Literally called Cafe Le Majestik because it's located in a plaza called Majestic City. How poetic is that? Parking lot is fairly huge. Located in the heart of scarborough.
It's a HK cafe so obviously you don't expect good service or question the cleanliness of the eating utensils haha. You just needa know if the food slaps and that's what keeps hk cafes poppin.
Mong Kok broadway: This dish came w/ curry fish balls, chitterlings, pork skin, pig blood jelly and chives. They give you a lot of fish balls and the pork skin was actually cooked quite well. However, there was practically no curry sauce on the fish balls.
Curry fish balls: Ok so we got HELLA finessed with this dish. All the yelp photos show the fish balls smothered in curry. Our balls were not covered at all. No exaggeration. I feel like they ran out of curry sauce but had an abundance of fish balls and just didn't bother to telling us that they ran out of sauce. The balls were cooked really well which was frustrating. Could've been amazing had we actually gotten curry slathered on our balls.
Salted egg yolk french toast w/ condensed milk: Great french toast. Fluffy, proper, thick bread with ooey gooey salted egg flowing out from the middle. The condensed milk is the perfect pairing because you get salty and sweet in your mouth. The toast was also bigger than I expected.
Wonton noodle soup: Uhhh.... yea, it doesn't hold a candle to Jim Chai Kee, Big Trio or Wonton Chai but at least the soup wasn't bland? Haha
Yangzhou fried rice: Insta pass next time for me. Bland rice and not enough seasoning.
Salted egg yolk fried wings: Quite crispy and the wings were big! Steep pricing though and I think I'd pass on this dish next time.
Beef brisket w/ radish (side order): We ordered this as an extra meat dish. Some brisket pieces were very tender, some were tough. Not enough consistency but the flavour was good! The radish could've been softer imo.
Singapore style fried vermicelli: Probably my fave dish of the bunch. The vermicelli had good "wok hay" and the seasoning was excellent. It was also a huge portion.
Pork chop with yin yang sauce on rice: The pork chop was a nice blend of fatty and lean meat. I did enjoy the red sauce more than the white sauce (the white sauce tasted tinny to me) but I do appreciate that it was a big portion.
Curry pork chop with scrambled egg on rice: This was my 2nd fave dish. The scrambled eggs were cooked to perfection (runny and rare) and the pork chop was drowned in that wonderful curry sauce that the fish balls were missing (funny how that works eh). All the rice grains were coated evenly with the curry sauce and every bite was just nomnomnom.
Pig shaped milk pudding: While cute, this one was served with milk so the flavour was much more subdued and subtle.
Bunny shaped milk pudding: Exact same milk pudding but shaped like bunnies and actually served with crushed oreos. I actually liked this one a lot more because of the textural contrast b/w the soft pudding and the crunchy oreos and the oreos being sweet actually elevated the flavour of the subtle pudding.
Would definitely return to reorder some of these and also try...
Read moreIn search of new and trending foods in the GTA brought me to this HK style diner in Scarborough. Located at the intersection of Markham Rd and McNicoll Ave, this restaurant is beside the Majestik City mall.
When we arrived there was a tablet style waiting list screen to enter your cell phone number to receive a text notification. We had to wait about 20 minutes to get our table. While we were waiting we saw some of the freshly made food from the kitchen which has a large window for customers to view. The decor also transports you to Hong Kong. The walls have pictures of the towering apartment buildings in HK. The plastic stool chairs and square Mah Jong style tables were also nostalgic and retro feeling.
There's a QR code to scan on your phone to order your meal. This is the new age dining experience. Less interaction with the servers. The servers were focused on bringing out the orders.
Most of the food was served pretty fast like the beef tendon and brisket noodle, wonton noodle soup and fish ball and cuttlefish ball noodle soup. My family enjoyed the food. Some of the orders offer an option to add a hot ($2 up charge) or cold drink ($3 up charge). Most of these HK style diners give you a free hot drink however this place does not.
My dim sum combo was served in a large bamboo steamer tray. The dim sum was definitely IG worthy and well presented. The dim sum were pretty good and nicely portioned.
My wife got the curry kimchi flavored chicken cutlet and scrambled egg in rice. The portion was generous and the chicken cutlet was boneless chicken thigh with crispy skin on. Very filling and wife was very happy with the food.
My fried 'shin Ramyun' korean instant noodles with chicken cutlet served in a bowl. The noodles were stir fried and you can taste the 'wok hei' which brings back memories of eating Cantonese food in Hong Kong. I would definitely order this again. Perfect balance of flavour in the noodles along with a juicy chicken cutlet.
My sister-in-law got the claypot spareribs with rice. It took 45 minutes to come out. It warns you on the menu as well. This order left us wanting more. There was a small portion of spareribs and mostly rice. I would not recommend this dish if it's your first time. Not worth the wait.
Overall we enjoyed our experience here. It is on the pricier spectrum for HK style dining experience. They do have a decent amount of options for you to try. So you can always come back and try somethint new. The dim sum desserts were very eye candy and fun. Your kids will love it!
Give this place a try if you're interested in trying some authentic HK style diner food.

Over the last few months, I have been misled by several cafés / restaurants video reviews post by some online content creators. I just want to share my true experiences as an average consumer and don’t want people wasting 45 minutes for the lineup.
The Bad:
• The seat is super uncomfortable.
• The Cold Lemon Tea [menu price $4.39 CDN] is 75% ice cubes [photo attached]. I truly feel Scammed.
• The same Cold Lemon Tea [menu price $4.39 CDN] barely have any tea taste. If not due to the colour, I will believe I ordered a Cold Lemon Water instead.
• The Curry Fish Balls is super salty, that why I ordered the Cold Lemon Tea.
• The Steamed bun with pork belly & pickled cabbage barely have any Chinese pickled cabbage taste.
• As for the Swan Crisp in Durian and Cheese yogurt flavor dish, the golden colour Swan have a rich Durian flavour but the red colour Swan have no taste at all. Both Swans are not crisp at all. [photo attached]
• The restaurant server notifies me after I ordered more than half an hour, the Shrimp Dumpling is sold out. It sound like a minor issue but during the online video review / interview, the content creator mentioned this restaurant specially hired in house dim sum chef to create their own dim sum. Even their restaurant own special menu listed several of their dim sum items. If you are Cantonese, you will understand that (non dessert) steam Dim Sum is the key component of a full Dim Sum experiences. They only have “Dim Sum Combo”, “Shrimp Dumpling”, and “Siu Mai with quail eggs” (non dessert) steam Dim Sum. In their Smartphone order App, the “Dim Sum Combo” and “Siu Mai with quail eggs” are already sold out. If I know in advance their “Shrimp Dumpling” is sold out as well when I order, I will just leave and don’t waste time.
The Average:
• The Milk Tea In Hong Kong tasted okay, just not enough evaporated milk.
The Good:
• The staff will provide customer paper napkins when you ask them politely.
• The Cheese Wonton with Shrimp is very crispy outside and the shrimps inside are fresh and bound. No cheese taste at all.
• The salt egg custard inside the Lava Custard Bun is silky smooth and tasty.
Hope you find my honest...
