I ordered macarons from The Social Blend because of all the good reviews I’ve heard and read about them. However, I am highly disappointed at how the delivery driver dealt with the delivery situation today.

I was unfortunately unable to pick up the phone when the driver called to meet downstairs, and I attended to another phone call that I received from another employee at The Social Blend. I was told that he would reach out to the delivery driver for him to coordinate the pick up. So I was waiting for the phone call (as I thought the delivery driver might have gone somewhere else to do another delivery), only to receive a very rude phone call from the driver that he’s been waiting and why I was not coming down to pick up. I explained and wanted to clarify the conversation that I had with the other employee, however, this delivery driver didn’t care enough to even let me finish my sentence and was highly dismissive. When I went down to pick up, I tried to explain to him again as to why I didn’t come down and the communication I had with another employee, but he was clearly not listening to me. While not even looking at me, with frustrated sighs, he basically handed me the macaron box very carelessly, rolled his eyes and left when I was STILL speaking to him.

I understand that it is my fault for not picking up the phone in a timely manner when I was expecting a delivery, and also for the miscommunication I had with the other employee at the cafe. However, the attitude and unprofessional demeanour was unnecessary and highly disappointing, as I was not expecting this type of customer service from a cafe with great reviews.

This was the worst delivery experience ever, and I am very taken back by the treatment I received today.

Edit: One of the owners of the cafe, Tom, reached out to me personally. He handled the situation professionally and beyond expectations. Other than the driver experience, the macarons and dacquoise were both very delicious and enjoyable. I can see why the reviews are so great. Macarons - Their signature nine macarons include Matcha KitKat, Strawberry Crunch, Tiramisu, Blueberry Cheesecake, Earl Grey, Double Raspberry, Oreo, Injeolmi, and Milk Chocolate. They also come up with monthly/seasonal flavors currently including Cherry, Pineapple Coconut, Mango Passionfruit, and Chocolate Hazelnut in July 2020. They also have a summer Fruit Fiesta box of 9 fruit flavored macarons topped with candied/ dried fruits (July 23rd - July 31st).

Their macaron fillings are airy and lightly sweet which is great because of how fat they are. My favorite is the matcha and tiramisu both are excellently done with very intense flavors. I personally don’t like fruity flavors but if you do, try them all. Their fruit flavors are by far the strongest tastes notably their raspberry and their mango passionfruit.

Dacquoise - They recently introduced their dacquoise line which is their take on the French cake made with almond meringue biscuits and their macaron filling. They currently only have 6 flavors including Raspberry, Blueberry Cheesecake, Strawberry Crunch, Coffee, Matcha, and Earl Grey. You can try all 6 ($29) or 3 ($15) at a time as part of the “fruit” or “drink” set.

I’m very happy with these new dacquoise they have this cakey texture and crumbles in your mouth which is very satisfying. I tried the drink set and the matcha again took the show it was a perfect pairing with a nice hot coffee.

Service - I think I would give them a perfect score just by their product alone, but I’ve had multiple great interactions with the staff as well. Every time I’ve been it was during the pandemic so little to no other customers around. However, the staff was very nice and happy to provide recommendations. My first visit I wanted a coffee but had trouble picking something. So, the barista made me something custom based on my preferences and continued to have a 10-minute conversation with me afterwards. So the delivery is fast, ordered on Thursday got on Saturday at around 1pm. The driver left my package at the front of my apartment building, not infront of my apartment door but IN FRONT OF THE APARTMENT BUILDING ENTRY WAY THAT LITERALLY ANYONE CAN JUST WALK INTO. It was frustrating cause anyone could have taken it. Unsure why he left it ther he had buzz code and everything and he didn't even bother to use it. Now I got a 10 macarons and 3 dacquoise pack. I was super excited they are very attractive looking and very tasty looking. I bit into one a noticed a extreme lack of flavor. I just thought it was just maybe that one. So I drank some water and the next also lacked flavor. Now I know it says it's less sweet than traditional but these were not sweet at all or had any flavor to them. If I didn't order them myself I would not have known what any of the flavors were cause the all basically tasted the same(unless they were coated in something like oreo or freeze dried strawberry those had flavor because of that). Seriously I had to check back a few times to make sure it wasn't called the social Bland! The buttercream inside is too much, though it is very attractive and photogenic its just not practical for eating as it spills all out the sides, and plus they give so much of something that taste like water :/.
