Hong Kong Gardens — Restaurant in Toronto

Very disappointed to write this review! We have been ordering from Hong Kong Garden (with more regularity than I’d like to admit) since 2019, when our regular place closed for renovations and never re-opened.

Tonight we ordered again. Picked up the order and returned home (30 minute round trip). Missing from the order were the three egg rolls to be included with the combo plates. The missing egg rolls are not the problem, it was the way they chose to deal with it. This is the second time an item was missing. The first time was all of the chicken balls from our Christmas Eve 2020 order. For that, I returned to the store a day or so later, as I was told they were to busy to deliver the missing item.

I called to let them know the egg rolls were missing. I would have been more than happy to just get the three egg rolls with our next order, but nope. I was told he would need to check with the kitchen. He came back and told me I didn’t order egg rolls. I said the egg rolls are included with the three combos plate. Yes, that’s true, let me check. No, the kitchen says they put them in the bag.

Of course the kitchen is going to say they put them in the bag. I explained that order totalled $80ish dollars, why would I call to pretend we didn’t receive three egg rolls worth what, less than $5? It just didn’t make sense. He said he didn’t know what to tell me, the kitchen said they put them in. So I’m lying to you about egg rolls? No answer. Placed an order over the phone for a dinner party of 6 on Saturday, October 14th for $90.00. We order chicken balls and did not receive chicken ball but boney sweet and sour chicken. We also ordered mixed vegetables with cashews. There were no cashews in the mixed vegetables. When we arrived home I called to let them know our order was not correct. The person on the other end of the phone indicated they were too busy and could Not deliver the correct replacement to me. However, they indicated I could receive a credit towards my next order. I am Extremely disappointed! We had a dinner party with guests and had terrible food. I have been a loyal Customer for years but have decided to find about her Chinese restaurant. What has happened to this restaurant and service. I used to love their food and now it is terrible. We spent $9.95 for mixed veggies with mixed cashew and there was no cashew. We also spent $9.95 for sweet and sour chicken balls and we received sweet and sour chicken pieces with bone - no chicken balls. When I called they were aware that they mixed up our order but indicated we would receive a credit on our next order. They were too busy to deliver the correct items that we had ordered. We had a dinner party with guests and were not able to leave them Again to pick up the correct items. No apology was made. Extremely disappointed. This place is disgusting! Let me tell you I ordered 3 combos today. Received complete bad attitude from the women who took my order. She had long braided grey hair with no net on her hair… No personality what so ever. I took the food home and after opening up one of the meals, my daughter was presented with 3 strands of hair in her food . I called the establishment and was told the manager would call me back immediately. I was contacted by the “manager” and after telling her about my daughters finding in the food, there was no apology, and the “ manager” rather then apologize she said “ oh no you are wrong, no one here has long hair”. I was shocked as she didn’t even apologize. I then let her know that I was calling to let her know as they should ensure safety standards are met when dealing with food. Only after I let her have it she then apologized saying her English is not good, what a cop out when you are in the wrong. Furthermore the food is really bad! Do yourself a favour and do not EAT there! A complete disgust and poor management skills ! Oh and once she was done she said she will have Adi the manager call.
