Thai Onzon — Restaurant in Town of Cochrane

I was googling restaurants in Cochrane when Thai Onzon came up and at first I was a bit skeptical because historically towns don't always have the most authentic Asian cuisine. However, all the reviews were stellar so decided to give it a try. Its a vegetarian restaurant with vegan options. I am neither a vegetarian or vegan and still enjoyed my food very much!

I love how the restaurant is actually a cozy house, and that its run by two sisters. I liked how they put a little bit of background about their restaurant and themselves in the menu. The menu was expansive, and included a good variety of different appetizers, noodle/rice dishes, curries, etc.

My friend and I both got Thai Iced Tea to drink ($4.50) and it was soooo good! I ordered the pad see ew and she got the red curry. It was loaded with a variety of veggies and both dishes were flavoured well. One thing to note is that their prices are very reasonable ($12 a dish). I want to come back and try some...

It's been a while, but we had take out from there a few times. It wasn't bad, (but the food being edible shouldn't be your 3 star, it should be assumed) but it was underwhelming in terms of meal flavour/enjoyability and value. Very cool presentation on some of their products (well not on the level of places like Big Catch, but that's in SE Calgary, but still far more intricate than one might be accustomed to for North American food), so if that's what you are looking for in a meal, I would recommend checking it out.

However, if meal enjoyment is more important to you, I would recommend requesting your food made vegetarian at the other Thai restaurant, over going to Thai Onzon... Or driving to Calgary for...

This place is run by two sisters and that fact alone makes it worth a visit. The place is deceptive. It looks old, grubby an d run down from the outside, and peaceful, well-put with attention to detail on the inside. It's a small place with cozy seating. The food- the calamari was amazing. We ordered no. 30 and 41. Any place that asks me if I am a vegan or a vegetarian is the best kind. So they win brownie points for that. 30 was 4/5. 41 was 3/5. It was supposed to really hot but wasnt. so we asked for chilli paste to go with it and that made it better. The dessert was subpar though. I felt guilty for those $6. When in Cochrane,it is a good...
