Read moreI was so excited when I heard about the special collaboration Beta5 Chocolates was having with Amy (@constellationinspiration) to create Asian dessert inspired cream puffs, and I wasn’t disappointed!
I managed to preorder all three flavours so I didn’t have to queue or be turned away because they ran out. This collaboration is turning out to be super hot. It’s almost impossible to get your hands on these cream puffs!
The three flavours available are: Salted Egg Yolk Custard Mochi (流沙包), Mango Coconut Sago (芒果西米露) and Ube Milk Tea Toast (奶茶+煉奶西多).
The Mango Coconut Sago tasted exactly like it’s namesake. There was a strong mango flavour and tapioca bits in the filling. The flamingo macaron on top was cute but definitely tasted stale.
The Salted Egg Yolk Custard Mochi was hands down my favourite of the three. The balance of the salted egg yolk with the sweeter vanilla cream was perfect. Similar to the mango puff, the macaron was stale and not very tasty.
The Ube Milk Tea Toast was the weakest of the three in my opinion. It was good, but I felt the flavours were very light compared to the other two flavours and I don’t think they really worked well together.
Overall, I was really impressed by these cream puffs. I wish they would be added to the...
Read moreMaybe best to steer clear? I don't know what happened to this place. Their flavours haven't always clicked with me but their quality was above reproach. Sadly, that's no longer the case.
I bought a couple of their Mother's Day 3-cream puff boxes. To my dismay, some of the cream puffs were burnt. There was also something baked into the bottom of one that was either a small hair or a piece of bristle, maybe from a pastry brush.
How do you let that product go out? I never thought I would have to examine their pastries in-store before walking away with them. Very disappointing.
Their customer service is non-existent now, too. No response to email in a week, no one answers their phone in-store, nor do they seem to return calls if you leave a message.
The kicker? They were advertising a 15% off sale on 6 or more cream puffs on their website. I bought 6 in total but received 10% off the price of the cream puffs instead...
EDIT
The business did reach out to me and provide me with a full refund for the cream puffs after this review was posted. It's unfortunate that it seemed to take this review to elicit a response from them, though.
If I ever return to the store again, I will revise this review, taking any new experiences...
