I’m sad to be writing this review, as Apollonia has been a restaurant my family and I frequent often and have enjoyed visiting for many years.
On Saturday, we ordered a meal of two chicken slovakias and asked for the rice to be substituted with a side salad. When we got home, we found that there was no greek salad, we were missing a pita bread, and the garden salad was a disappointing box of lettuce with almost no dressing.
These couple issues are small, but we ultimately decided to call Apollonia as we were disappointed and, having been there many times before, we figured they would want to know and that it would be an easy fix. What we received on the phone was a masterclass in how NOT to handle customer support. There was no support to be had. The Apollonia employee, Paulie, was extremely confrontational, rude, dismissive, and abrasive. We were told "that you can’t sub the rice for a garden salad and still get the greek salad" . To be frank, this isn’t a big deal- there was clearly a miscommunication when we ordered and after a few pleasantries I would have expected that to be the end of the call. Instead, I was dumbfounded by how Paulie handled the conversation, spoke to us, and by her overall demeanour. She worked hard at trying to make me feel stupid for calling in, and accused me lying about receiving only one pita. She sarcastically and maliciously asked if I wanted her to go and tell the kitchen about the ‘disappointing' salad. I’ve never been more rudely and disrespectfully spoken to by an establishment before, and I came out of the call extremely frustrated and just a bit heartbroken, as up until now Apollonia had been one of our longtime " favourites " .
Now more than ever we need to treat each other with respect and kindness. Apollonia let us down tonight in a big way, and I cannot not support any business that treats the public this way.
There are so many businesses that need our support through these uncertain/ difficult times, and my family and I will now be taking our support for local businesses elsewhere. Apollonia, you need to do a much better job in your customer...
Read moreI had visited this place once before and it was fantastic. That was then...last night I returned for a second time. We ordered the food. Pizza was soooooooo salty we couldn’t even eat it. We let our server know. She said she will let the manager know. After a very long while she comes back n says “we have never had any issues with it so I cannot do anything for u”. I asked for the manager again. No show. Server came by again after another long while n says I guess I will just remove your plates. I said no we are waiting for the manager. Server then says it’s cos we added olives so that’s what happens when you add things to the pizza n leaves our table. What?! We wait wait wait still no manager. Our main entrees came. Pizza was still sitting at the table with 3 used side plates stacked up. No manager still n no service at all. Finally server comes again n says she will just remove it from the bill but while removing the plates still repeats its our issue cos we had added the olives so that’s what you get. Excuse me??? Throughout our dinner NO SERVICE. No water refill just nothing nobody came by our table. I then went up to the manager who wasn’t interested in talking cuz she was behind the bar playing with her phone n says she has been busy. Sure ooook. I asked for water n napkins n she asks who is your server. Cmon like u don’t know after she told u about the pizza? So I told her the server has poor attitude n absolutely no service. No apologies nothing. They then had another server come to our table with water. Horrific service!!! I have never been so traumatized by dinner ever. The ineptitude, incompetence is just mind boggling. Or they are all just idiots who clearly don't need the business during this pandemic. I guarantee never to return and I will share my horror story with everyone I know. Just absolutely unacceptable and inexcusable service...
Read moreElegant local treasure serving fresh, authentic Greek dishes. The Spanakopita platter is lovely. Good wine choices and friendly service. Gets busy, so call ahead and book! No outdoor dining. CCs accepted. Prices can be a buck or two more than other places since the renovation. They close for a week or two in August. Update- August 2022: This is one of our two favourite Greek restaurants in Vancouver, and we enjoy dining on their outdoor patio in the warm weather. Although they no longer have their Spanakopita platter on the menu, they are always happy to get us one (unlike the old one, there are no dolmades anymore). We started with an order of saganaki with pita and also split a large Greek salad. Everything was fresh and delicious. They were out of the rosé by the glass on the menu, and substituted one normally sold by the bottle only. We liked the carafe of water, as my partner drinks lots. We also shared their baclava for dessert and loved it. Bathrooms are impeccably clean. Staff tremendously friendly and work together as a team. Credit card machines do not work on the patio, so I paid inside. Prices on the OpenTable page are not up to date, check the restaurant website for current menu. Always enjoy a delightful meal here. August 2023: No more patio, but the food and service are always spectacular. We come before 6:30 as things are cooked to order, we like to dine before it gets too busy. Everything was top notch, however the faucet in the bathroom...
