Update: I’ve already reviewed Lena’s but I feel it was necessary to update the review. Having gone back several times since my original review I have to say it’s not the same; The curry recipe has changed. It taste more like a stew as opposed to a curry. Therefore I’m dropping it from four to three stars. End of updated review - 2025-10-12 Lena’s roti and doubles has been my go to roti shop since it’s in my area. Having grown up in Trinidad and was fortunate to have my aunt as one of the best curry cooks (Dede) in the country so I have a keen taste of what a great roti should be. Lena’s has it. True there maybe a day when the cook seems to have a bad day, but that can be said for any restaurants. The next place that has that real authentic taste is in Oakvilke but I won’t post that name here, check my other posts. At Lena’s I regularly have their bone chicken roti in dhalpuri. The bone version just tastes better as opposed to the boneless; and it’s cheaper too. The doubles is probably one of the best you’d get and rivals what you’d get from Sauce’s doubles at Curepe junction; Trini’s would know what I’m taking about. The only doubles I think that is better is in Brampton. That too I won’t say the restaurant; check my other posts. So I’ll give Lenas 4/5 for great curry and doubles. Now be sure to check your order before leaving. I’ve ordered dhalpuri chicken roti many times but always seemed to get paratha roti skins. This time I checked my dhalpuri order before leaving the restaurant and of course it was paratha, no sweat, was able to get them to fix it. For those who don’t know if you’re reading this post, it easy to check. From the outside of the folded roti look at it. You should be able to see the granules of grounded split peas through the translucent roti skin. If still not sure just gently break the first layer of the two layers of the roti skin and take a peek to look for the yellow granules. Regardless of this error that always seem to happen to me it’s my go to place for roti and doubles.

This is my top 3 so far. Out of the 3 places that sell doubles that I have tried, so far, this place was a disappointment. My top 1 would be Mona’s in Scarborough, second is the one in the Downsview Merchant Flea Market, and Lena’s is my last :/ The bara was just too eggy-tasting for me like scrambled egg taste❔❔❔ and was super oily❔❔❔and soggy ❔❔❔the bread edges were bit crispy but the middle was soggy like dissolving typa thing huuuuuhhhh ❔❔❔Chana was just like ‘rationed’ portion ❔❔❔mehhhh Flavour wise, not as savoury/umami and spice-y (like yk aromatic spice, flavour spice or whatnot) as the other ones I’ve tried. The taste was like just salted❔❔❔just salted❔❔❔, no other spice and seasoning. And also, we got 5pc + 2pc free doubles promo and asked the cashier if we could get half plain, half spicy. Did not taste any spice hotness at all. Also no tamarind even tho we asked for tamarind? Idk if they don’t do tamarind there but was so disappointed that our doubles were not spicy hot and did not have tamarind. Disappointed with how oily and soggy the doubles were especially. Maybe that’s why they had that sign that says about sales are final and that customers have to check their bag before leaving lol. 🫤

I would not return! I ordered 1 veggie platter and 2 veggie roti but was given 3 platters. When I asked how many items in a platter I was told 3 but later saw the menu said 3/4. The cost was $65, including 2 small drinks. Very expensive, but only to realize it was because we were charged for 3 platters. I was very confused when I opened the containers because there are 3 separate compartments but the person serving the food put 2 of the same items in the companlrtments to fill it up, (see photo) If I was allowed 4 items then why not tell me so when I asked. The spinach was watery. Taste wasn't terrible but it affected my stomach almost immediately. Over cooked and the Mango was not nice! It was tough, making me think it was preserved Mango from a pack. The Chana and potato was the best part of the veggies. (Not pictured) The roti skin was very thin. The lady at the counter was very nice but whatever is happening in the back is very disappointing. Snacks are also very expensive. $4.50 for 1 little pack of Kurma. I am a regular customer at Monas Roti and made a mistake by trusting this place with my favorite meal. Never again!! The quality was franchise...comparable to Sunrise. No good!!

I don't really have a lot of time to write this review so please excuse my Rush. I had called into this store of which I've been frequenting for the past 10 years at a different location though. I ordered a meal I was told it was going to be $33 after tax when I arrive here it's $50 after tax. Im In a rush to pick up my wife wasting time for an order that I pre-ordered they took 15 minutes to tell me that there's nothing they can do the extra charge was because I requested it to be packed separately the extra charge was $14 to pack my food separately. I'm ordering 10 doubles and they want to charge me $50 for 10 doubles. If I had known that I was going to be charged $14 for separate packaging then they shouldn't have given me a total after tax of 33 bucks. Seems like there's no customer service and because there's no customer service I don't need to show loyalty. Given the fact that we cater my children's birthday parties, family events through this restaurant it is definitely not my loss because there's other restaurants in town thanks for making this a pleasant experience for me Leena you won't be seeing my face in this store.

I'm not sure what people are smoking but you can't add $14 on top somebody's meal for asking them to package something separate give them one price on the phone and then another price when you come into the store this is ridiculous.... And what adds insult to injury is that they can't do anything for the long time customer.

Not only did they lose business out of my personal pocket they lost business out of my whole family's pocket because I will make sure that nobody that I know ever orders there again.

I'm on my way to indar roti and doubles at Islington and Albion. For any of you that are looking for...

This location has decent roti, I feel that the roti shell can be a bit ticker and possibly a bit bigger as often the filling falls out of the roti shell. This makes for a messy/ agitating roti eating experience that doesn’t hold up well.

The doubles are similar as the filling often falls out or brakes through the shell and please pay attention to wrapping the Doubles in better/ more paper. The doubles filling has a lot of hot sauce even when requesting none and there seems to be an extra amount of lime/ lemon juice makes for a bit of an off putting taste.

These are foods that I’ve had all my life, and I feel that my feedback should add to improving a potentially awesome product.

Last but not lease, the customer service. The person that takes the phone order and cashes out should be a bit more customer service oriented. Take time with the customers, be a bit more patient and respectful. Just rushing the order taking process (even when not busy) leads to errors in order taking. And besides it’s rude. Doing this along with trust rushing folxs.

Besides this, awesome food and a wide variety of Caribbean snacks and treats. Comments are not just meat to criticize but see the benefits of learning from these comments. And improving the business, folxs like the product, and really I only want the issues to...
