Food - Absolutely incredible. I started coming here for their Burger Mondays (like it was religion!) but now they also do Vegetarian Tuesdays, Chicken Sandwich Wednesdays, often Fish Fridays, and weekend brunch.
Their menu is well-curated fusion from so many different cultures - Americas (North, Central, South) meets Asia (Japanese, Korean, Indonesia, ++). Burgers, sandwiches, tacos, bowls, and more. The fries and whatever magical seasoning they put on there are highly recommended but you can't go wrong with their salad either. There is a daily changing special you can see on their Instagram. The chocolate stout cake is delicious, moist, and not too rich or overly sweet.
They do rotating local craft beer on tap and a great liquor shelf for cocktails too. I think there's something for everyone here. Lovely non-alcoholic selection too!
Service - The staff are fantastic, friendly, and efficient! They're very helpful if you're feeling indecisive (or just curious!), and can describe to you the menu items and drinks very well.
Parking/Location - Green P lots, Danforth, neighbourhood street parking. Between Coxwell and Greenwood TTC stations (few minutes walk from each). Very easy to find and get to.
Seating - Indoor and outdoor seating (Thanks CafeTO). Great for parties of 1-4, maybe up to 6 comfortably at the long harvest tables that are just shared seating. Super cosy atmosphere. Great for a casual date or solo. They don't take reservations but they are worth the wait! They are very popular at prime dinnertime (1900hrs).
I have been coming here now for over ten years. This is my absolute most favourite restaurant. It's truly a local gem run and staffed by very...
Read moreI recently visited The Wren with high expectations, fueled by its impressive Google reviews. My wife and I were excited to indulge in what we hoped would be a culinary delight, especially after hearing about the friendly and efficient staff and the unique retro interior.
Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by the staff, and I must commend their quick service. The retro ambiance added a charming touch to the experience, and we were eager to dive into the menu.
However, our excitement quickly waned when we realized there was no printed drink menu. Instead, we were instructed to snap a picture of the board at the front of the pub. While this was a minor inconvenience, it was forgivable given the quirky atmosphere.
The real disappointment came when our burgers arrived. Despite the promising exterior, the bun was noticeably stale, detracting from the overall taste and enjoyment of the meal. As someone who appreciates a good burger, I was left underwhelmed and dissatisfied.
In comparison to other establishments I've visited, the quality of the burger fell well below my expectations. While I wanted to award The Wren a higher rating based on its ambiance and service, the subpar food experience cannot be overlooked.
Regrettably, I can only give The Wren a rating of 2 stars. I hope this feedback serves as constructive criticism, and I encourage the management to address the issue of food quality to ensure a more consistent and enjoyable dining experience for...
Read moreThe Wren is everything you want in a gastropub and more - fantastic food, great selection of excellent beer wine and whiskey that vary often, fast and friendly service, nice place to sit inside and also outside when the weather is nice. Highly recommended!
The Wren has become a popular staple along the stretch of Danforth that runs from Greenwood to Woodbine. Of the many gastropubs in the area, this one seems to have emerged as the most popular for the reasons noted above. It's almost always busy but not usually in a way that's overwhelming - they seem to be able to manage their high customer load, which is great!
The Wren is a perfect place to meet up with friends or for a date night. I have found it's not as well-suited to families with young children as other places along Danforth - no kids menu and if I recall correctly they don't have booster seats/chairs in there (that may have changed though, if you wanted to check you could always phone them). Also you can't order takeout for a time in the future, you just kind of have to phone and they send the order to the kitchen right away - not a big deal at all and it's understandable for a place as busy as they are, just good to...
