Went to Celebrate with family. The location is great and quite close to Davisville Subway Station. The patio is set up on the street right on the front so the parking space is botched.
Appetizers :- Both the tems tasted very good and the presentation is just amazing . But the portion for the price is ridiculous. $2 dollar plus tax for one Gol Gappa .I mean come on.
The green chutney with Malai Chaap tasted so good but the chaap itself was low in portion .
Main Course :-
Chicken Kadai was okay .
Rogan Josh had good tasting lamb but the gravy had too much whole spices which overpowered the taste.
The portions were meh.
The cocktail Daaru Wali Bhaang,Gulabo and Chuski were all good but again $13-14 for that portion seems a bit of a strech.
I know this place is on Yonge Street and one pays for the ambience but for that price, the taste should be heavenly which it was not.
Ambience : The restaurant is designed beautifully and it has lots of bollywood art stars. The songs are constantly playing which makes its thematicay bollywood but the volume is too high .It is so high that you cannot hear the other person talking and servers taking order had trouble communicating. This is the one of the things i hate about Indian weddings that when you want to eat and talk to your cousins but music is too high and you have to yell it ,this has the same feeling.
Our server, Manraj Singh was attentive and cared about our experience .He is quite good.
The Emergency Response :- After finishing our meal we asked for the bill and the fire alarm went off .The alarm sounded a bit different like a bell going (different than what i have encountered in Canada working in security).I literally thought it was some resturant thing because for a good 3 minutes ,no employee responded like its an emergency and because the music was so loud ,the alarm was muffled which makes it a unsafe situation. Finally they asked everyone to evacuate after 4-5 minutes. We sat outside in patio because we had to pay our bill and most of the employees seemed bamboozled and confused about how to respond. They started yelling orders at each other. I am surprised at the lack of emergency traning . They should have asked to evacuate right away but they were trying to fix it themselves .Fire department arrived and took charge.Manraj took our details and said he will send bill later which can be paid via interac.
Overall, great presentation, very good service(Manraj especially) ,mixed taste, unnecessary loud music (which hinders the emergency procedure ) and staff definitely needs emergency training .
Reply to the owner :-
Thank you for replying .I understand it is a premium location and prices has to be higher but the portions does not have to be unreasonably smaller for some items .In comparison ,there are other premium places with same prices but decent portions ,that is what i meant.
The music is fine if one wants to dance and appreciate that you keep it in check .People come to dine in to talk to each other ,the music should have mid level volume to be more like music but never too much so people can communicate with each other( staff can take orders without getting too close to face) which is the whole purpose of dine in .However ,i do understand that there are sometimes when it is packed so the staff could forget to do everything at one time.
I did not mean that your restaurant staff is untrained for emergency situations but improvements can be made dealing with flooding and evacuation time, just describing my experience how they reacted . Half of the staff did seem in control and calm while the other half confused.I am glad it was not a big emergency and everyone was safe in the end. I appreciate your time and response.I am updating my review by one...

Read moreThis review is for local and non - local patrons. I am utterly disappointed by my visit to the most hyped up restaurant in Toronto. I would give zero rating if I could. Probably attracted by its top notch ambience, this is the most hyped up restaurant in Toronto. To begin with food is nowhere comparable to indian food. I agree probably food is not too spicy keeping in mind indian and non indian audience but most importantly essence of indian food is it's taste which brings authenticity. This restaurant does not do justice to indian taste. Food is not at all tasty. Guess what - fancy names and good presentation of menu items is not sufficient to bring taste to food. I ordered vegetarian biryani which was no less than vegetable pulao. Probably my home cooked food is better? Secondly, it is a pricey affair. While taking order, staff does not clearly state that each item along with main course will be charged extra. For example, raita is chargeable if you order it with biryani. And be cautious - staff would ask you in a way you won't realize it will be charged extra. Next comes alcohol! Do not order cocktails here! Super creative names and ingredients are tempting but I strongly believe they can do a lot better! Cocktails do not have enough alcohol level (compared to other restaurants and bars) and are super mild. I will not use the word 'watered down' but extremely close. And yes an extra shot of alcohol in a cocktail is $9.99! How unreasonable is this? Lastly, most restaurants charge gratuity when they serve a table with more than 5 people. But here, gratuity is included in their bill itself so you have no option but to pay it even if you are a party of 2. Very unfair! I really do not care if this restaurant is rated 4.5 on Uber Eats and is considered the top Indian restaurant in GTA as per owner but definitely NOT worth it. There are a lot better restaurants on Gerard st with authentic indian taste! I am ashamed of how this restaurant is depicting Indian culture - with indian mentality of leaving no opportunity to charge prices at...
