Overall, it was a very great experience. Staff were also very friendly, and patient in explaining the food items (it was my first time trying German cuisine) and gave great recommendations on best sellers. They're located inside Granville Island Public Market. Currently there is free parking as an initiative to support local businesses during COVID-19. There's also a very cozy social distanced heated patio outside where you can enjoy the food.
Erdinger Weissbeir (5.3%) - A light and refreshing German Wheat beer.
Fried Sauerkraut Balls with Cream Cheese: super delicious and you must eat it fresh. Deep fried perfectly, and it's not greasy. The sauerkraut (fermented cabbage) is imported from Germany, and balances the creaminess of the balls.
Salted Pretzel: A bit too salty for me personally, as they use a generous amount of coarse salt, but that is just how salted pretzel's are made. This is also a best seller though (I saw a lot of people order this while I was waiting for my order), and the texture was great. The outside was chewy, and the inside was very soft.
Currywurst with French Fries: The curry ketchup flavour was delicious. Pork sausage was good too, not too salty.
Perogi Plate with Polish Sausage: Polish sausage was flavourful. The perogi's were bite-sized and deep fried. Generous portion.
Schnitzel Sandwich: deep friend pork cutlet on a kaiser bun and German mustard. Definitely eat this right away, its best served hot. Very filling as well.
Everything is basically paired with something slightly on the sour side (eg. Mustard, sauerkraut etc), which I think is a great combination, so it doesn’t get to “meaty”. It’s a refreshing...
Read moreThis is the stuff that we of eastern european descent live for. We were in Granville Public Market for just a few hours for dinner on our first night in the city and we're drawn to the comfort delights and available vegetarian options at Kaisereck.
My wife and I shared a bowl where they combined the 2 types of vegetarian perogies (Chedder and Potato, and Potato and Onion) topped with sour cream and carmelized onions. It was a decent first course in our self-guided dinner tour through the market. These perogies aren't deep fried so they have a nice healthier tasting housing for their insides. Good stuff!
Had we not had a plan to sample a lot of little things throughout the market, I definitely would have tried a version of one of their sausage plates using the available vegan Beyond Sausage which looked like a descent effort to make vegetarians feel like real people. ;)
Poutine is available too (though not sure if the grvy is vegetarian) and their pretzels with available cheese dip look pretty...
Read moreI was super unimpressed. Spent 10 mins waiting in line (no one in front of me) and then get told out of ALL the bread choices on the menu offered. The one bread that “makes” a decent panini, is $1 more. But the menu said build your own sandwich for $11.95. I did end up going across from them to the little Vietnamese place.
They also cross contaminate knives. So if you have food allergies. They cut the sandwiches with same knife for everyone unless you say otherwise. I’m allergic to mustard and while they squirted it on didn’t spread it with knife they assembled the toasted sandwich and cut the sandwiches in half with the same knife I guess for everyone.
Signage at the hot food side ain’t much better. Said perogies for $8.25 but it doesn’t say how many pieces no pics etc. given how popular the likes are this place could waste a lot of time to find out it’s not what you’re looking for.
Keep in mind. Most of Granville Island is high prices...
