Jumbo Burger was opened in 1972 and is a bona fide Junction institution. Opened in 1972, it unapologetically serves up old school burger joint fare at reasonable prices and with consistent quality. To be clear, if you’re looking for a trendy, high-end burger, gourmet fries or fusion approaches to souvlaki and gyros you’d best look elsewhere (NB: they only accept cash - no debit or credit cards - so be sure to have some on hand when you visit. If you don’t there is a third party ATM on-site, which we had to use).
What you will find are pretty darn good burgers cooked on a gas grill, served up on a soft bun that holds up well to the ingredients. These burgers are not made with freshly ground sirloin. These ground beef burgers with some (but not too much) filler and are cooked to well done (don’t ask for medium rare) but are still tasty and juicy. Like most old-school burger shacks, when your burger comes of the grill you’re called up to the counter to select your toppings. Their bacon is grilled and super tasty, so unless you’re one of those rare people who don’t like bacon on your burger we highly recommend that you go with that. The veggies are fresh and tasty so you really can’t go wrong with the selection. The cheese is good old fashioned processed slices, so if you’re a purist you’ll not be thrilled. Then again, if you’re a purist you’re in the wrong place from the get go, so there’s that.
We ordered the onion rings because they are a straight up comfort food/fond childhood memory for one of us - and they’re as good as ever. These are not super thin, super crispy onion rings. These have a fluffy batter surrounding generous rings of sweet onion. In spite of the soft fluffy batter these onion rings can’t be described as greasy. They have just the right amount of oil to flavour the batter, though, and a light sprinkle of salt brightens them up perfectly.
We also ordered the halibut fish and chips. The thick cut fries were perfectly cooked - nice and piping hot with not a hint of greasy-ness (we snuck some as we were walking back to the car!). We can’t wait for indoor dining to resume because these fries would be killer devoured fresh at the table.
The fish was the only (slight) disappointment of our meal. It was coated in a nicely done, crispy batter, but the halibut itself was almost paper thin. What was there was tasty, and for under $15 it’s likely all one can ask for, but in the future we’ll save our pennies and order a more expensive, more substantial battered halibut somewhere to satisfy our fish craving.
All in all, we can definitely recommend Jumbo Burger. We’re already planning a return trip for another burger and to try their souvlaki. Oh, and more...
Read moreI was a newcomer to Jumbo Burgers, drawn in by the enthusiastic recommendations of my friends who claimed, "This burger will blow your jaws, bro, it's just phenomenal." Intrigued, I opted for the "Banquet" with a single patty, as the double patty apparently required three bong rips for enough power and courage to conquer its juicy excellence in one go. Not being a seasoned bong enthusiast, I stuck to the single patty, a single bong rip, and it did not disappoint.
A quick note about myself: I am notoriously picky about food, especially when it comes to burgers. Before stumbling upon Jumbo Burgers, I had resigned myself to a burger drought in Toronto. However, fate had other plans, and I'm grateful for that.
Despite a hiccup in my delivery experience with the infamous Uber Delivery, which caused some chaos with orders, the manager at Jumbo Burgers stepped in to resolve the issue promptly. This gesture was particularly appreciated, given that I was a first-time customer.
Now, let's dive into the main event—the burger itself. The patty, despite the obligatory full-frying mandated by Canada's peculiar laws, was a delightful surprise. Somehow, the magicians at Jumbo Burgers managed to retain its juiciness and flavor, making it a standout element of the meal. The bread buns were a refreshing departure from the generic, plastic-like buns found in local stores. They were well-made, offering a perfect balance of puffiness and softness.
However, the real MVPs were the sauces and toppings nestled between those buns. The ordering process was a breeze, and the lineup of free toppings turned my meal from good to downright delicious. The sauces? Straight-up flavor magic, making every bite a tasty revelation.
In conclusion, this burger elevated an already fantastic evening. Opting for a single patty proved to be more than enough to satisfy my inner "high beast" and provide the joy of indulging in something crafted with care, quality, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. Thank you, Jumbo Burgers, for making my dining experience truly delightful. I'll undoubtedly be...
Read moreOk, I've had this joint bookmarked for over a year, and I finally went at 12:30 AM, technically Sunday morning.... . And I am SOOOOO GLAD that I did!
OMG! Just, seriously, omg!
I simply do not understand reviews under 4 stars, and I'm a foodie!
This place beats Burgers Priest, and waaaay beats Apache and C & Dubbs in 'Sauga!
I honestly don't know where to start!
Hmmmmm...... The onion rings are THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD, and I am a connoisseur! They have delicious, crispy crunchy breading, with almost a teeny bit of sweetness.... Made to ORDER...FAB-U-LOUS!!
I hadn't eaten in 21 hours, and I'd been up 9 hours, (wifi issues, rain triggers my migraines... I've had a migraine almost every day since April 1st.... Grrrrrr). Anyway, so I also ordered a double banquet burger... Aka, cheese and bacon!!
OMG.... OMG... OMG!
It's cooked TO ORDER. I want to highlight that, because it is found NOWHERE else in fast food burgers. And I've looked. A lot.... Maybe the Priest..... I can't remember!
The taste of the CHARCOAL GRILL is imprinted on the burger, and it's fantastic... but not too much, you know, so it tastes burnt!
The patties are ENORMOUS..... If I'd realized, and I weren't positively starving, I could never have eaten all of it!
The meat is extremely high quality, no fillers, very well seasoned. Bacon is well cooked, they melt the cheese very nicely too!
Now. This is NOT a cheap place. For a drink, rings and a double burger, it was $19.33 with tax.....BUT....ITS so incredibly awesome, I'll definitely be back!
Given how Kate they're open, and the fact that I'm a nighthawk, I'm afraid I'll be here toooooo often!
I wanna try the Souvlaki and steak, next, I've heard they're amazing...
The owners are both Greek, so obviously, they know how to grill, and make souvlaki!!
Parking is extremely limited, a 5 spolot on the NORTH side of the building.
It's quite small in terms of seating, maybe 20 seats total. And the seats are uncushioned and uncomfortable. BUT I'M GOING BACK.... Y'all hear me???
Goddess of Grammar...
