Some of the worst customer service I've ever had. I arrived for dinner as a single person and it wasn't busy as it was snowy outside.

I was quickly seated and ordered 5 minutes after seating. I ordered two rolls, the shrimp tempura, sashimi and miso soup. After arriving at 8:15 and placing my order at 8:20, I waited 15 minutes until I saw the table who had been sat down after me get served their food. Up to that point I still had not received anything, not even a water. After flagging a waitress down, I was given an apology but she looked like she didn't understand me. My miso soup arrived with no spoon alongside my water at 8:50. Afterwards, I had to flag down another waitress and ask for my food as I saw they processed multiple takeout orders and other tables. At this point I was frustrated by the wait and asked for a manager and she mumbled something incoherently before giving me another apology. She also had to come back afterwards to clarify my order because she wrote it wrong. After my order finally came at 8:55, I noticed that my order was still wrong and notified the waitress. Halfway through my meal I noticed that the manager did come in, but he ended up chewing out one of their newer trainees within earshot of me.

Overall, the food was acceptable. The tako, ika, and hamachi sashimi were all odd. I found the hamachi to be oddly sour, while the tako sashimi was wet for some reason. Some of the rolls fell apart when I picked them up with my chopsticks and I also noticed they weren't evenly cut. The tempura was excessively breaded and ended up flaking off everywhere and was overall quite plain.

Food aside, I wouldn't come back here or even recommend it. It seems that they are incapable of managing their staff professionally, hiring competent staff and only value customers who come in groups of 4 or more. Even so, I noticed that the table of 6 beside me made multiple comments on how they had been waiting for a long time for some of...

I would rate this more stars, however the customer service for take out food is sub-par. This isnt the first time where I ordered takeout and had issues. If we are ordering multiple orders of something please separate the boxes unless stated otherwise. Sometimes the order is for 2 separate people even though it is the same order, not everyone likes to have their food in the same space as someone else's... especially when its a work/business order for different people and having to separate it individually can be very inconvenient. Utensils are not always there, for example we got our chopsticks, but no spoons or fork were provided for the miso soup or salad. This makes it difficult when you are not delivering it to a home, and there are no utensils at the business. Please read the notes in the section. I asked for spicy mayo on the side, and no spicy mayo was added. I always eat my sushi with spicy mayo and not having it i was deeply upset. If it is an additional cost, you should add it in the menu. However I have ordered spicy mayo on the side in the past, and it was provided.

Your sushi is amazing, dont get me wrong! But these issues can be so inconvenient that makes you not wanna order it again. When you order from ubereats/skipthedishes its not something you can just bring back right then and there opposed to picking it up and checking the food to make sure it is right... so it's so very important that everything is done dilligently for take out customers! An advice would be just to place the items in the takeout bag one by one as the receipt says, that way you know you arent going to miss anything. I am going to order ONE more time and hopefully the next time will be correct. If not it will be sad to say that you lost a loyal customer! AGAIN.... no issues with the quality of the sushi!!...

We have been going here since they opened and are there 2-3 times a week between my office and kids. Today I called in an order for 3 kids all with no wasabi or ginger, something I do all the time so they are used to it. They mixed up one of the California rolls with a golden California roll which is deep fried and covered in a spicy sauce. I called to ask them to make the correct rolls and was told “that would be $4.24.” So I took the other rolls back and like I thought I was charged again to get the correct order. This was in part because it listed it on the receipt. I said they put the order on the counter (receipt taped to bag facing the other way) and I paid for it with the normal crush of people waiting so I picked up the bag and left. If you are familiar with this place you know how insane it gets. It was in the car I noticed and called them right away. When I went in I asked why they thought I would have ordered something spicy with no wasabi or ginger requested? Then I pointed out I tipped more then the price of the California rolls when I picked up the order (yes I even tip on take out) and that making me pay again was beyond poor service. So yes I paid them another $4.24 to get my order and yes I was very disappointed but I will go back. I don’t go for the service. The sushi is usually good, it is across the street and is cheap. So do go for the food but do not expect great service and if a mistake is made you will pay twice. Now I will always check my order before paying no matter how busy the counter is and that was the last tip I will leave there for dine in...

Prepare to have your expectations gloriously shattered at Sushi California. Honestly, the quality of sushi you get for the price here is nothing short of astounding – in the best way possible! The sashimi was incredibly fresh, practically swimming from the ocean onto my plate. And the rolls? Oh, the rolls! They were so absurdly generous, you might think they'd had a growth spurt – prepare for a delightful challenge, perhaps even requiring a two-hand grip! My friend, who actually owns a sushi restaurant back in Montana, was equally floored, genuinely questioning how they manage to sell such fantastic sushi at these prices. It was quite a spectacle watching him try to decipher their secret. The place itself was buzzing with energy, packed with a diverse crowd of patrons from all walks of life, including many fellow Asians, which is always a good sign. The vibrant atmosphere just added to the experience. A quick tip for your visit: Parking can be found affordably on nearby streets or at the 91 Via Italia parking lot. All in all, it was a thoroughly satisfying meal that left both my taste buds and my wallet surprisingly happy. If you're looking for an incredible sushi experience that punches way above its weight class, Sushi California is definitely where it's at!

Sushi California is the most reliable sushi joint on St Clair west. It’s really this place, or the Kibo Sushi by Christie (which is a pretty mid Kibo experience compared to others). This place has really tight seating for the main tables, but if you can snag one of the booths, you’re gonna have a very chill and relaxing time; spacious and quiet! Ordered the Sushi California Boat + a few other things, and I was so surprised by the size of these sashimi pieces… absolutely massive! For $35, we were pretty blown away by how liberal the slices were! Fresh salmon, and a nice variety on the platter. Tuna has a little bit of a fishy vibe, but it wasn’t too far gone. Definitely worth ordering this; great for sharing. Servers were super speedy and kind, food arrived promptly! This place is consistent and reliable… it’s not the fanciest sushi you’ll ever have, but you’ll be satisfied if you’re looking for that perfect mid-tier casual sushi experience! P.S. Eliza Niemi’s song "Sushi California" is, in fact, written after this establishment’s namesake. Legendary; look it up

Very reasonable prices for freshly made sushis. With the ongoing inflation, this places offer a chance for quality sushis to be enjoyed without puncturing the wallet. Miso Soup was flavourful at just $1, along with the vegetable Gyozas which were hot & crispy and stuffed properly. All our sushis felt very fresh with the rice not being too sticky or starchy like how most AYCE sushi places would do so. The “Spicy Sushis” however are simply sushis topped with sriracha mayonnaise, which I do not find it to be spicy in any way but I will let that slide since it’s a norm for sushi places to do their “spicy” sushis that way. The fishes used in the sushis were fresh and in no way felt stale or underwhelmed by weighting more on the rice. On a Sunday evening, despite being very busy, the hardworking staff were still attentive to our table and were responsive to our concerns. If I am in the midtown Toronto area, I already know where I’m heading for sushis which is definitely going to be Sushi California.
