Good Fortune Bar — Restaurant in Toronto

I used to make this a regular Friday or Saturday spot. Drink selection was good, food was good and the atmosphere was enjoyable..

Loved the spot until these unprofessional staff members and bartenders ruined it for us.

Two incidents from two different staff members on the same night.

The menu showed a beer listed at $7.. we were charged $9. Who cares about $2 but I believe in paying for what I asked for and if what I asked for was listed at $7, don’t charge me $9. Anyway, we brought this up with the server and rather than it be a simple, ‘let me fix it for you’ it became a huge issue and ultimately she came to us after 10 minutes saying ‘we gave you xxxxx and that cost $9’. I don’t care what you gave me, that’s your mistake.. and we were being very kind and professional about it but she made it seem like it was our fault. Finally she said, ‘as an apology, we’ll take care of it this time’. Immediate lose of tip.. don’t care how often I come here and how much I love it, I won’t be treated like that.

They left the machine with us to pay and for some reason disappeared. Well we had separate bills and having a table with some people who work with these machines, we picked it up to get the charges moving. The bartender comes out of nowhere after 10 minutes of absence and rudely says ‘YOU CANT DO THAT’ and yanks it from my friends hands. And then proceeds to just enter the amount on the bill, hit backspace, and do it again to make it seem like he was cracking a secret code on this debit machine.

This place tends to be empty but now I know why.. they’re staff don’t know how to be professional or kind. This place is lucky to be part of la carnita and sweet Jesus.. otherwise they wouldn’t survive with that kind of service.

Good Fortune Eglinton has quickly become my Top 3 Places To AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. Yes, given the pandemic, it's understandable that we're all quite concerned about contracting irritating viruses and possibly wary about where we choose to go now that places are opening up to the masses. I'm here to adamantly recommend AGAINST going to this spot. Not only was it the worst late night bar experience that I've EVER had but its ambience, which their website boasted would make you feel like "you're in a Miami beach clubhouse" falls laughably short. Trust me, I've been to Miami and you will NOT feel as if you're there.

False advertising aside, I'm upset because a "gentleman" came up to our group and quite randomly stated that he was "curious as to where we came from." As confusing (and disconcerting) as this comment was to a group of Torontonians who are not Caucasian, it was made worse by him repeating it to a friend who attempted to politely answer his rather impolite question. Intentionally making your customers feel uncomfortable enough to ask if they should leave and then happily answering "yes" is NOT my idea of good business practice. Regardless of whether we were late for our reservation, or if we were ordering "mocktails" - paying full price for non-alcoholic drinks - or if you simply just didn't like us, the next time you want to ask a group of people a loaded question about being "curious" about where they came, don't. Otherwise we may correctly assume that your establishment, to put it mildly, isn't worth the visit because of certain individuals...

Would give this place a zero if I could, avoid at all costs. Myriad of issues.. I am surprised how highly rated this place is. First issue, instagram vs reality. The place looks nothing like the pictures and the atmosphere is terrible, just feels like you're in an old outdated basement bar. Second issue, nobody came to seat us for five minutes. Third issue, no menus after seating us, we had to get our own menus from another table. Fourth issue, we waited ten min and nobody came to take our order so I got up and ordered at the bar. They finally brought us some water after I ordered. Fifth issue, the drinks took about 25 minutes to come.. The place was only 60% full, severely understaffed on a Friday night, very odd. Sixth issue, drinks were terrible, we had the black flag and corpse reviver and both were horrible vs other cocktail bars. Seventh issue, the water glasses were cracked and fairly sharp and we had to get new ones. Last issue, they didn't even bother to ask if any problems or how our experience was after we...
