They do not take their vegan and dairy free options seriously. If you are truly vegan, or celiac, or have any serious allergies to commonly found ingredients in ice cream etc, I'd prepare myself for tons of cross contamination of the regular flavors. Our neice had to tell the girls at the counter to stop using the same scoop for their ice cream. They were rude to her when she tried to explain why. Then clearly it didnt matter because everything was cross contaminated already (something our niece was obviously unaware of). So it doesn't matter if it's "vegan friendly Gluten friendly, or otherwise. It's nonsense. There is no such thing.
They do not take allergies seriously either. My neice went there and after her mom explained to them 3 times (while the server was being dismissive and cutting her off) that her child had SEVERE allergies to certain ingredients and explained to them in great detail what they were, they still didn't follow basic foodsafe procedures to ensure that her food wasn't cross contaminated with ingredients she is allergic to. All the while explaining that its safe and free of the concerend ingredients. And what happened? Cross-contamination! She had a SEVERE reaction, passed out on the pavement outside, had to have 2 shots of her epi pen to gain consciousness, vomited and then was ill the rest of the day. Very traumatic for her. Steer clear if you have any allergies, or are a true vegan. What the hell is vegan friendly? They don't care sadly. Our Niece could have died. That's how serious her allergies are. This place advertised their vegan and dairy free options, and that is why her mom took her there for a treat....something that is very rare for her due to her allergies. If they had not advertised these options AND reassured our niece that there weren't any of the ingredients that could kill her in that ice cream, our niece would have never taken her child there to begin with. Be very careful people. This is life and death for some. And they don't seem to take that very seriously. Their reply also shows their dismissiveness to the seriousness of advertising items that are free of these ingredients. At the time of my neices visit, there was no such verbiage as 'gluten FRIENDLY ' etc. Our Niece was right and she knows 100% what her kid is allergic to and explained in great detail those details. Again, she was reasured it was ok. They were wrong. Her child's severe reaction is...
Read moreTLDR - will not return, worst customer service
The flavor was very good. However, the value is poor as their portions are extremely small, even when compared to other gelato places in the Greater Vancouver area. But the worst aspect is the customer service.
The first girl who greeted us was very friendly. We ordered a kid's size and asked the server if it's possible to have it in a cone but upside down in a cup. She said, 'No problem.' Most ice cream shops in Vancouver do this, especially for kids, and if they need to charge extra, they tell us.
Then another girl came from the back and asked us if we knew we had to pay for the cup. I said no, as they didn't inform us. I told her if that's the case, we'll just get them in a cup. She gave us a disapproving look, as if we were trying to be cheap. After we paid for the ice cream, she scooped a portion from our ice cream that the friendlier girl had scooped and put the portion back into the ice cream container. While this was happening, the first friendlier girl had a look on her face as if this happends quite often.
I'm not sure if that 2nd rude girl was a manager or the owner. Other people in this review section seem to have had similar expereince with this person.
Even if you decide to give this place a try, if you see this girl at the counter,...
Read moreThis was the worst experience I have ever have. It is NOT dairy free when they say it was. All of it is cross-contaminated. My daughter and I went there and I explained to the girls 3 times how severe her allergies are. After 3 attempts of getting the staff to redo her order because they used the same scoop as reg ice cream or held ice-cream and non dairy together in the same hand... my daughter took 1 lick and INSTANTLY went into allergic shock. She started screaming, crying, then after we gave her 2 doses of medicine, she passed out on the sidewalk, then vomited everywhere, until hours later her body was free from it. When I explained to the girls how severe it was, they kept cutting me off and acting like it wasn't important. The fact I had to explain to them and make them re-do the order 3 times proves that. It has nothing to do with how much it costs or the flavor, its the fact that they offer "dairy-free and vegan" options, when clearly it is not. I suggest you re-train your staff on the health and safety of each and every one of your customers, not just the general public. It is very rare we get to ever treat her because of all her allergies, and then the one time we do, this is what happens....
