I don't even know where to start. This place thinks its a Michelin star restaurant popping out pizzas lesser in quality than Famoso.
"We politely decline any modifications to our menu?" Really? Based on your recent string of reviews you may want to adjust your attitude. It's not that big of a deal to sub one sauce for another, unless you're just reheating pre-prepared meals. Add a scoop of marinara instead of pesto? NO SUBSTITUTIONS! We will never return after a simple substitution was declined. I'm not talking about "no garlic in my sauce please," but a simple ingredient not to be added to the final dish- a modification that would have been so simple.
We ordered the calamari and it tasted like rubber bands- our server refused to take it off our bill, but apologized. Her manager/the owner obviously handcuffed her into this. Whoever the lady with the black curly hair is (manager? owner?) walks around with such a sense of arrogance, and the way she speaks to her staff is appalling. Let me give you some unsolicited advice on how to avoid shuttering your doors within the next year:
1.) Speak kindly to your staff all the time but especially when customers are within earshot. Either that or have the lady with the curly black hair stay as far away from your staff/customers as possible.
2.) Stop acting like you're a Michelin starred restaurant and accommodate customers simple menu modifications. Cioppinos is one of the best rated Italian restaurants in the world and they even accommodated a very similar menu request on a visit earlier this year. And this place is no Cioppinos.
3.) If a customer doesn't like their meal, apologize it isn't to their liking, and offer a new one of equal or lesser value free of charge. There are only so many "first time" customers, and it seems you're p*ssing them all off.
Don't. P*ss. Off. Your. Customers.
I'd suggest instead that you focus on making peoples first experiences to your establishment a lot more positive than mine was. I get that there are unreasonable customers, but dang- I'm hardly one of those, and I doubt the dozens of reviews nearly exactly like mine are all just "unreasonable" customers.
4.) Consider increasing your portion sizes for some pasta dishes.
5.) If you drop the ball on service -BADLY- because you're understaffed (you can likely solve this staffing problem by solving point 1,) apologize and offer a free dessert, a complementary appetizer or maybe a small gift from the "mercato?"
Jon Taffer of Bar Rescue is not someone I admire, but he makes a good point re: repeat customers. I would recommend you google "Jon Taffer First Time Customers" and watch the...
Read moreI visited this restaurant twice within the month of April with very different visits, first the good:
April 11, 2019 I came to this restaurant with my grandfather as he had previously dined here with a good experience. I had the gnocchi and he had the scallops, - my gnocchi was amazing, the flavour, texture everything was spot on, he too enjoyed his scallops. We were served by a man (possibly an owner/manager?) with prompt and friendly service.
I later went home raving about this restaurant to my parents, as my grandpa lived in Fort Langely and Mangia E Scappa was within walking distance I knew we would visit again.
April 27, 2019 My parents, grandfather and I came here again for dinner. It was busier this time but we had made a reservation. We shared the calamari to start, which was fresh and delicious. Unfortunately the second course more than missed the mark, my dad had the carbonara, it arrived to the table as if it were cooked for 1 minute in water, he even told the waitress, "I like al dente, this is not even close" the server handled the situation well, took his plate back and returned about 10 minutes later with a new bowl, although the pasta was cooked this time there was little to no flavour and you could see the egg had cooked as if it were chicken fried rice. I ordered the gnocchi (because it was so delicious the first time) and it was hard as a rock, not even close to being cooked properly. My mom had the cannelloni and she too wasn't wild about it. My grandfather was the only one who enjoyed his pasta dish. Although the server was friendly and it obviously was not her fault, it felt as though nothing was done to make up for this experience: My dad didn't enjoy his replacement meal, i didn't get close to finishing my gnocchi - no manager or cook came to apologize for what had happened and no food was taken off the bill. When 3/4 dishes are under cooked and are lacking flavour, it is hard to come back from that. I also noticed a sign on the door advertising a job opening in the kitchen...
I'm sorry but I will not...
Read moreI was really excited to come for my sisters birthday. Walking into the place was nice and cozy, perfect for this cold snap… we ordered 2 dishes to share and 2 alcoholic drinks. The tortillini pasta was good, but the pizza was extremely lack luster, and did not come with marinara sauce (which in hind sight, that wasn’t listed as an ingredient, but to me pizza comes with sauce otherwise it’s just cheese bread…) she brought us marinara sauce which made it more edible. Then the drinks came, my sisters was missing the soda so it was basically just 3 shots in 1 glass and for people who don’t drink it was disgusting. Not to mention it came out looking like a shot of muddy water with an extremely dried up slice of orange on a stemless wine glass. We requested soda and our server kind of looked at us funny as if to imply we were incorrect that the drink was off. Once the soda was added the drink was palatable. My drink, the red sangria was so pungant and tangy that I could not drink it. It has a strong flavor of grapefruit (which I’m allergic to acidic fruits) I tried to get it down but I couldn’t. The only fruit that was in the drink itself was slice oranges (but looked like grapefruit) at the end of our meal I sheepishly said to our waiter that I was unable to drink my sangria due to the acidic fruits used. She argued with me that it’s not grapefruit but likely lemon, to which is said, ok either way it’s too acidic for me and I can’t drink it. She then brought the bill, which included, the 2 gross drinks and the Mariana sauce. I understand paying for the marina sauce and one of the drinks since my sister was actually able to get most of it down, but my drink, a $13 drink that I did not have more the 1 sip of was still on the bill! I questioned the server as to why I needed to pay for it and she said it’s because they don’t cover things just because someone doesn’t like it and changes their mind.
Long story short I would not come back and i recommend avoiding their drinks altogether if you do go and don’t expect any help from...
