I bought an ice cream sandwich here, and asked if they have water. I can’t believe they charged me $2 for literally giving me a paper cup of water.
Edit #1: changed from 2 stars rating to 1 star, for the attitude of response from the owner. I have never seen poorer customer service than this. If I go into a gas station or Starbucks or Thierry to buy water I'd be well informed what I was paying for. Why not put “$2 filtered tap water poured by above minimum wage staff” on the menu board then? Absolutely ridiculous.
Edit #2: Tanya - my original rating was 2 stars and it was not merely over the $2 that I paid for the water - it was the LACK OF COMMUNICATION from your staff about how much it would cost until after I paid and left just to realized I was charged without being told. With that said, I have no problem supporting local businesses because I am a frequent patron of other non-chain businesses on Granville Island. I have no issue paying for water if only your staff could just give me a heads up about how much that will cost before rushing off to pour me the cup of water, or I would have made an effort to walk back to my car to get my water bottle which I forgot to take with me. But hey, I'm just an angry, unreasonable customer for asking for water when buying your products, and it's totally wrong of me to even leave a review over this. I changed my rating to a 1 star only because of your rude response previously (which you have obviously deleted) and to give me a whole lecture of how businesses are run on Granville Island. Frankly, I've never encountered any other businesses (that are also eco-conscious and eco-friendly) on Granville Island with the same attitude and level of customer service as you. Their compassionate attitude towards customers is the main reason why I became a regular customer of those stores for their products...

puffy cheese pillow = $5.50 - lemon cream scone = $5.50 - pain au chocolat = $5.75 - double baked pistachio croissant = $7.50 - blueberry bread pudding crumble pie = $4.50 -
Imagine walking around on Granville Island, and you're suddenly captivated by the aroma of steamy hot pastries, fresh out of the oven. I don't think anything can beat that! 👌
At A Bread Affair, you will find a selection of delicious classics like their pain au chocolat 🥐, or more unique seasonal items like their blueberry crumble pie! 🫐 Not only that, they also make many sourdoughs and other loaves of bread 🍞 in house. If you're too hungry to wait until you get home, you can pick up one of their fresh sandwiches to go for a nice, quick bite! 🥪
I really enjoyed all of the pastries I tried, but the lemon cream scone really stood out for me. The lemon flavour was perfectly balanced with the butteriness of the scone. The little pockets of cream cheese added a nice bit of textural variation too. 🍋
(Btw, the double baked pistachio croissant is only available on the weekends, so definitely keep that in mind! 🤫)
Thank you to A Bread Affair for this wonderful opportunity! I can't wait to be...
Read moreWould not recommend. The food here was not freshly made. The sandwiches were just lying there and they were out of some. And they just heat up the already premade one for you. Plus one of our family members is vegan and ordered a falafel wrap but was given some wrap with cheese. When we went back to tell them about it we didn’t get a proper apology and were told the worker just grabbed whatever wrap they saw. They then reheated a falafel wrap that had already been heated once and gave it to us. Overall the food didn’t taste great, wasn’t very fresh, and the service wasn’t great.
Edit in response to the business reply: I appreciate that the business responded, but unfortunately their reply does not reflect what actually happened. At no point did anyone check in with us before we left, nor did I ever say I was happy with how things were handled. The falafel wrap was indeed reheated, and giving a vegan customer a wrap with cheese—without a real apology or effort to make it right—is not okay. I stand by my original review based on my...
