If you love fish and have high standards for food this is the place for you. I highly recommend you to try the breaded haddock. Outside there’s a thin and crispy crust seasoned probably with angels’ tears, because that came straight from heaven. Inside a juicy and delicious haddock fish. You totally should try with fries! If you order Greek rice (wich is a fantastic idea) ask for dressing on top. Mama Mia, that’s good! And don’t even think about skipping the Greek salad! Delightful! There are other options as well, like halibut fish which I recommend you to have battered. The batter outside, crispy and fluffy at the same time, keeps the Fish deliciously juicy. But if you’re a fancy person, and I bet you’re, you’re gonna try the scallops. I don’t know how to describe them, because it’s more about feeling than logic. I have two words for them: heaven’s bite. If you don’t try it, we can’t be friends. After all this description you must be thinking: this must be really expensive! But this is not! For less than 20 bucks you’ll receive a massive plate full of fries, Greek salad and a huge piece of the best fish you’ve ever had, or some scallops or some calamari or some chicken fingers... and you can ask for a home made iced tea (amazing), a Caesar (delightful) or even wine! And please don’t forget to ask for tzatziki: a Greek sauce made by a real Greek mama. You’ll probably gonna cry. Ohhh, for dessert (this is not a place for skipping deserts) ask for baklava. I will not explain it in order not to ruin the surprise! Well, after all this: great food, great dessert and amazing prices you must be thinking: it’s impossible to get better, but it can. The best part of John’s Fish ‘n’ Chips is the people who work there. Maria and her husband, Bill (the owners) are amazing people. You’ll leave the place better than you arrived. Huge smiles, laugher and a warm reception. Don’t be afraid to let Maria guide you through the menu because Bill (the chef) will not disappoint you. And a plus: the place is really clean. Believe me, I’m from Brazil and we are cleaning freaks. No doubt this is the cleanest restaurant I have ever...
Read moreWent here, starving after a scuba diving lesson. Envisioned crispy fries and golden fish. The place was empty on Sat evening at seven. I didn't follow my gut instinct to walk back out. On recommendation by the woman at the counter (will call her wife) I ordered grilled halibut? haddock?, Greek salad and tartar sauce. - for a nickle short of $20. Wife gave the correct order to the fellow in back (will call him husband). She brought the take out order outside to the bench in front. where I was sitting, thank you. I went to car - found coleslaw, no Greek. Went back and got the Greek salad. While there, I confirmed - was tartar sauce inside? She asked - yes was the response. Went out, was so starving - to find soggy fries and a ragged piece of fish. And no utensils!! I was too pissed off to go back again. Drove home 25 minutes, got out my utensils - and no tartar sauce!!!
If wife takes the order, can't she quality check?? (she blamed husband for carelessness). I didn't pay 20 bucks to do their job. Husband in the back looked like he had stepped inside from the street and was asked to take over the kitchen for a minute. The food prep was right in line with that perception.
Food was absolutely meh, tasteless soggy fries (right from the restaurant door - I sampled a few while in the parking lot)) and boring fish, a little unsqueezable square of lemon, could not even wrap it around the tines of my fork. Had I paid five or six bucks, I would not be writing this.
My local pizza place has hot delicious veggie pizza slices for $2.60, taxes in, and there is always a line, day or night. Guess where I'll go next time!

Sorry that's not my concern If this review disturbed you, and giving out the pricing you pay for your supplier means little to the customer. I don't believe the portions are as big as you claim. The octopus for $32 is unbelievably tiny and you overpay for what you get absolutely. Also the truffle fries have a little to no seasoning at all. Not flavorful and very dry. Telling me the price you pay once again means absolutely nothing to the customer and the value that the customer gets.
Tula was in my grade 2 Mrs. Barefoot class at Islington public school. Why on earth would I call you to tell you that I did not enjoy what I had and the value was not worth it? I used to come here when I was a kid almost every week at one point.... to be quite frank, I don't really care what your system shows you. I have ordered from your establishment at least four times using Uber in the past five or six years, and I have come by once or twice for pick up.
I've been coming to this place ever since I was a kid. In fact, one of the daughters of the owner used to be in my grade school class. It really pains me to write this, but this place is not Of good value based on what you actually get. Delicious halibut and delicious batter… but very small portions and the fries are dry. On Uber eats I paid $16 for dry truffle fries with very little flavoring… And $32 for a half of a serving portion of octopus for any Greek taverna. Not worth the price. All in all the experience at this place charges you too much. Not...
