We went there with a group of 12 friends and family. (Five different families). When we asked if the restaurant had room for us, we were told that we would have to eat at different tables. One family of 3 took a seat (at a table for 4) and my daughter joined them. The waitress then informed me that my daughter could not sit there if she was going to be on my bill. She insisted that each table had to be on one bill or the table would not get the food at the same time. There would have been 5 bills in total. She then went off and talked to a man, in a red shirt, who raised his hands in the air and rolled his eyes. Not sure if this was directed at us. We were then told that she could move 3 tables together, but the bills had to be on one receipt. When my wife said they would be different bills, she again said no. I decided we would leave and go to another restaurant. The waitress then told her that "She would have to put the tables back where they were or the boss would yell at her". At this time we left the restaurant. The friends and my daughter decided to stay. After we left, the waitress came to our daughters table and said "They won't get a seat at another restaurant and if we returned she would not seat us". I can assure you I will never enter The Herring Pub ever again. Also to the waitress, we did get a seat at The Seabreeze Restaurant and the service and food was amazing. You should probably ask to shadow their waitress for a few days to see what good customer service looks like and how to...

Sunday, July 13th I brought my parents on a day trip to St Andrews. A trip I take annually. The town is beautiful. The whale watching is something everyone should do at least once. And we finished up with a dinner at Red Herring.
The hostess at the door was a sweetheart. The baked haddock was delicious, albeit I wish I had a second piece it was so good. Mom's scallops were great too she says.
The waitress sniffed our pop to find the root beer. That was really weird.
The reason for the 1 star rating is that we do not appreciate having our money stolen, much less having my mom's integrity and intelligence questioned.
My mom insisted on paying. The waitress brought a debit machine that didn't work. She went to swap it out and brought it to mom, ready to tap. What we notice Monday was that the waitress helped herself and added a $15 tip to mom's bill.
Mom called Monday to speak with a manager and was not allowed to speak with one. She heard a male voice in the background say "tell her the manager steped out and the supervisor is too busy to talk". They essentially accused my mom of being senile and pressing a $15 tip button, even though the waitress said, "it's ready, just tap".
I'm not telling anyone not to go for the great food. I'm telling everyone to bring cash if they go and not to trust the wait staff as they've proven to be dishonest...
Read moreJust okay. Beer selection was great but service was spread too thin for such a busy place (server seemed very frazzled and overwhelmed...1 waitress was not enough for how busy this place was).
Food was very average (not worth the price) and took a very long time (we read the sign noting the small kitchen, but you have to hold yourself to some expectations). Several tables that came after us got their food faster. We ordered fish cakes, the sandwich of the day and a whistle dog combo. Took about 45 mins.
Even taking the touristy factor into consideration, I wouldn't recommend going here for food or if you have somewhere to be at a certain time.
Don't do these 2 star reviews often but believe the restaurant could use the feedback. There is so much potential in this location.
Also...can't understand why in the world The restaurant would use up so much precious space with a pool table and games at the entry. Throw in 5-6 tables here and you've just doubled your interior capacity (for rainy and hot days).
If you're not in a hurry and are looking for a great selection of NB Brews by the water, this is not...
