It pains me to give this place a low rating as I adored the cafe. It is one of my favourite spots so far I've explored. So for atmosphere, it's a top 5 star... for drinks, maybe a 2 at best.
Right before heading to dinner in Leslieville, we stopped by Bobbette & Belle to admire what looks to be some wonderful treats and cakes. This cafe is just so nice... bright, sunny, and wonderfully airy. The aesthetic is just peaceful, a touch of glam, a dip of rustic, and yet accessible to anyone walking in the door... whether it be your first time or your 25th.
The shelves are stocked with many varieties of Sloane Teas which just adds a great pop of colour on the walls with its unique wonderful tins. The back area of the store is just filled with cake pedestals and platters of cakes, cookies, buns, and bars. The arrival of families constantly stream in and the staff here handles each one quite quickly and easily. We decided to try their drinks first before possibly taking something to go for after our dinner.
Sloane Tea - Hot water and barely any flavour. This was a large cup with only a single tea bag. According to the Sloane boxes, the tea bag can only flavour 12 oz and this cup was much much larger. It would have been right to use 2 tea bags. 2/5
Chai Tea Latte - Oh this was overly sweet... huge sugar hit with minimal spice and tea flavour. It was creamy and hot but that was the only positive. 2/5
Unfortunately the drinks were really bad and didn't give us confidence to drop $3 per macaron or purchase a cake slice. Perhaps we can try another time again if we're in the area but I dont think we'll be...
Read moreI dont usually leave reviews. However, I thought my recent experience with B&B deserved a review. There are things that well run companies do that set them apart from the rest and this is a prime example of how B&B is easily the best bake shop in Toronto.
I recently purchased my favorite cake (chocolate raspberry) for a small get together. Once we cut into the cake and started eating it we noticed something was slightly off although it still tasted great. The issue seemed to be that instead of a chocolate/vanilla icing that would normally accompany this cake it was topped with a hazelnut icing.
The next day I placed a call to the store and to let them know, I thought they got the wrong icing on the cake. I didnt demand anything nor was I upset, I just wanted to provide some feedback. However, without me prompting they immediately apologized and assured me that a $50 gift certificate would be mailed out asap.
I thought at this point, this was great customer service. But they went even further and this is what sets them apart. Within 2 to 3 days I received the gift card as promised but what impressed me even more was the HAND WRITTEN note that came along with it. It seems like a small thing but when an individual takes the time to write a customer a personal note it speaks volumes about how the company feels about their clients and its clear they actually care.
You guys were already my favorite cake shop but now you have a loyal customer for life....
Read moreI rarely write reviews, but I feel compelled to share how deeply disappointed I was with my recent experience at Bobbette & Belle.
For my milestone birthday, I placed a special order for a strawberry shortcake. I called ahead to specifically request that the cake be moist — something that was incredibly important to me. Instead of reassurance, I was met with a dismissive and condescending response. The person I spoke to brushed off my concern, insisting they'd “never had complaints” and that their cakes are “always moist.” That should have been a red flag.
Unfortunately, the reality was even worse than I feared. On the night of my birthday, I was shocked by how dry the cake was — more like stale bread than cake. There was barely any filling, and what little there was did nothing to help. If they had tried to make it drier, I don’t think they could have succeeded more.
I took one bite and couldn’t bring myself to have more. What hurt most was seeing slices left untouched on my guests’ plates. A celebration I had looked forward to was overshadowed by a truly underwhelming cake.
If you’re considering ordering from Bobbette & Belle, I’d strongly advise you to think twice. For the price, you deserve something far better than what I received. I won’t...
