As a Singaporean, I first doubted the authenticity of the neighbouring Malaysian cuisine served here, due to the dubious naming of the restaurant and the extremely “diverse” options on the menu. However, after learning that the owner is indeed a Malaysian himself, I knew I had to give them a chance.
To test it out, I went ahead with the Roti Canai/Prata option, along with a side of chicken curry (default combo back home). I was surprised that at a price of $3 (Egg) + $1.50 (Plain) + $2.50 for curry, I did get taken back home with the very authentic crispiness, slight flakiness and flavoursome curry burst in my mouth.
With the dimly lit interior and slightly outdated furniture stacked inside, the sight of the eatery might not be aesthetically pleasing to many but don’t let that fool you from the food that is served here.
Dining-in is not an option at the moment, so I got to take-out with some disposable plates provided by the friendly lady who took my order and handled the cashier. Nevertheless, the strong stench that I suspect to be coming from the adjacent fish & meat store, can be extremely overpowering. It’s such a pity that the restaurant has to face the end of the strong stench, despite them serving some aromatic flavoursome food.
I will definitely return to try their Mee Goreng and other Malaysian dishes in the near future, when I am in the area. I strongly hope that the issue of the stench gets fixed and dining in becomes an option by then, the latter being my only reason for not giving...
Read moreI was craving for murtabak that I got to try at the Cabbagetown festival where I was unable to experience the amazing taste of it again, until I came to this little restuarant. They fortunately close late (1am) so we came around 11:30pm and dined in. The lady at the cashier was so sweet as we came from downtown to just try their food, and it was not to disappoint. She questioned where I heard of murtabak and that typically only Malaysians seem to order it and warned me it’s not the typical murtabak I may be accustomed to. But that didn’t stop me haha! The spices and aroma of the food was there and you can instantly smell how delicious your first bites was going to be. My partner and I ordered the chicken murtabak and beef fried rice and all the bites were scrumptious! It was a satisfied craving where we will order for pickup next time as we were acquainted by noisy guests where it was difficult to really enjoy the food with loud chatting & sort of making a scene as they were drunk.
Other than that my boyfriend and I will be back to purchase for pick up as the food was aromatic and delicious, truly relived my childhood experience trying murtabak at...
Read moreOver the weekend a couple of friends, my partner and I decided to try out Malaysian Garam Masala - a google search find which looked very promising. And so began our adventure to Scarborough, where good food prevails! This little place looked like it was straight out of the 90s. On entering we spotted a few gentlemen merrily enjoying their beer and food whilst watching the news on television. A wonderful lady handed us the menu and we were all set to order anything that looked appetising (which was everything!) But better sense prevailed and we decided to order some of the usual suspects based on reviews and suggestions by our lovely server. The chilli chicken, rice noodles and their Kothu roti was delicious!! The portions were really good and the food was so comforting. And it is really well priced. If you’re in the mood for some good Malaysian/Sri Lankan food then please try this place out! It’s so worth it. Definitely returning again. (We were too busy eating to take pictures! So hopefully next time I’ll update this review with...
