These folks deserve your money, support, anything you can give them. It is my favourite Korean place in Toronto so far, and honestly one of my favourite places to get a quick meal or snack.
I've tried items 1-4 on their menu as well the pork belly gimbap. All very delicious. My personal favourite is the pork bone in broth - reminds me of home and my grandmother's cooking, just a very nice meal that will warm you up inside. The beef bulgogi bibimbap is also amazing and has so many different flavours and textures. The gochujang sauce is underneath everything in the bowl so make sure you mix it all up well. All their side dishes in the Dosirak (lunchbox) are super tasty and they change them up a bit every so often. The side dishes are all very interesting as well - not what you usually find in most Korean restaurants. And of course, the kimchi is their specialty and was absolutely delicious. The kimchi and pork riblets as well as the chicken wings dosirak are great if you're looking for something that's flavourful and has a nice kick but isn't overpowering in spicyness. The prices are also very affordable for the amount of food you get.
The owners (siblings Mike and Su Jin) are super receptive to feedback as well and they try to come out to bring your food to you so you have a "dine-in" experience even though it's outdoor seating associated with the local community centre beside it. The place depends on quite a bit of foot traffic through the area, so it can be easy to miss and you have to know where to look.
I'm new to Toronto, and when I mentioned this to the owners, they went out of their way to make me feel more at home and told me not to be a stranger, and to come by if I needed anything, or just if I wanted some people to talk to. I genuinely really appreciated this. I came here once with my family, and then another time with friends weeks later, and the second time they remembered me! This was the first place in Toronto that really made me feel like I was part of a community. The dining experience feels extra special knowing that their dishes are all things their mother cooked for them growing up. They definitely put all their heart and soul into their food and that makes it even more homey and tasty.
I'd give more than 5 stars if I could, but will definitely be going again and recommending SuLee Dosirak to everyone I know. I hope these folks get a sit-down restaurant someday, because they...
Read moreAs a (first time)traveler to Toronto, and Kensington market, I wanted to try this Korean bento lunch after reading good reviews. When I approached the stool, I was greeted by Michael(hope I got his name right!) and felt very welcomed. I ordered Kimchi jjim bento. This dish is not usually available on Korean food stool setting since it takes time to cook it right. But this place had it! So it made me curious how it would taste. And I am glad that I went for this dish! Kimchi jjim was REALLY REALLYGOOD! Soft kimchi and pork, yum! I could tell that they used quality meat as well(no bad smell or lingering taste!). I also could tell that their kimchi is not store-bought. It is homemade, GOOD kimchi. Like my grandma and my mom used to make every winter back in Korea. This food stool also used multi grain. More nutritious but can be costly for the stool owners. But they anyway did it for their customers. I know, not all Korean restaurants spend extra money on multi grain, and most of them choose white rice for less cost.
The bento came with MANY side dishes which tasted really good, too! They are real Korean side dishes. Not Americanized/canadianized. Some people might feel they are slightly bland but as a Korean born and raised in Korea, I felt they are excellent and authentic!
Also, Portion-wise, the owners were generous. it was more than enough! I finished everything and felt full and satisfied.
Lastly, Michael's wife(or sister?) came over to me while I was eating, to ask how I am enjoying their food. It showed that she cares about how her customers think about their food. Very humble and open-minded. I said it is really good and she told me that she learned how to make all these dishes from her mom before she passed away in 2018.
I hope many more people go and give it a try. I am sure you'll not be disappointed. For Value for money. For taste....
Read moreSuLee Dosirak is another new addition to Market 707, a collection of businesses that run out of shipping containers. This new eatery serves a variety of comfort Korean food meals (pork bone, pork riblets, chicken wings, bibimbap, gimbap, kimchi pancake). Each meal comes with the protein of choice as well as rice and a wide variety of banchan (side dishes). I came about to know of SuLee Dosirak as I had been following SuLee Kimchi for quite sometime, wanting to support small local businesses that have been popping up during the pandemic.
I ordered a pork bone jjm dosirak and a KBBQ gimbap off Ritual for pick up during a weekday. I showed up at the eatery around the time my order was ready and was greeted by the siblings that started the business. We chatted a bit and they were super friendly.
Food wise, the portions of the food were spot on, the right amount for a meal. The wide variety of banchan included in the meal was great as I was able to try a bit of each without being overwhelmed. The pork bone jjim itself was extremely flavourful and delicious where the meat was tender and pretty much fall off the bone. The KBBQ gimbap was a unique twist as I'm used to eating more tradtionally made gimbap.
Overall, great new addition to Dundas/Bathurst, definitely recommend checking them out if you are craving comfort Korean food. I will be...
