order was taken about twenty minutes later, and it took an additional 25 minutes to receive the drinks. I made a comment that the drinks took too long. Since the server seemed reluctant to adjust the bill for my drink, my cousin drank my drink just before we left, and apparently it was not a good Long Island anyway. I should have known, because the waitress had mentioned that she used to bartend, and said something about iced tea in the long island - any bartender or long island drinker knows that there is no tea in a long island!
My husband was so upset with the timing and the server's lack of regard, that he did not eat nor drink anything, and he went outside instead. This was supposed to be a celebratory visit, so our evening was ruined.
LACK OF CUTLERY: We received only 2 sets of cutlery for 3 people.
OUR FOOD WENT TO THE OTHER TABLE FIRST: For some reason, the staff who bring the food never seemed to know where the meals would go, and it would end up at the next table first, then make its way to us.
SERVERS WERE HARDLY AROUND: We had to wait quite a while for a server (any server, not even ours) to come close enough to ask for ketchup - which usually comes automatically when fries are ordered. When it was brought, it was nearly empty and definitely not enough for one person, let alone 3, but again, no servers were around to ask for another bottle.
BONES IN THE FISH AND CHIPS: I accidentally swallowed one, and there was at least one more. I stopped eating it for fear of swallowing more bones, and did not finish my meal.
CHARGE FOR EXTRA JALEPENOS, WHICH WERE NEVER RECEIVED, NOR ADVISED OF: We were charged $1.99 for extra jalepenos. The waitress made absolutely no effort to rectify the situation, but preferred to argue that the jalepenos were there. In addition, we were not informed that "lots of jalepenos" would be an extra charge. Yes, it is only $2, but usually they would let us know it's an extra charge.
NO MANAGER AVAILABLE TO DISCUSS: When we requested to speak with a manager, the waitress returned and said he must have stepped out because they ran out of something. She did offer to give us his phone number so we can discuss the issues over the phone, but she never made an attempt to actually give us the number.
UNPROFESSIONAL: Upon our departure, the waitress made a comment something to the effect that she hopes this does not reflect her service. Again, very unprofessional. If you have an unhappy customer, you try to let them leave on a happier note, not deflect blame away from yourself. And furthermore, If she was giving proper service, she would have came to check up on us more than once.
Usually, I do not like to put blame on the server. But I found she was unprofessional and did not try to resolve any of the problems. Perhaps she was new and inexperienced? If that is the case, then more time needs to be spent on training for new staff. She never even passed by our area to see if we needed anything - only once once when we were about 3/4 way through our meal.
I have been to many pubs and varying restaurants, and this is among the WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. It is a shame, because I thought I found a gem that was very close to home and as you can see, nearly $80 later, it was an...
Read moreImportant note! All locations are different. Which I don't understand. All locations are under the same company, so I would have thought the menu would be the same for consistency. I only went to this location because it was closer. I was craving the flavour from another location though. While the menu was different, i figured it would still taste as mouth-wateringly good. Wrong of me to assume I guess.
Also, check the signs on the door because they apparently don't accept debit. But dont worry, theres an atm conveniently there in case you forget smh.
For the entire place theres 1, maybe 2 people serving (one of them being behind the bar for the most part). It gets pretty busy because of the big groups that go (at least when I went). Ok np but they need to better manage the floor. People shouldn't have to wait so long just to order or to pay the bill. People had to literally go up to the server to pay.
The other thing is that the food is mid. If that. I appreciate the charbroiled burger. Very yummy. I dont appreciate that you have to add sauce to the burger yourself. If you can put it in a container, it costs nothing to put it directly on the burger upon request. The house chips (potato wedges) are not good. Some are cooked to crispy perfection. While most other pieces of wedges are not soft throughout, and quite frankly dry. The soft drinks are also watered down.
Idk if i just got them on a bad day. But make sure you read the reviews before making your decision. Also maybe try the dishes recommend by the reviews, especially if its your...
Read moreSo I used to come to this location more often pre-covid, and decided to give it another whirl. I originally craved the pulled pork poutine they had once upon a time, however since they didn’t have it anymore, I decided with the Guinness beef pie thing, (was torn between shepherds pie and potato skins too) but with the freshly fallen snow, I don’t regret my choice. (Despite having it for take out, and having bussed all the way from keele to don mills with the food, I will say that the quality was pretty decently kept despite the cold and travel time before nomming) Everything about the dish was generally very tasteful, and I quite enjoyed it. My only ripe might have been with perhaps the crust topping of the pie, seemed a little extra on the chewy side, however it still nommed just fine with the meat and gravy and mushrooms. I think perhaps next time I will try to enjoy it dined in, but for the fact I didn’t want to make anything myself, and the general atmosphere of the place has stayed relatively same over the years, (chilled at the bar for abit while waiting for the food), I can happily say I’ll definitely be coming back again...
