HACKED AND MONEY STOLEN - DO NOT BUY FROM WEBSITE

I’ve ordered from Republica a bunch of times before with no issues and really enjoy their roasts but my last order was a mess. Paid through their website using PayPal and the money went to some random business name I’ve never heard of. A few days later they emailed me saying they never got the funds and basically told me to contact PayPal to try to get the money back.

Their explanation was that it was a “PayPal technical issue” and that I should always double check the payee name before sending money. That doesn’t sit right with me. If I’m checking out on your official website I shouldn’t have to second guess whether the payment is actually going to you. Their site was either hacked, their PayPal setup was compromised, or they misconfigured it. How can I check out on YOUR website, have a receipt showing 4 lbs of roasted coffee, but the seller name on PayPal is some random name not associated to them? In addition to that, when they contacted me about my order they accidentally CC'd other people who were most likely affected by the same issue.

Their official responses:

"Unfortunately, due to a technical issue with PayPal’s payment system, some payments were mistakenly authorized to an account not associated with us. In some cases, transactions have shown the recipient's name as “Toko Maria” or “Toko Putri.” Please note that Republica Coffee never received these funds."

"We wanted to clarify that due to a recent technical issue with PayPal, some payments were mistakenly authorized to accounts not associated with Republica Coffee. If your transaction shows any recipient other than Republica Coffee Roasters Inc., the payment did not reach us. As a result, your current order has been cancelled, and you can place a new order."

Instead of owning it they downplayed it, canceled my order, and asked me to order again!? I'm still fighting with PayPal to dispute the original charge with no success yet.

Finally decided to try them out, at my second visit, because I was desperate for a coffee beverage. I am happy to see that offer a traditional macchiato it's one of the best drinks to test the skills of the shop and the barista. You get to really taste the roast of the coffee and the extraction. It is not easy to make because the espresso need to be spot on and the milk also needed to frothed perfectly, if any one of them wasn't done right, the drink suffers. Turned out the roast of the coffee was too dark, and the coffee was also over-extracted; the milk wasn't frothed to the sweet point to cover up the bitterness. The macchiato was weak, thin, and bitter. Overall not a drink I would come back for, nor any of their coffee because the roast is too dark to my liking.

They're on the pricy side too, at $3.85 for a macchiato and close to $5 for a cappuccino. The price is higher than or on par with the top notch third wave coffee shops in downtown Vancouver. So, unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend.

One thing they did right and I appreciated, was that they are protecting the customers by wearing masks. This makes me comfortable to go in and try their drinks, even...

After buying beans at various stores I realized the only way to get proper, fresh ones was from a local roaster. Republica came up and I thought it was worth the short drive to try them out.

After parking in Fort Langley I actually had to pull up their location on Maps to see that they're down a little alleyway. It's not a hidden location by any means but I have walked past several times in the past and never knew it was there. Tucked away is more fitting.

Walking in I saw a good selection of beans to choose from, and appreciated the clear labeling on them. Good variety, and they were very fresh (roasted this week). I also ordered a drink to try that out with them.

The whole experience was good, and I expect that I'll go back for another pound soon. What struck me about the inside though was just the feeling of it - it wasn't modern, it wasn't rustic. It was almost sort of dreary. I have visited all manor of coffee shops small and large, big town and small town over the years. This one in particular struck me as....unfinished? Just an odd lingering feeling.

The beans once I got them home were wonderful - smelled and tasted very fresh. Absolutely well...

I happened to be having a lunch at one of my favourite places in Chilliwack, Cultivate Cafe and on my way out I spotted some coffee beans from Repubica Roasters….I was curious and did a quick search and thanks to a few of the reviewers on google I was able to ascertain that the coffee beans might be worth trying. I’ve tried local roasters before and not had much luck so had been ordering coffee online. When I picked up the coffee it had the roast date on it and was just a week old - that was great!. I purchased the Swiss water decaf espresso beans. When I opened the bag, great coffee aroma (as you’d expect!) and the beans were not dry and not oily…just right. I was delighted by the crema and the coffee was bold but smooth and it made a great latte. I am really happy to find a local Canadian roaster….thank-you, thank-you….will be buying this from now on!

I have only visited their Langley location which is quite cozy and would be nice on a cold winters day; during the summer there are a few picnic tables outside to bask in the sun. The reason they get 5 stars is for their cold brew coffee. I have tried a few different cold brew coffee over the years, including the recently released Kicking Horse cold brews, but nothing compares to the product by Republica. Their cold brew is the smoothest available with no bitter taste at all. I am a big fun of black coffee so I tested this stuff on my Mother who hates black coffee and even she thought it was awesome. The product seems to be available in more niche bakeries now which is nice as you don't have to go to Fort Langley to buy it. The hot coffee and the wholesale beans are pretty good too.

I recently visited Republica Cafe, and it was an absolute delight. I tried their maple latte, scones, and muffin, and everything exceeded my expectations. The maple latte had the perfect balance of sweetness and richness, making each sip feel comforting. The scones were warm, buttery, and flaky, with just the right amount of sweetness. The muffin was equally impressive—moist, flavorful, and fresh out of the oven. On top of the great food, the service was friendly and efficient, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It's clear that this cafe takes pride in its offerings. I’ll definitely be returning to try more of their menu! Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy spot with delicious treats and top-notch service.
