Thai Room King West — Restaurant in Toronto

Quite simply the worst Thai food I've ever had and the second worst restaurant food I've ever had.

They were offering 2 for 1 Pad Thai and spring rolls on Uber Eats. Food arrived very quickly. That's the end of any positives from the order.

The Pad Thai was ketchup and rice noodles. When restaurants don't make their own tamarind sauce they cheat by using ketchup and this place loaded it on. Because it absorbs quickly the noodles had basically become a brick, clumped together and weren't even completely covered. There wasn't a lot of chicken either, and by not a lot I mean about 3-4 pieces per serving. The spring rolls were boring but inoffensive, however if they hadn't been 2 for 1 I'd have said even for restaurant prices that is steep. I'm fairly certain they were pre-made frozen rolls that you can get a box of 20 for $5 for, but I'm not 100% on that so I'll leave it at not great. Food was so bad I threw the second Pad Thai in the trash and only ate first one because I hadn't eaten all day and it was almost 6pm. If I were this restaurant, I'd be ashamed food this bad was associated with my name.

Odd side bar: Ordered through Uber Eats but delivery was handled by restaurant. Because of this, no tracking or rating (other than about order speed) was available, and once clicked on, it disappeared and didn't appear again. When I got in touch with Uber, they said no credit could be issued and to call the restaurant. I didn't want more food from here considering how bad the initial order was, and I didn't want to gouge a local business. Even if they are a small chain and the food was disgusting.

Anyhow, avoid at all...

I used to love this restaurant but not anymore -- the food and service is atrocious. A few days ago I ordered two dishes online and when they didn't arrive after more than an hour, I called the restaurant. The woman on the phone told me the order had gone out but she couldn't get a hold of her delivery driver and asked me to call back in 15 mins if it wasn't at my door. It didn't arrive, so I called back and spoke to another employee who again told me his driver wasn't responding. This employee said he'd track down the driver and call me back after in a few minutes, he never did. I had to chase the staff who seemed inexperienced in dealing with order issues. After two hours of not getting my food, and numerous phone calls, I told them I wanted to cancel my order, the employee apologised and told me they were going to credit my account. Five minutes later, my food arrived. The driver refused to believe I had a credit and told me the food was remade 20 minutes ago (which was a lie) and I had to pay half of the bill. Annoyed, frustrated, and hungry, I did but I really shouldn't have. My order was FREEZING COLD and the curry dish was nearly translucent and tasted like oil not curry -- I threw the food out. Absolutely appalled by the food and service! This was my neighbourhood gem but now...

This review is regarding the last two orders from the King West location.

Over the past years, Thai Room King West has been one of my staples for Friday evening take away. I have always enjoyed the taste of the food, and generally would either pick up or have the order delivered. Generally speaking, orders went well from the online ordering to pick up or delivery.

There are two particular dishes that I usually order, green chicken curry and Avacodo Peanut Stir Fry. Past dishes were tasty and flavourful, curry especially on point, however, the last two orders, the dishes were sub standard to say the least.

I understand that shrinkification is everywhere, which I accept, but regarding food quality, if the food quality remained on par to past orders, I would not be concerned. That being said, this is not the case. The green curry chicken was horrible. There was hardly any curry taste as the curry was watered to the point of not being creamy. There was hardly any chicken too. On one order, the free bowl of rice was missing from the order.

I was reminded of this restaurant as I recently received an email with a discount code. Unless they improve their food quality, I don't feel that I will be ordering...
