Came here a few hours ago around 9 pm. We ordered the original, soy garlic, and sweet and spicy chicken, as well as a large garlic butter fries. The server said it would take about 15-20 minutes so we walked around and when we came back, we provided our order number, but the order was not ready as they forgot about our order. I understand they were busy with online orders and whatnot, but we had to wait an extra 15-20 minutes. The girl at the front told them to hurry up with our order and apologized. They told us that they gave us some dumplings due to the delay. We got home around 10:55 pm and we noticed that we were missing the large fries… It was literally 11pm and they were closed then. We did not want to head back, so I gave them a call letting them know that we were just there and they forgot our large fries. The girl on the phone did not apologize, but sounded confused. She said that we could come back to grab it, however we told her we just got home and it’s inconvenient for us. We asked if we could come back next time to get it and she said to come back tomorrow. We get our chicken today, yet we’ll have to get our fries tomorrow? We had to literally wait for about an hour for our order as they forgot about our order and they actually forgot the sides on top of that. We don’t even want to go back tomorrow for our fries. It’s out of our way and we were just frustrated as our time was and is being wasted. Even when we informed them on the phone, she did not seem to care, but told us to come back tomorrow. I would much prefer a refund for the large fries at this point instead of actually picking up the fries. How inconvenient.
Other than that, the chicken was good. Tastes like generic Korean chicken. Dumplings were pretty good. Service was subpar, hence why I gave this place 3 stars. I don’t think we will come back after all the trouble we had to experience.
Update: Hi JJ Fried Chicken, Thanks for the prompt response. I appreciate that you are willing to provide a refund. Would it be possible if you could provide the email in which I could Google Message you...
Read moreThis place is AMAZING! It opens late 4pm to 11 pm, Wednesday is closed.
I got some chicken bits, good sized, the "small" order got me totally satisfied and full, I imagine the large order is for two people. Maybe not two quiet like me. The plate looked like a small mountain of chicken, and since it was boneless, the whole thing will be eaten, leaving only a clean plate. You could order the sauce in the side of you want to taste the chicken by itself, or dip a piece now and then.
The chicken pieces I ordered were boneless, bone-in is also available. There are around 10 types of sauces, I tried "spicy hot" and "sweet and sour" (yep, I tried another order of small boneless chicken despite being totally full, now I can not even breath, but they were soooooo freaking worthy)
The meat was tender and juicy, well cooked and it has a subtle crispy coating, not like KFC or POPEYE'S which is a real thick crust. No, at JJ fried chicken is not that big, almost unnoticeable but once you bite into it sounds and taste so good.
It was Saturday night, I was the only dine-in guy in the entire place but lots of take-out orders. When I was leaving there was a couple coming in.
It has a outer space theme, the lamps are planets, space decals on the walls, and peppered with small astronauts with láser beams and nebulous projectors from their helmet. I liked the "stars" on the ceiling and walls. The place is clean, organized and inviting. Not fancy but intriguing, the food, the food is just addictive. Each order cost is around $20 and I was already budgeting to see how often I could come. They also have a projector to the wall and a Korean Netflix comedy serie was playing, which I enjoyed very much.
From outside it doesn't look much, I even thought it was closed or about to be inaugurated but it is already open to the public since some time ago. It's licensed so you can order beer or soju.
Parking is on the streets.
Staff is friendly and courteous. Please...
Read moreI ordered the half sweet & spicy, half fried chicken because the reviews looked promising — and overall, I’d say it lived up to the hype in some ways. The packaging was great, and as soon as I opened it, I got that nostalgic old-school Korean fried chicken smell, which I really appreciated.
However, both the fried and sweet & spicy flavors were a bit too mild for my taste. If you’re expecting the bold, sweet-heat flavor of Korean yangnyeom chicken, I’d recommend going for the spicy version instead. I’ll definitely try that next time.
One big disappointment for me was the pickled radish (chicken-mu). I usually love it, but this one really missed the mark — the flavor just wasn’t there. I think the recipe needs some serious rework.
That said, the chicken itself was generous in portion and very reasonably priced. Compared to many overpriced and underwhelming Korean chicken franchises in Toronto, JJ Chicken definitely holds its own. I hope places like this thrive — they offer great value, and their success might make those big-name franchises rethink what...
