Horrible customer service.
Me and my friends come here quite often for their 3 items for $15.50 deal, the sushi is quite good and previous times we always had decent service from their younger staff. However, this time we were serviced by an older waitress, and it was a terrible dining experience. We barely were serviced. We had to ask for basic things multiple times (ie.water refills/ to-go containers) and even when asked, they were not provided till way later, it got to a point where my friend had to stare her down at the counter for our container that she forgot to give us. The restaurant was not busy at all, it’s understandable if it was a full house, but she was just standing at the front counter chatting to other coworkers. I can tolerate poor service, but what bothered me the most was that she was talking poorly and judging our table in Cantonese to her coworkers, I’m guessing she presumed we weren’t Chinese; however, I understood her whole conversation in Cantonese, and even my non-Chinese friends felt uncomfortable as they noticed the other staff members were started to stare at us from what our waiter was saying in Cantonese.
Food wise, the sushi was good; however, I have to mention the chicken in the chicken udon was way over cooked: it was very dry and burnt tasting, none of us finished the chicken udon we each ordered. At this point we just wanted to leave from everything that we had experienced, to make matters worse, when paying our waiter had this very annoyed attitude/body language like she expected a higher tip amount from us, she never asked how our food was/ thanked us or tried to engage in any friendly small talk, she just looked at our receipts to see how much we tipped and proceeded to walk away. She should be lucky we even tipped after our terrible dining experience with her.
Overall, I don’t see myself coming back here for awhile. I don’t recommend this place either, unless you want to be poorly serviced by a very unprofessional and...
Read morePlace is usually busy. Service is most of the time top notch nonetheless.
Not the greatest experience last time I visited which was surprising. The online system was down so we couldn't order online and had to go to the restaurant and order there. Unfortunately we were not offered to sit and wait while having to wait for 30 mins standing up, even though there were empty tables. Service has been good before, but the server didn't know how to handle the situation this time as there were other tables where we could sit in the meantime or even have some chairs at the front where you can sit and wait for the order since they made you go to the restaurant in the first place.
I think I haven't tested their customer service much since the online order system is so reliable and they always have the order ready when I come to pick it up, but having to actually wait for an order place in the restaurant might expose some of their customer service flaws which I'm hoping are just an aberration rather than the norm now and hopefully due to new or maybe on training staff.
Update:
Unfortunately, their service has become unbearable. There has been several incidents which have made me switch to other options and everytime I want to give them another chance they disappoint me again. The service isn't good anymore and I don't know if they care or not since they get many customers still. But service has gone down quite a bit since two years ago.
This is no longer my go-to sushi restaurants and I'd prefer further located options in the neighborhood but with better service and as good value for their food.
This place used to have 4.4 stars and it's down to 4.2 in a matter of months, so something isn't right with them and I'd probably guess it's...
Read moreI recently checked out Sushi Ali, this cute little sushi spot in Burnaby, and I've got some thoughts to share! First off, the place is cozy, small but super clean and impressively organized. It's like they're playing a game of Tetris with their seating, but in a good way.
The staff there are like sunshine in human form - friendly, welcoming, and quick with their service. I felt right at home, even though I was a newbie to Sushi Ali.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show – the food. It's good, don't get me wrong, but it didn't quite do a somersault in my mouth. I mean, it's sushi, right? Tasty, fresh, but not the kind of stuff that'll make you write a love song about it.
What's really nice is the pricing. It won't give your wallet a panic attack, and that's always a bonus, especially if you're on a lunch break mission.
In a nutshell, Sushi Ali is like that trusty friend you meet for lunch when you need a break from your daily grind. Not mind-blowing, but you'll leave with a satisfied tummy and a smile on your face. Give it a try for a solid lunchtime sushi fix! 🍣😊
