Tahini's — Restaurant in Toronto

I've been in Toronto on business since Sunday, March 19, 2023 and today (March 22nd) I chose to eat lunch at Tahini's because of the Google reviews (4.5+) and my love Mediterranean / Middle Eastern cuisine.

Let me just say THANK YOU SO MUCH for THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE I'VE HAD ALL WEEK!!

Seriously, my dining experiences in Toronto have been really unpleasant up till today. Tahini's provided a lovely change of pace!

The staff was incredibly patient with our order. We had never been here before so we needed more than a few minutes to review the menu. (Also -- the menu was very well laid out and easy to understand. Excellent design/formatting!)

The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating with my "special" requests (ie: sauces on the side and asking for an extra sauce to go since I couldn't finish my meal and took the rest to go.)

And the entire time -- smiles on their faces. Always appreciated :)

We started with falafel and samosas. I LOVED the falafel. Nicely-sized and perfectly crispy on the outside. My colleague loved the samosas! They were on the smaller side, but quite tasty and fresh!

My colleague also ordered a combo meal which comes with a soda and a side of lentil soup. I decided to have a taste of the soup even though I don't particularly eat or like lentils.

WOWEE! -- The soup was OH SO COZY & SCRUMPTIOUS!!! I am now a lentil-lover! The crispy beef bacon and touch of parsley -- YUM YUM YUM! The synergy of flavors made every bite the perfect bite! (...Sorry not sorry to my colleague because I think I ate most of it -- HAHA!)

I ordered a mixed shwarma bowl and I have ZERO complaints. In fact, I'm so happy my colleague convinced me to order the larger size because now I have leftovers for dinner and can't wait!

Not sure about the reviews here saying this place has great service. Walked in with my family and they just stared at us, so I said “hello” and they continued to just stare at us without saying anything. The restaurant was empty so it was not like they were busy. Either very rude or very prejudiced people that capitalize off of selling Black culture food (i.e. “jerk chicken” bowls) but were clearly upset by the presence of Black people in their store. Should have just walked out at that point. Ordered shawn bowls & a butter chicken bowl. Food was nothing special and did not taste like authentic shawarma. Chicken was rather bland and lacked seasoning. They barely give any rice at all. One little tiny spoon. And they cap the amount of toppings you can get. Any other shawarma place I have been to, they give you, at the bare minimum, tomatoes, onions, parsley, pickles, turnips, plus the sauces you want. Here, they group toppings to include both sauces and toppings. You’re only allowed five altogether so you end up with way less than you would at a standard shawarma place. I also don’t like the way they dump everything together. The way they dump the sauce ends up making a mess. Not sure why they don’t have a squeeze bottle to apply the sauce like the other shawarma places. ———— Response to owner:

We tried chicken Shawn bowl, Habibi bowl, their shawarma roll and messy fries. Absolutely loved everything that we ordered! Chicken Shawn bowl came with a delicious smooth humus and garlic sauce and a fresh delicious fattoush salad! The rice was tasty and so was their chicken. This was my favorite out of them all because of the fresh crispy salad with Cherry tomatoes and the humus that accompanied it! Habibi bowl came with fried onions that added to the flavor of the rice and the chicken and the pita chips gave it a crunchy texture. We would've loved a little bit more sauce as it wasn't enough for the huge quantity of rice and chicken but delicious nonetheless! Both bowls were filled to the max! Loved the quality and quality of everything! Another favorite were the messy fries! The tangy barbecue sauce was very flavorful that went with the fries and the meat! Loved it ! Very tasty! Chicken shawarma roll was also really good ! We ordered it small but that small size was also quite a lot and wonderfully full ! Highly recommend all the dishes we tried! It was not costly and the quantities were amazing! Worth every cent! Everything was tasty and prepared fresh! The staff were also very friendly and professional!
