I was regular at their old location for their tasty k-bunsik which reminded me of food from back home. I was so excited when they finally opened up their new location after closing down their old one. However, it seemed like they were not quite ready to open yet despite being delayed from their initial plan to open in May. I used their online website to order for pick up. I was informed that my order would be ready in 15min but when I got there in 15min, I had to wait another 20minutes+ before I could get my order. On top of that, I was told that they were sold out of vegetable fry which I was so excited to see back on their menu (they stopped selling it at their old location because it was too much work to prep as per the owner at the old location). Instead, they replaced it with 3 pieces of seaweed roll and 3 pieces of fried squid for the same price both of which were disappointing (tasted just like the store bought frozen seaweed roll and squid ring). After 20minutes of waiting, I finally got my order. When I opened my order at home, there were no utensils, there were no perilla leaves in my jalapeno tuna kimbap and there were no fishcakes in my teokbokki eventhough the description of these menus clearly lists these ingredients. Their new $9.99 soondae menu only had 10pieces of soondae. Compared to the older location, I was disappointed that they stopped letting customers upgrade the original kimbap from the combo menu to other kimbap at extra cost, so I had to order all the items separately. Also, the jjolmyun had way less amount of beansprouts and tuna kimbap had way less tuna compared to before. Overall, the food still tasted good but they seem to cheap out on the ingredients whether intentionally or not. I regret trying on the first day they opened as the whole atmosphere there seemed pretty hectic from what I noticed while I was waiting in the store. Only one person was taking the phone order, taking the order and serving for people dining in, and handing over the prepared to-go orders. Everyone in the kitchen seemed to be in a lot of rush also. I hope they reach the same level of service and preparedness as their old...
Read moreKnow about this place for a long time and have been following them from the old location to this new one. We keep coming back because how good the food is, even recommending this place to our friends. Today we bought $40 worth of food and were told we’re not allowed to eat in the store because we ordered “takeouts” when the person didnt even ask us if we wanted to dine in or takeouts. I think this all started because we didnt leave the tip so the female server just assumed we wanted takeouts. Tipping is not tax and should not be forced or imposed on customers. I will tip if I like the service but we werent even served by anyone yet. To add, the restaurant was so empty at 7:30 pm and we were so excited for the food so we wanted to take pictures and take a few bites while the food was still hot before we leave the place. However, the cashier managed to come over and give us attitudes then asked us why we are eating in the store when we “ordered” takeouts, my friend told her she did not ask us if we wanted to dine in when we were ordering. The cashier did not respond to that and just started to pack our food back in the plastic bag to make us leave. This feels as ridiculous as like Im ordering a cup of Starbucks but not allowed to sit in the store to have my drink because it’s in a to-go cup. Im sorry but no matter how good the food is, if you dont care about your customers and all you care about is the tipping, the business will go...
Read moreGimbap, also romanized as kimbap, is a Korean dish made from cooked rice, vegetables, fish, and meat rolled in gim—dried sheets of seaweed—and served in bite-sized slices.
Ambiance - Quaint take-out spot for bite-sized Korean snacks, call it a street fare if you will.
Food: Minimalist menu including gimbap, dumplings (mandu) and a variety of Korean street snacks. But come here for the gimbap - made fresh to order.
Delicious gimbap to eat with your hands or chopsticks, we got the bulgogi beef and the tuna.
The tuna was really delicious, flaky and lots of mayo, good balance of flavors between the freshness of the veggies, the chew of the rice and the sauce they used helped blend the flavors well together. (⅘)
The bulgogi was lacking a bit of flavor, a little bland to taste so not my favorite. I think they should season this one a bit more with either a sauce or something to give it some more zest.
Service: Order at the counter, wait for your food and leave- this is a walk in walk out type of spot, not a dine in restaurant
Parking: Ample parking in this plaza, a nice hidden gem in Richmond Hill for something quick and easy that isn’t dirty.
They have some katsu’s on their menu as well but we usually come here for the snacks.. We haven’t tried their katsu combos but we will eventually.
Overall good experience. Can’t go wrong with some authentic ajumas making some good home-made korean...
