After hearing from several sources that this was the best place in Vancouver to get fish-n-chips I had to make it a stop on our trip. It’s a small shack right downtown on the water, which couldn’t be a better setting. The shack is well-maintained and the staff did their job. They didn’t go out of their way to be personable, but it’s obvious they are busy and trying to work quickly. We were one of the first people there and it was still a 20 minute line to order. Our food took about a half an hour to be called after we ordered. We managed to get a seat, but there is not a lot of seating around. There is a fairly large parking lot that was barely used, so it could be a good idea for them to expand the seating area into there and have umbrellas in case it rains. If you are set up like a fast food restaurant, it needs to take you less time to make the food. It’s a small menu, mainly consisting of fries, fried fish, and chowder, so they need to either hire more or find a way to have the food prepared quicker. It’s all about the prep work. We both ordered the halibut fish-n-chips, which were delicious. Probably my second favorite fish-n-chips I have ever had. (My favorite is in OH, which doesn’t make sense at all, right?!) The fish was extremely fresh and the batter was light and melted in my mouth. I also got their soup, which was a seafood chowder with an Asian flare. It was also good. Overall, I would definitely go back. The food was really good, the view was stunning, and it wasn’t overly priced. However, they have a couple things to work on to really give them the...
Read moreI've been coming to go fish for years. I always took people here when they were visiting out of town as it's a great place to enjoy the view and the food. The price is not bad for the amount of food you get.
Today I ordered two orders of the cod fish and chips 2 piece and the oyster po boy.
The cod fish and chips were pretty good today. It's sometimes a hit and miss. Today the fish was a bit overcooked but the chips were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I like the chewiness of the batter. That might sound weird but it's good. It's crispy and chewy. The fish portion is pretty big and definitely filling.
It's my first time ordering the oyster po boy at Go Fish. I'm not used to having a none deep fried oysters po boy. They were pretty generous with the oysters. The sandwich doesn't come with fries but it does come with slaw. I actually quite enjoyed the sandwich. Its not as oily because it's not fried and the oysters were nice and plump. The tomatoes and sauce added a nice freshness.
I visited on a Saturday at around 1:00 pm and it was very busy. We waited around 25-30 minutes to order and then another 15 minutes for our order so plan ahead if you are hungry.
Would definitely recommend the fish and chips. Unfortunately they don't have any dining space open right now but you can find a space to eat on a nearby bench and enjoy the view of downtown to really complete the ultimate fish and...
Read moreGreat fish and chips place on/across(?) from Granville Island. Well liked by many. It is off the main area of the Granville market and overlooks the water. Staff are friendly and still tolerated my foodmates "dad joke". One chef I will call the "Go fish karaoke rocker"...he was so happy singing along to Foo Fighters and Blink 182...hilarious. I got the salmon, which was hot and well battered, not too heavy like other amateur fish and chips makers. Chips were the best, hot, thick cut and well fried with a hint of salt...this always makes the dish. I am surprised the salmon kept the moisture. Not the usually fish to use in fish and chips. My foodmate had the Halibut. All food was served in bamboo steamers which are usually used for dim sum...cute and unique touch. Coleslaw had no mayo, this was the best part! I am very impressed of the salt and pepper vinegar flavouring. Ambiance: Overlooking the water and great place to people watch those who are running or bicycling at the waterfront. Has both large communal tables and smaller two-fers at the "bar". Cost: $12-15 for single piece with chips depending on the fish. Only caution, is the crows in the area! They are watching to steal anything from you! Otherwise, overall unassuming, tasty and reasonably priced fish and chips shack on the edge of the water with outdoor patio space to enjoy the scenery. Really would rate it 4.5 stars! A gem in the craziness of...
