We had an absolutely delicious and mouthwatering dining experience at this restaurant today that exceeded all our expectations. Our group of eight ordered a generous spread of dishes, each more enticing than the last:

We were 8 people and ate, Mutton Ghee Roast Andhra Mutton Biryani Chicken Donne Biryani Madurai Special Mutton Biryani Hyderabad Mutton Biryani Aloo Poori Kothu Parotta -Malabar Patotta Thalassery Pepper Prawns Filter Coffee

Mutton Ghee Roast: Tender pieces of mutton cooked to perfection with rich ghee, bursting with aromatic spices that lingered on our palates. Andhra Mutton Biryani: Fluffy basmati rice layered with succulent pieces of mutton, infused with bold, spicy flavors and garnished with fried onions and fresh cilantro. Chicken Donne Biryani: This unique style of biryani featured marinated chicken, cooked in a pot to soak up all the rich, spicy flavors, making each bite incredibly satisfying. Madurai Special Mutton Biryani: A delightful blend of traditional spices and tender mutton, this dish stood out with its distinctive taste that reflected the heritage of Madurai. Hyderabad Mutton Biryani: A classic favorite, this biryani was aromatic and layered, with perfectly cooked meat and rice, capturing the essence of Hyderabad’s culinary glory. Aloo Poori: Fluffy, golden pooris served with spiced potato curry, offering a warm and comforting accompaniment to our meal. Kothu Parotta: Chopped parottas stir-fried with vegetables and spices, this dish was a delightful medley of textures and flavors, especially with the addition of egg and chicken. Malabar Patotta: Soft and flaky bread that went perfectly with our spicy curries and added a delightful touch to the meal. Thalassery Pepper Prawns: Juicy prawns cooked with a fiery pepper sauce that elevated the dish, delivering a wonderful heat that balanced well with the overall flavors. Filter Coffee: To conclude our meal, the traditional South Indian filter coffee was a perfect choice, rich and aromatic with a smooth finish.

Every single item received a perfect 10 out of 10 rating on our scale. The consistency of flavor across all dishes was nothing short of remarkable. Additionally, the staff served us with genuine kindness, contributing to the welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. The ambiance was great, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. We left completely satisfied and eager to return for...

The decor in the restaurant is really nice..that's the only impression that stuck. We ordered an appetizer chicken dish that was supposed to be dry or looked like it was from pics posted but when we got it, it was very spicy and had gravy on it. Definitely not an app or should have been served as a main dish.Didn't look like the pics. The mutton bone soup from pics and reviews wasn't as we had expected. There was mutton fat pieces , no bone and very watery. Then we ordered a Karam dosa, and that was the worst, very cold when we got it and I actually told them that we didn't want it. It was not crispy and just like it had been made a while back and reheated before serving. We decided to try the poori and channa curry after we gave back the dosa. I think of all the dishes that was the best.

You would think that since we complained about the dosa, a manager would come and talk to us about it and although, we saw someone who seemed to be like a manager, no one had come. The servers, only 3 of them were rushing around and to even get someone's attention to just get water was difficult. They weren't pleasant and honestly one of them didn't even look like she wanted to work there. Appearances matter, as servers, I don't think they should be walking around with nets on their head. There are ways to look presentable and also, the person, who seemed to be the manager was with jeans, sneakers and a baseball cap. Definitely didn't suit the ambience. Finally we ordered the payasam and the coffee. The payasam, although good was too sweet and the coffee had sugar added in it. I think that should be a choice a customer has to make as to whether we would like sugar in our...

Apparently this restaurant opened up in October last year. So my friends and I had no idea about this. We were actually on our way to Nilgiris for some south Indian food before we spotted this restaurant and decided to go here instead.

The first thing that caught our attention was the ambience. It's not a huge space but it's decorated really well. There wasn't a wait when we went in. The next thing that pleasantly surprised us was the quality of the service. All the attendants were so attentive and smiling it automatically put us in a better mood right from the onset.

Then comes the food. Everything felt like the Chef's kiss. I swear I am not getting paid or asked my restaurant to write this review. 😂 The South Indian food passed the sambar test. For whatever reason, places that claim authentic taste just can't get sambar right. Dosa, idli, medu wada all were near authentic and perfect. The quantity of sambar provided was stingy though. The other thing that I hoped were different is that there are two table located right next to the washroom. So if there's a rush and you ended up being seated there, your experience might end up being a little different than ours.

We ended up ordering a lot like we hadn't eaten in ages. We would happily return here. Can't...

HAD A DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE OVER HERE! First of all, the service was good and the ambience was good, don't have anything to complain about and hence have given 5 stars. Now let's come to the food experience. None of the items ordered had the taste it should have had and even the masala curries tasted bland with no spice or salt. Not even worth a single star! I see the reviews here saying the food is good and we got fooled by them. People should taste good food before rating this place as good. They say this restaurant's got the Southern States of Indian Cuisines and we tried atleast one from each state's dishes and nothing was good. Literally nothing. Starting with the soup tasting and feeling as just drinking oil to the Mutton Dishes which were half cooked, nothing had a taste. Can't believe the chef is from Chennai. We did mention the same to the waitress and saw her talk with other staffs. Not sure if the owner was present at the counter but even after mentioning all this to them, none had the courtesy to apologise for giving this kind of experience. Overall, there are much more better tasting restaurants out there, even if not the best. Would never recommend someone to this place!

Visited Simply South in Scarborough and had a mostly great experience. We ordered Konaseema Chicken Curry (recommended by the waiter when I asked for something spicy), Chennai Chicken 65 Dry, Malabar Porotta, Butter Naan, Mango Lassi, and Lime Soda. The Konaseema Chicken Curry was well-cooked but had a sourness typical of Hyderabadi-style curries—not really my taste, though those who enjoy that style might like it. Everything else was really good—the Chicken 65 was packed with flavor, the porotta and naan were fresh and soft, and the drinks were refreshing (though I felt the drink portions were a bit smaller than usual). One thing to note: Simply South doesn't focus on just one state. You can order dishes from all five South Indian states—Andhra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. That’s both a strength and a drawback—great for variety, but it can also mean less focus on mastering one region’s cuisine. The staff were excellent—very helpful and responsive. I asked for a substitute dipping sauce instead of mint for the Chicken 65, and they fixed it right away. The ambiance is clean and welcoming. Would return to explore more from the menu!

“Simply South”got good ratings, we decided to explore for ourselves. We found out from our server Triveni that the restaurant just opened for a few months. She was a bit shine in the beginning as we were the only 2 patrons that are non Indian. Nevertheless she was very attentive, when she found out we were enthusiastic to learn about their different cities in the southern India (which is the restaurant’s speciality) and most of all their food, she answered all of our questions. She take pride in working in the restaurant & her origin from Southern India makes us feel very good! The restaurant is clean, bright, we like the vibe of their music. I must also review about their food. It was simply authentic Indian daily food made with special spices that makes you want more. I have to order a Mango Lassi to chill a bit though. The mango yogurt cold drink served the purpose I need + delightful. Their Dilliwala Butter Chicken was the best I had. They have a variety of Dosa (like a crepe) yet more delicate, and, Mysore Dosa that we ordered is a specialty from their town of Mysore. Look at the photos that I took of the food that we ordered. Explore for yourself.
