Myself and 4 friends (all mid 20s in age) had dinner at Jules. Reservation was for 7:45 - we arrived at 7:40 and I kid you not, we did not have a waiter/waitress attend to us till 8:04. We were definitely the youngest group in the restaurant and I feel like the staff just prioritized us last. We were the very 1st table in the restaurant in the kitchen, so staff were constantly passing us without bothering to take our orders for food/drinks.
When the waiter FINALLY decided to attend to us, there was no "hello, my name is...have you been here before...etc." The waiter just said "hi, i can take your order now." Clearly not trying to give us any level of service at all. Drinks came - not good. My La Madinia was just pineapple juice with no alcohol and the 2 peach prosseco's were not good either.
Majority of the table ordered the Steak Frites. I had the Thon Grille (tuna). The tuna was cooked WAY past well done - extremely dry and tough. Steaks were mediocre too. That being said, every waiter was bringing out this steak or lamb platter, which we later realized was part of the deluxe menu special. Of course, our waiter didn't bother to explain any of this. Those platters looked 10x better than whatever nonsense we were given and we all left wishing we had gotten those instead.
Halfway through our entrees, I honestly had to look around because I felt like I was missing something. This restaurant has decent ratings (4.3 google stars), and the resto was a full house; meaning it is popular. But if people were served the food we got, there is no way people would return. But like I said, looking around, everyone had these platters and wine/beer. So maybe ordering off the regular menu was our mistake and cocktails are a no-no for Jules.
Overall the restaurant is cute and looks nice. But there is no way the service/food we received was up to par. I say this based on what was mentioned previously about the full house and ratings. Maybe due to the crowd that night, we ended up receiving the raw end of the deal. Either way, not acceptable. I hope Jules Bistro sees this and improves from it. To be honest I feel like i would maybe return to have a second experience because I feel like what my friends and I received is not representative of Jules Bistro on a normal day - but...
Read moreStumbled upon this place on a quest to crush my Friday evening hunger. Going on a 6hr famine and feeling nutritionally deprived, almost delirious one could say. I was pushing my chariot down the queens way when the front fascia and the kitchen by the window struck the corner of my eye. "This place looks interesting!" Said thy stomach to thy brain and my hand quickly took over and a u-turn was made. My date, my partner in crime (sitting in the shot gun seat) scared for her dear life as I made a safe and cautious driving maneuver to get my chariot to its parking stable. The chariot now parked, place in sight, my date... trying to catch her breath and questioning lifes decisions on a Friday night, I lawfully walked j-walked to jules. We walk in, the kitchen to our right. Lights shining off of the stainless appliances, the crackles and pops of the hard working chefs. Trying to catch a peak of what is cooking when I got punched In the face by the wonderful aromas and smells this honey pot of heaven was cooking up. We proceed ahead to the dining area to get greated by super friendly staff who showed us the way to our lovely table. Surrounded by first time daters and juicy conversation me and my date looked at eachother and smiled as this place just felt right. The decor is nice, a bit dark but not enough to require nvg's, the daily communications on the wall for specials and delights that can entertain your t-buds at that evening moment and time. The app, my true love for this place. The oceanic monstrous child of the sea, it was delicious it was right, it was... words cannot give true meaning to the love I have for this app. It looks great smells great and it tasted even better. I was debating on getting a second just because, but then I needed to have space for the main and desert. My main was the steak and fries, the steak was small but a great piece of meat that was cooked and seasoned to my style, half still kicking half cooked in fatty succulent juices. Delicious. My beautiful date had the salmon which was just a beautiful piece of fish cooked perfectly and it felt like a shame to chew on it. If you are still reading about my experience and you have lasted this long I hope you are intrigued to enough to...
Read moreUpdate: The place is trash, we’ve gone several times since our review. The older man on the waitstaff/manager will gaslight guests into ignoring a rowdy big group table (cause that table will bring him more $$$ than yours), with their volume ruining everyone’s dinner service as we all look at each other across the room at how absurd it is. Saw the other persons review about him pestering them about the 15% tip. Never coming to this location again. Go to the Queen W one and let this location die off.
Old: We went there for dinner on Friday night shortly after they opened for service - being the first few tables. We ordered our food and drinks relatively quickly cause we knew we had a show to catch.
However, we had an issue with our crème brûlée dessert. I assume we ordered dessert earlier than the kitchen team expected and they weren’t done cooking the crème brûlée but our order was accepted anyway. The ramekin may have been pulled too early from the water bath. We broke through the torched sugar to find the custard has not set and was still liquified. Flagged to the service staff who apologized and brought it back to the kitchen, only for them to blast heat/nuke it + torch fresh sugar and bring back to us. Still charged us the full $10 price for the dessert and we paid, didn’t make a fuss.
My standard for this well loved and usually attentive place is to either inform the patron the dessert is not quite ready and offer an alternative suggestion OR provide a completely different dessert once the undercooked crème brûlée was sent back. For the kitchen team, that should be the high level standard they hold themselves to and to the brand. If the item is not ready, it’s not ready! No need to rush it, just let the patron know and we can order an alternative - no problem at all! Never compromise the integrity of the product - that goes for anything.
