Overall, the food is good but the service is horrible. I've been to this establishment several times over the past decade or so, and the service seems to get progressively worse. The hosttest was not trained to handle a lunch rush. She took down my name and the number of seats (4) I wanted. Several smaller groups (1-2) got in before me but it was only when I asked her what was taking so long, that I was given a table. This was just as she was about to choose another group of 4 that came after us. We stood and waited for 40 minutes.
A group of 12 arrived shortly after us and I overheard that they had called in advance with reservations. I guess they left because clearly there were no seats for them.
Then after being seated, we were given very watered down, clear tea. It took a while to flag down the waitress and she proceeded to bring us a bucket to pour out the water we had already poured into our cups. It felt quite unprofessional.
The food came out fairly quick afterwards. The food was good, my favourite is always the Radish cake, but the service soured the dining service for us.
I will be reconsidering my options the next time I'm...
Read moreAs others have noted, the restaurant is not very big and with the amount of tables squished in here, space is a challenge. Also, it is very noisy and hectic here; conversations are amplified in volume due to the small space and people essentially breathing down your neck as they wait near the entrance. They really need to use their space better by re-arranging the external entryway .
We arrived early on a Saturday night and was promptly told we could not be seated due to the fact that our entire party was not here. Was told that once more members arrived, we could sit and order while waiting for the last set to arrive. Additional party members arrived and I informed the hostess. However, we were seated at what already a tight space for our incomplete party. When I asked, I was rudely told that this is what I asked for. No, I merely responded to the servers' request to be told when more party members arrived. Was told to wait a few minutes before the next table cleared out. Things sorted itself out but not before my blood pressure was sent soaring with the hostess candid rude reactions.
Beyond the hectic and rude service to try to get a table in the first place, the food is good and portions are quite large. Bit pricey, but still cheaper than Congee Queen.
If you're willing to put up with the chaotic, noisy environment and the typical attitude you get at places like this, then this is your place. Would like to try coming here again but would think twice after the reception...
Read moreHighly recommended Peking Duck Combo!!!!!!! My mom loves Peking Duck, so I decided to make it her birthday meal. Their Peking Duck combo includes sliced duck meat and skin (with wrap, green onion, cucumber and bbq sauce), and your choice of duck meat soup OR stir fried duck meat (with lettuce as wrap). I was excited coz it's exactly what I remember having when I was a kid. All in one price. Other restaurants are either not offering such classic combination, or they charge extra for the second duck meat dish. I saw this combo and immediately put my order online. No doubt it's the best deal I've seen.
We also ordered fried crab and boiled shrimp. As you can see in the photos, Peking Duck were in a good portion. I forgot to take a photo of duck meat soup. It came in 3 plastic containers. We only finished one that night, and the other two were used for making noodles and porridge later in the week. Everything were well packed and delicious. My mom was super happy as she didn't get to go out a lot due to pandemic. This awesome birthday meal definitely lifted her spirit up high!
As I was looking online at menu of some other restaurants that are famous for Peking Duck, I noticed many reviews mentioned takeout portion is small and the quality has decreased since pandemic. After LONG HOURS of research, I came across Mr Congee. We visited Mr Congee regularly before pandemic, but never noticed they also offer Peking Duck. It's a...
