We love hakka and look forward to hakka food when we’re in Toronto. It’s a ritual. We decided to look at google ratings this time and try a different place as our usual place was closed due to Covid. Enter Spicy Dragon. Google ratings were higher than the OG hakka places in Scarborough like Lucky. Suffice to say we were very very excited calling in to order. We ordered one large Chicken Corn Soup, one Spicy Dragon Chicken, one Crispy Beef, one Special Spicy Dragon noodles and one Shrimp fried rice. They had run out of wontons so we picked those up from another hakka restaurant (because what’s a Chinese meal without wontons?!) Food was majorly disappointing and basically tasteless. Chicken corn soup had plenty of chicken but no salt or seasoning. All the dishes we picked were beyond underwhelming. The sauces helped a bit but they came in tiny little tubs, frankly not enough for 5 adults. We had to bring in our own hot sauces and soy sauces to make the food palatable. Upsides - quantity. Lots of food and we had left overs for days. (Maybe because it was tasteless?!) Prices are reasonable with 10% discount for cash pick ups.

I love chinese but I haven't developed the taste of hakka chinese yet or there is something missing. Very less salt then it should be according to our liking. American chop suey is one of my favourite dishes but here it was not good at all. Where as Chicken fried rice was good plus the chilli beef with gravy was a decent dish. Shrimp pakora also was a decent one. Service was a good one. Dishes we tried Corn soup: Decent taste. Good serving can serve at least 6 bowls. Shrimp pakora: can be tried once. Chilli beef with gravy: liked it (a bit more seasoning would have been better). Chicken fried rice: Better American Chop suey: Not at all according to our taste buds. Left almost all of it Service: Nice people (3 rating is for the good service only, otherwise it was 2)

I ordered from Spicy Dragon expecting a nice meal, but what I got was a nightmare. Halfway through eating, I found a roach in my food! It was an absolutely revolting experience, and I felt sick just thinking about it. I contacted the staff immediately, but their response was underwhelming. Went back for a refund and they did not want to refund the full bill and the reasoning was because it was $100. After going back and forth with them they did give me a refund for the total bill. No one should have to deal with this level of poor hygiene, especially from a restaurant. Needless to say, I won’t be eating here again and would advise others to think twice before dining here. Cleanliness should be a top priority for any food establishment!

We ordered catering on May 11. Everything was great until we realized that our one medium tray of noodles was foul smelling at the end of the night. We bought two trays of noodles and we were so lucky to have served the tray with good noodles to our guests. Thank God no one fell ill. We also ordered a large tray of beef and chicken. There was nothing wrong with either of them. We ensured that the trays were opened immediately to avoid moisture from adding up in the trays. This was told to us by the server. We also traveled a short distance so there was no reason for the noodles to get spoiled. Service was great. The owner did give us a refund for the spoilt tray. However, the reason for two stars is that the owner did not accept the fact that the food was spoilt. He didn't want to admit that there was fault on their end. He repeatedly admitted that the fault was us. He stated we must have picked up the food late and that we must have eaten late. He repeatedly said that the food should be eaten right away, which we did. But, are you really telling me that your food will not stay fresh until the next day or a few days later for the amount we paid. We are extremely dissatisfied with the lack of apology and acceptance. At least the owner should have appreciated that we bought this to his attention. If he didn't cook the food, he doesn't have the right to blame us without an investigation into his kitchen. If an outbreak had occurred in our party, I'd have ensured there was a health inspection. Please be aware of this restaurant. We have catered from the Pickering spicy dragon multiple times and have never encountered this issue. In fact, we have catered from several locations and have never encountered...

I get their lunch special almost every week! Delicious food and fast service every time, and at a reasonable price. I get their lunch special almost every week! Delicious food and fast service every time, and at a reasonable price.

For the Lunch Special, I usually stick to either Chilli Chicken, Manchurian Chicken or Chicken Fried Rice. One thing I loved was that I was able to get the chicken fried rice made with less oil, and it was amazing. I'm definitely going to try asking for less oil when ordering all my dishes next time.

I some of my usual go-to dishes for dinner are:

Chicken Pakoras - some of the best ones out there, they use great chunks of meat, and they are fried to perfection! Also the batter is Gram flour/ chickpea flour based, so if you're gluten free it's worth a try!

Veggie Hakka Noodles - good, but sometimes can be a bit soggy because the noodles themselves are a bit flimsy.

Chili Chicken with Gravy - a staple! it has a lot of green chillies

Manchurian Chicken with Gravy - Tossed in a Red Manchurian Sauce, it has a great taste and its not too spicy!

Veggie Fried Rice - it's honestly just as good as the Chicken Fried Rice, (they just substitute the chicken with Broccoli ) so if you have vegetarian with you, definitely get this to share!

Chicken Corn Soup - A Hakka Staple! It's a pretty mild soup with exactly as its described; chicken and corn.

Hot and Sour Soup - absolutely delicious! There is chicken in it, but I believe you can get it...
