Original review: We were excited to try the food due to all positive reviews,we love flavourful as well as spicy food. We were so disappointed, felt completely ripped off. We got curry goat and jerk chicken. No flavour, so bland, I was in disbelief because this cuisine means LOTS of flavour and decent amount of spice. Lacked both. Curry goat was wildly dry. Jerk chicken was so bland, I bought oxtail gravy and hot sauce to save it. It didn't. Oxtail gravy was flavorless brown water. Hot sauce was the only good thing, but the amount they give you was so miniscule..2 bites. And you have to pay extra for it. Ridiculous. We didn't expect the food to be so flavorless, we got take out container from the beginning ( which you also have to pay extra), we ended up throwing 70% of the away because we just couldnt enjoy it. Amount we paid for the food compared to quality and lack of flavour- so disproportional. Coleslaw is flavorless but somehow also bitter. Coleslaw from a tub at Walmart has more flavour. And I'm not even a picky eater and enjoy most of the foods I eat. Felt ripped off.

Everything is fine with my taste buds, no, they dont need to be checked by a professional as the owner responds to negative reviews here. I love spicy, I love flavourful, i love spice, and tried almost every food spot with similar cuisine in the area, and that was notttttt it. Will never come back and will not recommend to anyone. There are so many amazing places in the area that will serve you food blasting with flavour.

Owner, you need to stop agressively reacting to negative reviews and may be start acting professional? It's not a direct insult to you, it's criticism of the food you serve.

On Thursday July 17th I just happened to be in the parking lot of where Smoking Roti is located at the corner of Keel and Shepherd. I witnessed an extortion attempt for $500 and the threat of calling the police by a man accusing another man of opening his car door and putting a ding in his car.

The fact is there was no ding and barely even a mark that was visible.

And yet the man who allegedly says his car was damaged kept persisting on extorting the poor guy by feeding him a list of Lies including the whole door had to be replaced.

The commotion was so loud that the owners of Smoking Roti came out to try to help the situation but unfortunately they were at the receiving end of abuse from the individual trying to extort the other driver who just happens to work in one of the businesses in the same Plaza whom I recognize.

Thanks to the help of the Smoking Roti owners the extortion did not take place and the falsely accused individual was able to go his way.

But here's where the story gets interesting the extortion individual was so upset that he didn't get his money from his victim that he decided to exact retribution on Smoking Roti via Google reviews. The extortion individual went so far as to post one review trashing Smoking Roti for getting involved in a dispute that he does not explain was an extortion attempt and then post another three fake one-star reviews.

I hope extortion man is reading this review right now because its possable there may be photographs of him arguing with the other driver the license plates of both cars and names of witnesses to what was happening here so the truth will come out if required.

A charge of extortion will far exceed the $500 he was trying to get from his victim.

So sad to see people doing this kind of thing but I will give Smoking Roti 10 five star reviews for just being good citizens.

The personal details you mentioned — like a vehicle and someone’s workplace — have nothing to do with me. You’ve targeted the wrong person, and that kind of reckless accusation borders on harassment.

I have every right to share my experience. Instead of addressing the feedback, you responded with threats and wild claims — proving the lack of professionalism others have pointed out.

Unpleasant Experience — Never Returning

Visited Smoke ‘N’ Roti in North York with my family, and it was one of the most uncomfortable restaurant experiences we’ve ever had. The woman working there was extremely rude and unprofessional — her attitude created a negative and unwelcoming environment from the moment we walked in.

We placed our order, but something about the way she handled the food made us feel uneasy. I can’t say for sure, but it honestly felt like the food may have been tampered with. Out of caution, we didn’t even taste it. We quietly paid and left, not wanting to get involved in anything.

After this, I looked at the reviews — and it all made sense. Many of the five-star reviews seem questionable, and some of the responses to genuine customer concerns are shockingly disrespectful. It even looks like some replies and reviews might be coming from the same person, just trying to defend the business instead of accepting honest feedback.

To whoever is running this place — you need to focus more on customer service and less on damage control. And to the rude staff member — your behavior alone is reason enough to stay away.
