We found this cafe in the late afternoon of a Saturday. We needed an energy boost after walking around Granville Island. We go to Granville Island quite often, but we have never been to this side and have never noticed this cafe.
We ordered a coffee, a cookie and a tart. Everything tasted great, but they were priced towards the higher range.
The interior design looked good, too. However, towards the closing hours, the cafe might not look its best in terms of tidiness. There was a lady having a video cal behind me, and she was quite loud. She also played her hair at the same time, so much so that her hands touched my head a few times, which was quite annoying. Not the fault of the cafe, though. Perhaps if the chair was not placed so close to me, it could have helped.
In a higher end cafe like this, I did not expect people being loud like that. However, I am not a regular to cafes, so I do not have an idea of how people...
Read moreInteresting cafe near Granville Island with rooftop seating! I loved the rooftop! They have lots of housemade baked goods, gelato, coffee and tea, and some sandwiches and salads. A little sparse on the sandwich selection when I arrived around 3 on Saturday. I ordered a caprese sandwich, a pistachio cheesecake, and an iced hojicha latte. The sandwich was pretty good. The baguette seemed very fresh and tasted great. Just the right amount of pesto. The cheesecake was kind of a showstopper - it was super creamy with a lovely pistachio flavour. The crust itself was made from candied pistachios which I thought might be overkill but it actually was a great enhancement to the cheesecake. The hojicha latte wasn't bad but I wasn't impressed; I wanted the hojicha to be stronger. The barista that took my order was a little soft-spoken but not unfriendly. They were super quick with toasting my sandwich and...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped by Tru Cafe for the first time before heading to Granville Island, and we’re so glad we did! This cozy local spot has a great selection of homemade baked goods, mini cakes, and some of the most popular Gelato flavours, everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, and the place was spotless, including the washrooms and seating area. It’s clear they take pride in maintaining a clean and inviting space. I remember this location used to be a Starbucks, but I’m really happy to see it transformed into a locally owned café. Supporting local businesses like Tru Cafe is so important, and this one definitely deserves the support. Whether you’re heading to Granville Island or wrapping up a long walk there, I highly recommend stopping by. There’s even a rooftop seating area if you want to relax outside and enjoy some fresh air. We'll...
