We came all the way from the Dominican Republic to experience Momiji Sushi in Toronto, and it was absolutely worth it. From the moment we arrived, the welcoming atmosphere, the elegant décor, and the soft music set the tone for a truly special evening. The freshness and quality of the fish is on another level – every piece of sushi and sashimi was simply outstanding. You can taste the care and dedication of the chefs in every bite, not only in flavor but also in the meticulous presentation. Their passion for their craft shines through, making this more than just a meal – it’s a culinary experience. The staff’s attention and service were exceptional. Friendly, professional, and always ready with great recommendations, they made us feel right at home. Combined with the relaxing ambiance, it created the perfect setting to enjoy this outstanding Japanese cuisine. Traveling from another country, our expectations were high, and Momiji far exceeded them. This restaurant is a true gem in Toronto, and we are so glad we made the trip to enjoy it. Highly recommended for anyone looking for the best sushi experience in Canada!

I review a lot of Japanese restaurants both here in Canada and also the UK, as well as having eaten at restaurants in Kyoto and Tokyo. My second visit here wasn’t the best. The appetizers are overpriced and portions are meagre. We ordered the chicken - don’t order this. Tiny portion size. The sushi is well made (maki and other rolls) but tuna isn’t necessarily the best quality. The salmon was good and actually quite a decent amount in each roll, which was surprising. The miso soup is sub-par and is missing taste and any extra additions such as tofu. Minimal amount of seaweed and the dashi isn’t that flavourful, neither is the miso which is poor quality. We went in on a Monday evening and the service was terrible. Note to restaurant: please allow customers to choose a custom tip amount. Forcing customers to start at an 18% tip and forcing them to ask the server to lower the amount is demeaning and not equitable to the customer and also the server. Please train your staff properly, improve your “Japanese” food, serving sizes, and also take away the demeaning tip options. Will not be going back!

Stupid prices for what's ultimately just a fresh, upscale presentation of American-style sushi. But they do a very solid job. The fish is very fresh — including lower-volume options like hamachi, which often suffer. The rice is fresh, though half-heartedly seasoned. The rice ratio is good, but end cuts are inconsistent, see attached photo. The regular tuna roll is flawless: the roll is filled to the end, with the protruding tuna trimmed for use in spicy rolls. But the rolls with chopped filling (hamachi, spicy tuna, spicy scallop) are stingy like you'd expect at restaurants at half the price point. Spicy scallop and tuna rolls are made in an unusual style. Usually good places make spicy rolls with chunks of fish and fresh, crispy Tempura bits and cheap places use a pre-mix of soggy spicy tempura filler with negligible fish. Momiji uses a pretty fair quantity of protein but still uses a soggy pre-mix. An unfortunate choice, but not one that seems particularly malicious.

This was my go-to spot for sushi since I moved to the area. However, our last visit was a terrible experience. We were seated at an unlit table under the TV showing CP24. We had no menu for the longest time. The staff kept ignoring us. Considering our table was next to the cashier, this is unacceptable. I kept reminding about the lack of lighting at our table. The restaurant was empty at the time too. Only 2 other tables were occupied.

The QR Menu now goes to an Italian restaurant after redirecting to a "knockoff" Momiji website looking like a Spam link. I've been here many times, so I know what the QR menu looks like. The manager said he knew about the situation but yet the QR menu is still on the table. And a normal menu was not placed on the table when we were seated.

We ended up leaving and went to Kinton Ramen where the service was good as usual. Not as good as the usual Momiji service, but I think on this occasion McDonald's would have been better service. When we left, the shift manager followed us to the parking lot to our car begging us to come back. It was rather uncomfortable at this point. Especially for my 6 & 8 year old kids. They didn't understand why we had to leave without eating and why the gentleman followed us to the car.

I think it's under new ownership or management as this was a 180 from our usual service. The last time I went was just a few weeks before this visit and the service was great as usual. Now we have to find a new sushi place...

While meeting for dinner the Bloor location was an option based on convenience and my friend hearing positive remarks on this spot for sushi.

After hearing of the restaurant I referred to TripAdvisor and from the reviews it seemed that we were in for a treat.

Being a world traveler I've enjoyed sushi in many countries and consider myself a sushi snob as I have great respect for the this art.

I ordered the edamame, soft shelled crab, seaweed salad, sushi pizza along with spicy tuna and dynamite rolls.

The edamame arrived and it was good, coming in a very generous portion.

Next the soft shelled crab, which has been one of my favorite Japanese dishes being lightly fried in tempura.

The crab came encased in what looked as a double fried batter prison. Upon tasting there was no essence of crab only batter, zero taste and I regrettably sent the crab back.

I never received the seaweed salad and this dawned on me while writing the review. I'm not 100 percent certain if it was charged to my bill because I only have the credit card copy of the receipt.

As for the sushi and the pizza I was not impressed and was dissatisfied in the favor, taste and freshness.

During previous sushi experiences I've had the opportunity to literally moan when chop sticking a spicy tuna roll into my mouth but these pucks of fish were literally that!

So my suggestion is to avoid this place and if you have a tried, tested and true sushi joint,...

We have been going to this resteraunt since it has opened . It has been my favourite quality and service wise for many years but have to say since Tony , the manager that opened the place, has left , the service standards has gone down quite a bit. . It is a tradition that we always go there for our birthdays and yesterday when I took my daughter there for lunch I was extremely disappointed .The quality of the food is still one of the best but the service was way below its usual standards . The staff did not once come to refill our water or green tea. Did not come to see if we wanted anything else and I actually had to wave the waiter down for our bill . No interaction, smiles or friendliness . This is what made this resteraunt so special from the beginning the friendliness of the staff , feeling part of the community and looking forward to special events they would have occasionally wich does not exist any more . I wanted to speak to the manager but was told she was in Korea and nothing more asked . I used to recommend this resteraunt to everyone but now I will have second thoughts . I have to say the service is much better at Sushi to Go , just across the street .I am sorry to write this type of review to once my very favourite resteraunt in Toronto. The sushi chefs are excellent and still use the freshest and best quality fish . Please...
