It was our first time here. Me and my friend wanted to have a nice and hot bowl of soup and we chose this place based on a great google rating 👍🏼😃 We ordered Raw Beef Soup and Curry Chicken Vermicelli Soup. Side note: I can never understand why food can’t be brought at the same time.. 🤔 So the Raw Beef soup arrived first. Large portion was ordered assuming more meat and the rest of the stuff, but in reality it was a very small amount of meet. It was definitely more for a “small” size bowl, not large. We counted 5 pcs of meet but the server claimed it’s more. Ok. Anyhow it was much less comparing to other pho restaurants we’ve been to. Finally the curry chicken soup arrived! And it looked just like an extra saucy curry pad thai to be honest. The soup was clearly missing some soup. Lol. So I requested some more liquid. The server said that’s how it’s made and if I wanted to have more broth I would have had to buy another soup portion. Hmm 🤔 okay... I told her that’s my first time here and I really wanted a soup so I asked if I can get some pho broth instead as it would make me more happy. She brought a small bowl of soup shortly after. The curry tasted good but it definitely needs to have more liquid. It looked like a bowl of noodles. The server claimed that the broth is thick and that’s why it’s like this. It was not easy to communicate to the server that the broth thickness had nothing to do with its amount. All they had to do is add more. Anyhow.. While we were half way though the appetizer finally arrived. Another side note: In my experience and knowledge the appetizer is served first. In my opinion the service didn’t meet its 4.3 star expectation at all. Not sure how this place got its rating as we weren’t impressed. After all when we got our bill we saw an extra charge for broth. I’ve been to so many pho restaurants in Toronto and I’ve asked for extra liquid a few times but that was just a broth and it was never extra. And really .. $3 for a small bowl of broth?... 🤦🏼♀️ I can’t really recommend this to anyone. I would rather drive further for a nice bowl of...
Read moreI really do not understand how this place has so many awesome reviews. I've been here 3-4 times since they opened. It's incredibly mediocre and the portions are MUCH smaller compared to other Vietnamese restaurants. I've been eating vietnamese food all my life and lived in Vietnam for 2 years. The people at this restaurant basically assume that based off my appearance, I know nothing of their culture or food.
None of the meals have been a "wow" but generally enough to come back until tonight.
I usually order a Vermicelli bowl advertised as "minced shrimp on sugarcane" except there is no sugar cane anymore. They don't server it anymore on the sugar cane because of customer complaints. While I can appreciate that, they should change their menu because it is false advertising.
They didn't even want to give it to me and when I made the order, they brought out my vermicelli dish with a spring roll instead of the minced shrimp. After notifying the server of the error, he went back to the kitchen and used a microwave to heat up a small piece of gross shrimp (picture attached.)
They gave me the vermicelli bowl for free at the end of the meal after they saw me taking pictures of the food I received - LOL.
We ordered milkshakes at the beginning of the meal and they did not arrive until we were done our appetizers and main course. Do not order the milkshakes!!! They had an odd taste to them.
THERE are FAR better options than this restaurant, let me recommend a few for you!
PHO XUA & Pho Rang Dong a few blocks further West on St. Clair and are both Superb compared to this place. They have both been around far longer and it is for a reason. It is worth the extra...
Read moreI have ordered from this place numerous times. They are fairly close to me and the food usually arrives quickly. I’m 48 and have been eating Pho and a plethora of other different Vietnamese cuisines since I was 16. My friends would go to McDonald’s and I would go for Pho. I have eaten at some of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Ontario. I have eaten aspects of Vietnamese cuisine that most Canadians wouldn’t even dream of tasting or trying or even putting in their mouths. I enjoy food from every walk of life, from every nationality and from every ethnic background equally. Vietnamese cuisine is very complex, especially boiling beef bones for broth for hours and hours…The first few times that I ordered from Pho Lang Van I was skeptical, the food was always ok but no wow factor. With my last order you guys killed it! Keep up the great work and please keep up the standards....
