I had the worst experience ever at Galata restaurant during iftar. The place was packed like a children's playground, and the service was terrible. We waited for about 40 minutes before our food arrived, and when it did, it was nothing like what was described in the menu or what we had experienced during previous visits.
We ordered Cheese and Beef Pide, but it looked more like a rolled burned Naan filled with beef doner, and there was barely any cheese in it. There were no onions, tomatoes, or cilantro on the side, as advertised in the menu. The pide did not look like the picture on the menu, the website, or the Google reviews. We also ordered Mix Galata for two people, but the order was missing chicken pieces, and the beef was raw and chewy. The food was all piled up on a white plate, which looked nothing like the wooden tray shown on the website and reviews.
The customer service was terrible. The staff did not check on us unless we asked for something. When I mentioned the missing kabobs, the server asked me to pay the full amount and then brought the remaining pieces in a few minutes. However, it took them 25 minutes to apologize and ask about what was missing from our order. I was not interested in waiting for the missing kabobs, so I left the restaurant without them.
To top it off, they charged me around $100, including tips, for Pide that looked like a burned rolled naan from the top and bottom with no cheese or side veggies and for a Mix Galata for two people that looked like leftovers mixed together. We had called one hour before going there to reserve a spot, and I suggest they should not accept customers if they cannot serve them properly. After being a customer for two years, this was my last visit to Galata restaurant.
In conclusion, I would not recommend Galata restaurant to anyone. The food did not meet our expectations, and the customer service...
Read moreI'm not the biggest fan of Turkish cuisine (so treat my rating with a caveat), but even I had to appreciate how good Galata was.
We stopped by for dinner and the place was filled with Turks, so that was a good sign. We were seated in a booth (the space is huge!), and the server was great at making recommendations. We ended up getting: Cigar Rolls: Generous amount of feta cheese, thin and perfectly fried dough, tasty garlic dipping sauce. A winner! Cheese Pide with Chicken Doner: The pide itself was good - crisped well, chewy yet easily sliced through. The chicken was a bit meh (lacked flavour/kick) and would have liked more cheese in it. Iskender Kebab: The beef was sliced thinly (awesome) and was pretty tasty. It was a bit drowned out though by the tomato sauce. Side yogurt was a good palette cleanser. Pistachio Rolls: So good! The rolls were soaked through, the pistachios were generous. Kunefe: Another winner dessert. It looked like a fried "nest" soaked with a just-the-right-sweetness-level of syrup, again with the generous pistachios, and a huge slab of cheese on top that paired perfectly with all the sweetness. Uludag: Turkish pop, which tasted like creme soda.
Dishes are a bit pricey but serving sizes justify it (you can definitely split). As I mentioned earlier, topnotch service and huge space. So while I'm not the biggest fan of Turkish cuisine, I can see why...
Read moreWe decided to grab dinner with a group of seven people in the evening. Our plan was simple: enjoy some delicious kebabs and then continue on with our outing. However, things took an unexpected turn after we placed our order. The restaurant staff asked us to switch tables to accommodate a larger group, which we understood. But once we settled at the new table, things started to go downhill. Despite telling us they would bring over our leftover drinks and glasses, they never followed through. The waitstaff and other employees seemed to lack any warmth or understanding. To make matters worse, it took a whole hour before they finally brought our kebabs, and they were served cold! What frustrated us even more was seeing other customers who came after us getting their orders well before ours. When we tried to discuss this with the staff, we were met with a dismissive attitude. And the payment process was just as frustrating. Although everyone wanted to pay separately for what they had consumed, they handed us a single bill. When we asked them to split the bill, they responded with an unhelpful and chilly demeanor, saying it couldn't be done. This was my first time dining at this restaurant, and I can confidently say it will be my last. If you want to avoid a disappointing experience and unpleasant interactions with the waitstaff, I strongly recommend considering other...
