If you’re looking for a place that truly captures the taste and soul of the Balkans, Mrakovic Meat & Deli is a hidden gem that absolutely delivers. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by the rich smell of grilled meats and baked pastries—it instantly brings back memories of home-cooked meals and family gatherings.
I’ve been coming here for a while now, and every visit has been consistently great. The cevapi are easily the best I’ve had in the GTA—juicy, perfectly seasoned, and served with fresh lepinja and onions. Their pljeskavica is also a must-try—flavorful and filling, with that authentic chargrilled taste that’s hard to find outside the Balkans.
What makes Mrakovic stand out even more is the combination of a restaurant, deli, and grocery store all in one. You can enjoy a hot meal from the grill in the back (which is honestly a little-known treasure), then walk over to the deli counter to stock up on freshly made sausages, smoked meats, and cheeses. Everything is well-packaged, fresh, and handled with care.
The bakery section is also worth exploring. Their burek (cheese, meat, or spinach) is flaky and flavorful, and they also carry traditional pastries and cookies that you just can’t find in regular supermarkets. I often grab a few for the road, and they always hit the spot.
On the grocery side, they carry a wide selection of imported products—from Ajvar and Vegeta to Eurocrem, Cockta, and all sorts of regional specialties. It’s perfect for anyone missing the taste of home or simply wanting to try something new and authentic.
The staff here are always polite and efficient, even when it gets busy. The place does get packed, especially on weekends, so I recommend coming a little early if you want to avoid the lunch rush.
The prices are fair for the quality and selection, and you really get that family-owned, community-oriented vibe that’s missing in big chains. It’s the kind of place where people shop for both everyday groceries and special occasion meals.
Whether you’re from the Balkans or just curious to try something different, Mrakovic is the real deal. Delicious food, warm service, authentic products, and a cozy vibe that keeps you coming back.
Highly recommend it for lunch, grocery shopping, catering, or just treating yourself to something truly comforting...
Read moreWhile there are still several options in Toronto/GTA for people from the Balkan region looking for a taste of home, the options are really lacking compared to what we had 10+ years ago. There are some quite expensive, merely "not bad", options, but nothing I can think of that stands out. Except Mraković. I first visited here about 10 years ago, and recall not being blown-away. Let's chock it up to it being an off day, or just faulty memory on my behalf. A few months back, I decided to revisit the IYKYK Etobicoke institution after hearing lots of praise for it lately from various sources. This time around I ended up falling deeply in love with the classic Balkan delicacies on board, and would become a weekly/bi-weekly patron moving forward. I've not had it all, but the things that are superlative iterations of their respective selves are: the čevapi (with the lepinja of course), the sać, and goulash. I've always preferred Serbian style čevaps, which prominently feature pork (and, to my tastebuds, slightly altered seasoning levels- maybe more salt-heavy), but I haven't found myself at all missing the pig at Mraković with their succulent, perfectly cooked, meat cylinders. Absolutely top-notch čevapi, potentially the best in the city at current. That is a must on any visit, but so is the sać, which is simply seasoned, but profoundly flavourful. For those unfamiliar, "sać" is a simplified umbrella term for things cooked under a large (steel?) "bell", where everything is left in one vessel to cook and absorb the others juices. It's a deceptively simple dish, but one not to be missed under any circumstance- Mraković's veal sać in particular is just heaven on a plate, my gosh! The goulash is also absolutely fantastic. Actually, my lone criticism is regarding the burek, which is not my favourite- is it filled with cottage cheese vs. feta which I'm used to and prefer? Few times I've had it, I felt it could've been baked a few minutes more- tasted a bit "raw"-, but that's my only complaint to speak of. Okay, and maybe how cramped it is in there! Other than that, I always greatly look forward to visits here. Highly...
Read moreTheir food here is amazing!! My family and I walk up there every week to get some meat, and it is amazing. My father sometimes gets a roasted lamb head, which is on special once or twice a week every few weeks. He swears up and down it's amazing. I have had their lamb bones, and they are quite good though they are quite expensive. Same as the smoked beef which is also very good but expensive. Also they have a very good smoked sausage which I eat tons of and it's quite good. The veal steak was very good and had lots of flavour. Their best product, of course, is their chevapis, which are amazing and truly a delight. I eat them sliced lengthwise on a piece of bread and it's to die for. There are only a few things in the store that I would recommend not getting. Their cheese is not so good and taste really bad. Their steak is good and thin, though still tough and does not have much flavour. You can get much better steak that is much cheaper elsewhere. Overall, this butcher is high quality though can sometimes be a bit on the expensive end. It's definitely...
