August 2022 Just had to come back again for the perfectly cooked wonton in a bowl of a bit undercooked noodle AND my once every month treat - deep fried pork intestines! I only dare to eat this infrequently as it’s just too much cholesterol and Uric acid (ouch!). My better half ordered the sweet and sour pork rice - nothing special except at least it’s not all fat/grizzle like many other places. Nothing’s changed except that I was a bit put off by them asking for more tip when I left only about 12%! Really didn’t appreciate this and I really should cut my ratings to 3 stars - but what the heck - times are not great and I guess all food service staff needs a bit more; but it really should be the bosses who takes care of their staff instead of them having to deal with us patrons to get a bit more. ————— THE place for the best wonton noodle! The noodles are perfectly cooked and not over-cooked - like what happens in most other places in Vancouver and North America. Still springy and chewy, with that perfect consistency - and if you're brave, tell them to NOT overcook/over-boil the noodles when ordering! The wonton? Scrumptious, large and chock full of fresh shrimp as is expected for great wontons. And the broth, pretty sure it's made with the pork bones and shrimp shells with just a touch of MSG (yeah, this is indeed a requisite for great wonton noodle broth!) All this goodness for a bit over $8 - what a deal! We also ordered their curry chicken (only OK, nothing special) and the West lake beef soup - or as in their menu - Chinese parsley and minced beef soup, and this is great - just the perfect taste and consistency. Why not 5 stars for this review? Well ... the premises leaves a bit to be desired/can do with a bit of modernizing/cleaning, but hey - this is really a cheap, great eatin' rezzie!! Enjoy!! ………. A month later - Just had to come back for the perfect wonton noodles! And as usual, cooked just right! Still springy noodles - never overcooked - and huge yummy wontons! Also ordered the deep fried spicy tofu which is also perfectly cooked - crispy on the outside, flavourful inside - only possible if cooked over high heat - but again not over-cooked; otherwise the tofu would explode and there goes the whole thing. I’ve taken the liberty of taking pictures of their very extensive menu - something I’d order from if with more people as their other items are also GREAT!! Will beat just about any other fancy Chinese rezzies in Vancouver, simply because their cooks...
Read morePlease don’t go there. Their service is horrible and unacceptable Thís is the first time we dine in this restaurant and this will be our last time. We give this restaurant one star is out of our kindness. We dine in a lot of restaurants and we have never experience this kind of customer service before. Staff are so rude and ignorant. Now, we will tell our story so everyone can judge whether the restaurant deserves one star. Five of us just finished a party, and arrived the restaurant at 10 minutes to 12:00 am. We waited for a while until finally a waitress came to our table. We ordered 7 dishes and a bowl of congee. The waitress was already rude but we thought probably it was late and she might have a bad day. The food came out pretty fast, so we just ate. Three dishes were a bit salty, so we finished the congee faster. At this time, we noticed they turned off the “Open,” so we said they were going to close so we better order another bowl of congee to finish up the dishes. We ordered another bowl of congee and the waitress told us no more congee. We nicely asked her: “Can you kindly go in a check?” She said in an ill-manner tone that the chef already left. We then told them if you told us ahead of time that only one bowl of congee left and they were closing at 1:00 am, we would not sit down. Now with 7 dishes of food, how we would finish since they are salty too. The waitress then told us impolitely: “5 people only eat one bowl.” At this moment, we knew this restaurant did not know how to do business. We then asked for the owner and no one came. The waitresses and waiters just totally ignored us. Finally, the congee came, but none of us wanted to eat anymore because they started to turned off some lights when in the restaurant still had 4 tables still dinning. If they could turn off lights, then they really did not care about their customers. We went to the counter and paid the bill. We told the owner what happened and he did not care. This is a warning to all consumers that Congee Noodle King is the worse restaurant in the city. Please do not waste your money to a restaurant that does not know what is “Customer Services.” If they nicely told us, we will understand. Instead, they treated their customers without any manner. We don’t like writing complain review at all, but Congee Moodle King deserve this bad review, so the restaurant will not ruin other consumers’ dining...
Read moreWent to Congee Noodle King with a friend to have Christmas Day dinner. I can now claim to have had the some of the worst Chinese food ever. I don't come by this statement without some considerable lifetime experience. I am a born and raised Vancouverite, and have been eating out at a broad selection of Chinese restaurants since the early 60's. Ming's, Yen Lock, Ho Inn, Green Door, On On, Flamingo, New Castle, Pink Pearl, On Lock, Bill Kee, Peninsula, Hon's, Western Lake. Just to mention a few. The meal...The worst crab ever. $50.00 for a dry, impossible to remove the meat from the the shell. When one did get the meat out, it was all shreaded and dry. This happens when the crab is old, keep in a tank far too long, has been dead, near death, or frozen. It took so much time and effort to try and eat it, the rest of our dishes became cold durring the work out. All the other dishes, except for the small bowl of scallop & Chinese mushroom congee which was OK, were just awful. The Kung Pao chicken was unrecognizable as such. It had few pieces of small diced chicken, mostly onions, celery, and peanuts in an overly soy sauced coating. The supposed Sliced beef in Satay sauce on fried noodle, was covered in yet another over soy sauced, greasy, corn starched concoction. Nothing close to a Satay. Total price for this Christmas nightmare for two people was $95.00 with tip $110.00. I can now claim to have been to this place on two occasions. FIRST & LAST! You have now been given fair warning. By the way, I took my chefs training in 1976, apprenticed at both the Hotel Vancouver and Banff Spings Hotel from '76- '78, and have been cooking for nearly 50 years. Next time you want to go for Chinese food, find any list of, or site that has a list of restaurants. Close your eyes, wave your hand over it, touch it with your index finger, and go to that restaurant. I guarantee it will be better...
