Solid spot if you're craving tasty Mexican food and a fantastic Spanish-language playlist.
Their carne asada was definitely a highlight – flavorful and cooked just right. The nachos are also a safe bet, a generous portion and satisfyingly good.
I also tried their tacos, and they did not disappoint! Each bite was packed with flavor. I have to give them props for their Thursday special: a bucket of beers and a plate of nachos for under $50! That's a deal you can't easily pass up.
Now, let's talk about the atmosphere. If you're a fan of baladas en español from legends like Camilo Sesto, Roberto Carlos, Emmanuel, and El Buki, then their playlist is absolutely on fire! It really sets a great vibe.
The staff were genuinely nice and friendly, which is always a plus. However, the service when it came to drinks was noticeably slow. Our food arrived promptly, which was great, but we waited a good 20 minutes for a beer. The same thing happened when we ordered shots – a bit of a wait. This was a bit disappointing and something they could definitely improve on.
Despite the slow drink service, I'd still give La Cantina Del Pueblo a solid recommendation. The food is good, the music is fantastic, and the bites are solid. If you're not in a huge rush for your drinks, this place is worth checking out for a fun night with good Mexican flavors and a...
Read moreWhile I typically refrain from writing reviews, unless an experience is exceptionally good or disappointingly bad, unfortunately, my recent visit to this restaurant falls into the latter category. Last Friday evening, four of us dined at this establishment. Despite the restaurant being relatively quiet with only a few occupied tables, our experience left much to be desired.
I must commend the waitress for her politeness, and the seating was indeed comfortable. However, when it came to the food, our expectations were not met. We sampled a variety of dishes, including beef nachos, carnitas tacos, pastor tacos, Alambre Campechano and quesadilla duo.
While the beef nachos were satisfactory, the tacos lacked flavor and seemed devoid of any marination. The Alambre Campechano failed to resemble its depiction in the menu online, and the quesadilla duo was particularly disappointing—the cheese was barely melted and lacked any discernible flavor.
Regrettably, this experience ranks among the poorest I've encountered at a Mexican restaurant. I cannot recommend it based on our dining experience alone. I can't commend on the drinks because we didn't order any. However, I would advise against visiting solely for the food, especially considering the...
Read moreWhen you first walk in and get a taste of the ambiance (think upbeat Spanish songs, timbered ceiling beams festooned in colourful flags, colourful banquettes, and the large painted murals on the wall), then get seated by the smiling staff, you know you can settle in for a good night.
Drinks list was short but concise, skewing more towards cocktails, though there are a couple wine options, and the usual Corona/Modelo offerings and micheladas. No craft offerings unfortunately, but there's plenty of spots for that nearby.
Everything we tried was spot on. All meats used in dishes were tender, moist, and quality. All tacos were warm since the 100% corn tortillas are handmade in-house. The table gets three sauces to use for the various eats, and the staff are there to guide and curate if you're not sure which sauce goes with what. That chipotle sauce is the right amount of smokey and umami, and basically all I wanted. We really enjoyed the tacos al pastor and the barbacoa hidalgo, but can't wait to visit again and try more.
For those with mobility restrictions, there is a small step to the door, and a tight corner to get through the interior door before entering the restaurant.
