If you want the taste of fresh fish, go somewhere else. Hina serves frozen and tasteless fish for their nigiri. The tuna tasted like water, pretty sure the fish wasn't even properly thawed. The sushi rice cannot be called sushi rice because it was mushy, overcooked, and not seasoned. Good fish has a taste on its own and their fish taste like nothing--easy to tell it is not fresh.

When the server came and asked how the food was, I reported the fish wasn't fresh. I continued to eat because I was very hungry and didn't want to send it back. After five minutes, while I was still eating, the server came and took my plate away WHILE I was in the middle of chewing, told me "if it's not fresh you don't eat, we remove and give you cheque," and basically made us feel unwelcomed for giving feedback. She removed the dish from the bill but was clearly very upset and stood there waiting for us to pay and leave. I would've given one star for the food and attitude, but the younger server was still polite to us and seemed more receptive to feedback.

If you know what good sushi taste like, don't go here. The tuna is a colour you'd never see at proper sushi places. This isn't a...

My wife and I visited Hi Na last night for the first time. We live at High Park and Bloor, but pass through this neighborhood occasionally for Costco, ikea and the cineplex movie theatre. We have occasionally eaten in a few places in this neighborhood, but we don't think of the area as a restaurant destination. Last night we had a post-movie sushi craving, and dropped in to Hi Na on a whim. Were we surprised. The restaurant is lovely. Very simple and unpretentious atmosphere (eg a tv screen over the bar), but otherwise charming. The TV screen is fine. The staff were great, really delightfully mannered but not obsequious, simple gentle, happy, relaxed and friendly. And the food was really, really good. It's not the highest end Japanese cuisine we've had (the prices are not in that bracket either) but for this type of mid range mid price restaurant the food was way, way above average. Delicate and artful. If you are looking for a better than average sushi place anywhere in Toronto, this is a great choice. For this neighborhood I'd say HI Na is a true star. Just go, it's...

SO and I were hungry and craving teriyaki and decided to try this restaurant on a whim. Wow is all I can say. We both were greeted, seated and being that it was our first Time, the waitress was kind enough to answer any questions we had and make recommendations. Really kind couple/owners. And my goodness, the food is sooooo tasty!!!. Since our first visit in July 2019, I can easily say we have visited a minimum of 15 times. Great ambience and music, tasty food, and excellent service. My SO is absolutely stuck on their beef teriyaki, it's the only thing he orders!!!! I've tried various items on their menu & I'm never disappointed!!!! You can taste they take pride in their product, they do not cheap or skimp out when it comes to the quality and value of their food. It might sound far fetched, but Whenever we eat there, it feels Like we are in Japan!!! We have tried other Japanese joints and no matter what, we always end up back at Hina! We both love to support mom and pop establishments. And honestly, as long as they keep doing what they're doing, we will keep...

Hina Sushi is amazing. I've visited about once a month since January and it's been consistently good. Miso soup and salad have the perfect amount of salt and acidity, respectively, for my tastes, and the sushi is delicious. I usually order the black dragon roll, but have also tried the nigiri which is great as well. When ordering the Matsu Sushi set, I was able to substitute green dragon roll for black dragon roll for an additional charge which is nice. Have also ordered one of the lunch specials for takeout once and can confirm that it's still consistent quality to the dine-in experience (just without the tea). Owners are nice as well, and overall, it's my go-to place in the area.
