Love the spicy spread. Can't beat this if you are by Trinity Bellwoods and want the perfect thing to hold in your hand on a park bench! On a nice day, the wait for your sub might be ~15 mins but they're pretty efficient. The service is prompt for a place that gets busy on a weekend. I love that Lambo's created their own proprietary bread, and respect to the owners who had zero experience in food, and who wanted to create something delicious and fill a gap in the market. Looking at most of the recent 'so-so' reviews, it is clear that there is a subset of people who are 'foodies with 200+ reviews' who are doing reviews en masse and likely just reviewing things without thinking too much. (Gotta get that review count to 300, amirite). Saying Lambo's "isn't the best" is not helpful to someone who is looking for a good sandwich to eat at the park. If you have ever had a mass-market chain or poorly-made cheap sub, your barometer will be markedly different than a 'foodie who thinks this doesn't deserve 5 stars' and [insert random trendy name] is waaaay better. (Is that a person who is a snob? You be the judge). To the arugula haters: I'd rather have more than less. Arugula/rocket is good. I can't quit the Italian Trio; the Roast Beef is great for beef lovers and Englishmen; and don't sleep on the Turkey Swiss as it is also very tasty. Don't listen to the haters (so-callled 'foodies' who hate arugula...They probably don't have a taste for arugula/rocket as it may not be something they are used to eating.) Your mileage may vary, but this is a solid sandwich shop. Spend your money on something local where the owners actually give a s*. That's how we keep Canada thriving in a time of...
Read moreBest sandwiches in the city. I've actually tried all of the meat subs now, most of them multiple times! They're all great. Here's my review of them, in order:
Mortadella. The best sandwich on their menu. Simple but delicious. Mortadella is the king of Italian sandwich meats, and their giardiniera is exceptionally good.
Italian Trio. Their most interesting sandwich, very unique, and not to be missed. I sometimes add the giardiniera to this for an extra kick.
Turkey Swiss. Yes, it's a really standard sandwich with pretty basic ingredients, but the quality and the preparation make it the best turkey swiss sandwich you've ever had.
Tuna. The best tuna sandwich you've ever had. The pickled onions, arugula, and radish make it different than other tuna sandwiches you've tried, but in the best way. Tastes very fresh, with a bit of heat.
Classic Combo. Basically the mortadella with different meats + tomato, also great.
Roast Beef. Full disclosure, I didn't actually like this one too much the first time I had it, as it is quite arugula-forward, and a bit dry. But when I'm in the right mood, it's great. I recommend adding the breadcrumb gremolata to elevate it.
Turkey Pesto. Probably the healthiest option they have, but still really tasty. To be honest though, this is the one sandwich I'll probably never re-order, just cuz I'd always rather get the turkey swiss or the italian trio, not this one that's somewhere in the middle.
Hope this helps! You won't be disappointed, no matter what you...
Read moreI’ve been waiting for the right day to finally try a sandwich from Lambo’s Deli. Since they’re huge and there’s really no seating inside, I always thought carrying one home on a hot day would be too much. But today was a cool fall day - perfect sandwich weather - so I decided it was time.
I asked what their most popular sandwich was, and the person at the counter recommended the Italian Trio. For $16, you get a foot-long sandwich stacked with sopressata, mortadella, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, pickled red onion, arugula, pesto, and Calabrian chili spread. It’s all made fresh to order, and I only waited about 10 minutes.
When I got home and unwrapped it, I was blown away. The sandwich was visually stunning, with every fresh layer peeking out. The bread was soft, fresh, and easy to bite into, so I could taste everything in one perfect bite. The Calabrian chili spread gave it just the right kick, the mozzarella was pillowy soft, and the meats were perfectly spiced - not fatty at all.
Honestly, it’s big enough to share, but so good you might not want to. Now I get the hype - it’s totally worth the price for the quality you’re getting. If you’re in Toronto and looking for the best Italian sandwiches, this...
