Called in an order for pick-up mid-day on a weekend. I was told my order would be ready in 5-7 minutes, and the restaurant wasn't busy when I picked up the food. They only take cash or debit card. I ordered the Grilled Lemongrass Chicken on Fried Rice ($16.75 on their physical menu). If only 5% GST was included, it should have come to $17.59. The lady showed me a calculator with $18.50 as my total, so that's what I ended up paying. I had checked the physical menu after-the-fact, although I can see from other reviews that they've told customers prices have increased since being printed. I'm not sure if there was also a bag fee included in that "total" or not, or tip input by the staff, but they did give me a plastic bag with my container. The food itself was fine. I thought the chicken could've been a bit more fragrant with the lemongrass flavour, and had more char. Same goes for the rice. The small side salad added some light freshness to the meal. It was enough for one and a half meals. The restaurant is open 24 hours so if in doubt on food, it's a place to go to, but there are other options in the area and the transparency on cost may be better.

Night Owls heaven and a Very Proper bowl of Pho.... There's not a whole lot of 24/7 Vietnamese restaurants in Vancouver and this one on busy Kingsway fits the bill on an early weekend morning when I had a craving for a hot bowl of noodles. The parking lot in front of the place shares with London Drugs and practically empty. However inside the small resto there's 4-5 tables with customers. Had my classic Pho Dac Biet on first visit to a Vietnamese place. It's got all the proper ingredients: different cuts of beef, both cooked and raw. Tendon, tripe, beef balls. Broth was flavorful. Basil leaves were fresh and crisp. So were the bean sprouts and a wedge of lime. Perfect. The large size at $9 was fair and filling. A satisfying meal after a few squirts of Huy Fong Sriracha. Bun Bo Hue, on the other hand was a pho Dac Biet changing out a fatter noodle, adding different spices, minus the tripe and lacking the classic ingredients: pigs feet and blood. So not that authentic.

Summary: Meager food portion Tasteless food Dishonest and cunning shop owner I went to this Pho shop to have lunch today, and order their number 90 item: Curry Beef + French roll, which is listed for $13. I got half a bowl of watery curry sauce, which has almost no flavor; plus about 10 little cubes of beef brisket (each 1cm x 1cm x 2cm), of which half is fat and half is meat, and a puffy french roll (~8 inch long). Unfortunately, half of the beef brisket little cubes are unedible as they are chewy and tough. The food portion is very meager and not tasty at all. Finally, I finished a meal, and paid the bill at the counter. I gave a 20 dollar bill to the lady, and she returned 5.25 to me. I was skeptical, and she told me the price printed on the menu is the old price, the new price is one dollar more. THIS IS NOT PRINTED ANYWHERE, AND I HAVE NOT BEEN INFORMED DURING THE ORDERING PROCESS. This is a total ripped off, and I will not dine at this cunning restaurant again.

When my friend asked for a beverage she tried to up sale us on the more expensive drink but my friend just wanted a pop ($3.75). It took multiple times for her to understand what pop she wanted. When our order arrived my friend got pork instead of the chicken she ordered and we were kind of uncomfortable with the wait staff attitude. I asked her if she wanted to change it and we decided not too because the waitress seemed stressed or something. When she bit into the pork it was very dry. I don't normally eat pork but I tried it and agreed. She tried pouring the sauce on it but only ended up eating a 3rd of it. In the meantime I had asked for soya sauce. I asked her directly when she came by and she did not acknowledge. Then I got up and asked her and she looked away. My friend got up to get a bottle from another waitstaff. I tried to hold my hand to waive for tea but was ignored multiple times. I watched in the mirror as she served everyone tea. At this point my friend stated how she thought "that lady had a bad energy". We watched how she interacted with other clients. We discussed how it seemed to be geared to us. I got up and asked for tea from another wait staff who poured it from the pot for me. We put our utensils down for a while and the initial waitstaff asked us if we were ready to go. We said yes and could we have some containers. My friend thought she could at least take the rice home since the pork was unpalatable. We waited another ten minutes. We decided to leave without the food and I wanted to pay and let the staff at the counter know why I would not be giving a tip. My friend was standing next to me who is about 4'9" as I waited to pay and it was a bit close to a table that was being served. Anyone who has been there knows how small it is. I love supporting these kinds of restaurants. We have never had bad service before. My friend bumped into me and told me in that moment that the wait staff that was serving us had physically shoved her from her back to get her to move. I suggested she wait outside to avoid further conflict . I told the other staff who I paid my bill too some of the story and that I would not be leaving a tip. It took a while for them to come so my friend came back in and heard the last of it. I left and then realized I had forgotten my bag and had a feeling of dread going in. I retrieved it and when I got back outside my friend said she hated that lady. I said those were strong words but I could understand. Today I returned to work and the experience still bothered me. so I decided to write this review. I was left with many questions about my dining experience and a frown I hope that server finds some peace and she is well supported by...

UPDATE 2025: I will have to bring it down a star unfortunately. This was more frustration than anything. I did hold Gold Train at a easier standard due to them being busy and open 24hrs.

This time, I called in our order. THIS IS THE ISSUE. The communication is all jumbled up. Language barrier + rushing because of a dinner rush... ordering specifics were not clear enough.

I always order Fresh Springroll with Tofu and Peanut sauce. Well, when we got there, picked up our food and when I go to my In Law's house, it was fried spring roll.

There were a couple of slip ups with the soup too. My wife asked to have soup with tofu only (no meat) and they put soup with tofu added. My wife explained it to them in person and what the lady did was make a new soup and put tofu only... but also charged us (when she explained it, it seemed like they were gonna correct the mistake).

So unfortunately, the price and miscommunication really turned me off from going here again.

** Going in person is way better that way you can point to what you want on the menu and explain what to replace. That was harder of the phone, especially when they are rushed and the language barrier isn't clear.

Pre Pandemic review (In person) Super Busy Fast Service. Good amount of seats.. but busy at times. 24hrs open Great staff Good prices.

I've had a lot of dishes here and I'm never upset about the...

I would like to review Gold train Vietnamese restaurant. I ordered a vermicelli bowl with marinated pork and spring roll.

Service: I had ordered a vermicelli dish but the server brought it to the wrong table. It stayed there with the guest who handled the food before he commented it was not his. The server tried to give it to me but by this point I wouldnt accept food that someone else had before them for a minute. I opted to order another dish instead of walking out. 2/5

Food: This replacement dish in Vietnam is known as Com Tam Suon (broken rice). While I did not expect broken rice, I expected the pork chop to NOT taste like curry. The meat was probably meant for another dish and microwaved (it didn't come out freshly grilled). The vegetable garnish wasn't the typical Vietnamese pickled vegetables that is normally served with a meal.

Taste: 2/5

Overall: I was charged more for this dish than the listed price on the menu -- I suppose it was their way of getting back at my refusal to accept the meal the other person handled.

I guess they assumed I couldn't speak or understand Vietnamese even though I made the order in Tieng Viet.

I respect they struggle to keep standards up being a 24/7 restaurant.

This place may be better just for the pho but I won't come back when there are other Vietnamese restaurants that do in it better and wouldn't try to swap plates then charge extra...
