Rarely do I go back to re-review a place when I have a bad experience, but congratulations Tango Palace, you've made the list!
To be honest I don't expect much from barista staff. If they don't manage to set themselves or the milk on fire while steaming my latte, I'll consider it good service. Sadly, the only thing steaming behind the counter today was this muppet and his attitude.
Without even a "howdy-do" we found ourselves in a sovietesque interrogation about what we could possibly want in his establishment. A question of "what tea would you recommend" was met with a sarcastic "it depends on your palette". We came here for some hot water, dried leaves and roasted beans... He could have suggested the worst item on the menu and we would gawked at his superior knowledge.
Now credit where credit is due, the drinks were prepared quickly. Which was perfect as we no longer felt welcome in this bourgeois palace of servitude. I dropped fifty cents in the ironically named "good karma" tip jar not because I thought this god among men was going to change the world with his unique take on customer service. No, it was because I felt sorry that he had to deal with common folk like us on a daily basis. The horror!
I'd like to think the other staff make up for his lack of service, but I certainly won't be back anytime soon...
Read moreExquisite Cafe. Try anything, you'll love it. Never want to leave.
An institution in Toronto coffee, this is what decades of experience and attention to craft looks like. You can taste the character in every cup. Excellent, friendly service; spacious, understated decor; comfortable seating for group and solo patrons both indoors and out with two patios and a large, open interior seating area. The back patio in particular is like a secret grove of ivy and old growth trees, highly recommended.
There is not a single weak item on the menu, every drink is well honed from practice into a well rounded ideal version from the classics to the niche. The menu is tight and thoughtfully designed with a representative drink in every area you'd want in a cafe, small enough that a single barista can master the whole menu without being so small that you wouldn't find a new favorite no matter what your tastes.
And while you're happily drinking, the food is excellent whether you want a quick snack, a well made sandwich or just a baked treat. Everything is well made and balanced.
In summary, this place has been here longer than some of you have been alive and it's my dearest hope it's around long after I'm gone. It's worth a visit or a dedicated weekly trip for the good...
Read moreLovely, peaceful and soothing environment, until a trio of narcissistic influencers sailed in â dressed on point for the runway in mid-day sweltering summer weather â to raise the volume of nonsensical chatter and swan about to harvest eyeballs. Their orders were taken with abject flattery and attention and were served promptly, while mine, which was ordered long before and was never announced as being ready, lingered on the counter. After 20 minutes without being served, I had to fight the fluttering swans to retrieve my overlooked iced coffee. When I did, the baristess who was busy attending to the swans acknowledged my order had been sitting there for some time. Knowing that, wouldnât it have behooved her to make an announcement that it was ready? Or simply bring it to my table? And why did the friendly barista who took my order ask if I wanted cream or milk in it (cream, please) since neither were added to it? In my mind, service doesnât end when an order is taken and prepared, but only when the customer receives it, prepared to order. I would like the tip I added to the check...
