My family and I had a very nice experience at Sahan😁.
We arrived around 30 past 7 on a Saturday evening and were immediately alloted a table, despite the restaurant being packed.
We ordered 2 t-bone steaks, 2 beef steaks, 1 beef suqar, 2 beef stews, and one somali milk cake😋😋
Our main server Nurah Farah, was very kind and patient. She made sure to accurately take our order and was also very friendly😊
The meals were very delicious, and rich in a homely taste. They were not spicy and had a very tasty and natural flavour. The servings were very generous, and they later provided us with boxes to pack our takeaways. The meals came with complimentary items like green hot sauce, lentil soup, jugs of mango juice and glasses of water, which were also generously served. I usually dont like soups, but the lentil soup was so delicious and it was served almost hot which was good. I tried the green hot sauce too; it was good but a little too spicy for me, but it would be nice for people who like spicy meals. The mango juice was so good, it was not too sweet and not watery like but also not thick either; you could tell they used real mangos. I almost wanted to ask how they'd made it😂. The somali cake was a takeaway, but it is so delicious; a little sweet but the texture is amazing as it is soaked in milk. Service was fast; we did not have to wait long for our order, even though we ordered a lot of food.
The restaurant is very clean and the tables were packed with families, which made it a little noisy as everyone was chatting but I found the vibe very warm and homely. There was some nice Somali music playing in the background, and once or twice they would turn off the lights for a family to sing Happy Birthday to their loved one(s). I also witnessed a Somali bride being sang to which was a wonderful experience. The families in the restaurant were of different races and it was wonderful to see so many different cultures represented there.
The staff members were very friendly and patient, despite being very busy trying to attend to customers😊
I would recommend getting there a bit early, as some of the food items from the menu were finished, but not to worry, almost all the food items are delicious which is a plus for the restaurant. I would therefore recommend getting different food items if going there with your family and share, so that you can all have a taste of everything and determine your favourite meal out of the whole menu. That being said, my favourite meal out of all that we ordered was the beef stew meal; the beef was well cooked, very rich in taste and not dry, the rice was also very tasty and it came with some salad on the side. It was a generous serving too.
Our bill came to around $160, but it was so worth it because the servings are very generous and the food is also very delicious. The restaurant environment was good too. The restaurant is kid friendly and mostly for families. There is ample free parking outside.
So, if you are looking for a restaurant with a homely feel and a place to enjoy delicious, generously served meals with your family, then this is definitely the place to go👍🏽. I would rate the place a 10/10, as my family and I had a really great experience. We will definitely be back there. Thank...
Read moreMy family and I stuck out like a sore thumb here, and at this point, I'm used to it. Adventure! I've been eyeing Sahan for quite a while, but I never came in until a friend personally recommended it. She said the portions were large and the food was good. Unlike other reviews, I'll say that while the portions were good, as a pretty average eater, I would say that I could eat about 75% of my food, so most people could probably eat a whole plate.
We asked what was good and while they were able to provide us with recommendations, they were also out of a number of their recommendations. We got there I believe about 8pm at night, so I guess I'm not super upset, but somewhat surprised, especially as throughout our dinner, the number of customers inside increased quite a bit.
We ended up getting the goat ribs, the t-bone, the beef steak, and the beef stew. My favorite was the goat ribs, although the t-bone was my second favorite. We wanted more goat ribs after, but they ran out of that too. They have an option of rice, spaghetti, or some kind of flatbread. They were out of flatbread by the time we got there. They ran out of spaghetti right after we ordered it. For the spaghetti, I really don't know why they couldn't have just made more. It wouldn't have taken that long.
Our meals were supposed to come with salad, soup, and mango juice. We got the salad and the mango juice, but when we asked about the soup, we were first told that they were out and that the chef was making more but that when it was ready, we'd be able to get some, but after, when we asked again, we were just told that they wouldn't be able to give us soup because it takes at least three hours to make and they actually weren't making any more that day. They offered us no substitutions. We had to ask. They then offered us more mango juice. That was nice, but it would have been a nice disclaimer to put that it was subject to availability. I take all of that stuff into consideration when I think about things like price and value, so to have it suddenly go missing really throws me off.
Taste-wise, everything was pretty good. Nothing super distinctive I can remember other than the hot sauce, which was bright against the richer meats and it had a very nice heat to it.
Service was friendly, albeit somewhat slow.
I might come back, but I'd come back earlier to try some of the items...
Read moreFound this place through a review on utube. Definitely a hidden gem. From the time we walked through the door, we were greeted with smiles and hospitality. I ordered the steak and rice and my wife ordered the goat Ribs and rice. Soup to start (included in meal) and mango juice (Definitely the best juice I've ever had). The plates comes piled high with rice, meat and salad. Funny story, I wasn't served with knife to cut steak. So I used my spoon to cut steak. That's how tender it was. When the Owner stopped by table to check on everything, my wife asked him for a knife. I explained that I didn't need one since the steak was tender. But he brought me a knife anyways. The rice is amazing with hints of lemon and spice. I was chasing every last grain of rice on my plate. The goat ribs were tender with just a little charing. And of course, the steak was amazing, also with just a hint of charing. With our meal finished, we stood to leave, the owner came over to ask if we had tried the tea. It was in a dispenser on a side table for everyone to enjoy. The owner insisted that we have some for the end of our meal. Not wanting to offend anyone, we had a cup of tea. It was amazing. I'm not a tea drinker, but that was crazy good. Now I understand why so many were getting tea. It's got hints of Cinnamon and is very sweet. So don't wait till the end of supper to have tea, it's there, enjoy it. The only complaint that my wife had, was that she ate too much. We took milk cake home for dessert. Bill was less than $60. With that service and great food, leave a healthy tip. Thanks Sahan for a...
