6/29/23 Update: TLDR; if you have allergies to fruit, don't patron here. Lack of care in preparation and does not take your allergies seriously.
This was my go-to neighbourhood bubble tea since their original location on Fraser St. I am a patron for over 15 years, so upon visiting today I noticed the service and quality has greatly decreased.
I ordered their daily special, fresh watermelon and honeydew. There was a group of 2 before me and a group of 6 after me. I observed the drinks being prepared and noticed the "honeydew" melon was orange, not green. With suspicion, I confirmed if the drink was made with honeydew or cantaloupe. She said it's honeydew but realized its cantaloupe, I informed her I am allergic, please make me a new one with the correct order.
She continues making the 6 drinks, taking well over 10mins while knowing I am standing idly by. I ask if they're out of honeydew or something as this is reaching my 20min mark in the store. She rudely tells me she needs check the back, and need to finish the 6-drink group order first before she gets to me. I remind her I placed my order first, probably a good 10mins before the group arrived.
At this point, she continues to finish up other drinks without acknowledging or hustling to rectify her mistake. I ask for a refund and she hands me $5.50 flat, minus the taxes I paid. I didn't notice until I left.
I understand the volume of orders they receive, hence why I only spoke up after giving them some space. I'm grossly disappointed with the service, any people have serious allergies to all sorts of fruit, this lack of diligence is life-threatening and the unapologetic attitude ascertains my decision...
Read moreProbably one of the best bubble tea stores I've tried in my entire career as a barista at Chatime. Everything about the place was a 10/10 would recommend experience. Walking inside made me feel warm and at home as well as the sweet aroma inside the store. Apart from that, the prices and portions were very reasonable during weekly specials where the drinks cost 3.35-4.10 depending on the size you get. Last night I got their weekly specials fresh red bean and sago plus an oreo vanilla cheesecake with coconut jelly. As a barista worker myself, I would've never expected to encounter "FREE coconut jelly and FREE pearls" and I was very surprised and joyful. Big appreciation for the workers and the boss for having overwhelming generosity and kindness when serving customers like us. When I arrived at 10:30pm, the wait was approximately 10-15min but it was all worth it in the end because during that time I sorted out what I was about to order. As expected of a long line, the wait time would be long but oh was I wrong, the workers made it very fast and with precision. Looked good, nothing wrong so I took a first sip. Everything tasted very fresh and high quality. My oreo vanilla cheesecake really hit the spot for the sweetness, not too sweet nor not too bland. Not to mention their coconut jelly was fantastic and flavourful(the ones where you bite in and breaks apart in your mouth unlike other stores it feels like chewing gum). That was basically my first experience at a bubble tea shop. Will definitely come back in...
Read moreAlways loved going to Milk & Sugar over the past decade, but staff recently have been absolutely TERRIBLE.
I ordered a drink from their weekly specials and forgot to add pearls.. so I very politely asked the staff on cash, the shorter boy with glasses and puffy hair, if I could still add pearls. He immediately threw his hand up and waved me away, telling me, "It's already made," in a very rude manner, but I said okay and left it. However, my friend and I did not see any drinks made and continued to wait another 15 minutes before we watched him make the drink from scratch. They had already served others who had ordered after us as well. When I picked up the drink, I mentioned that he had said it was already made 15 minutes ago and he proceeded to ignore me, so I left. Had he told me that it was not possible to add pearls after the order had already been placed instead of snapping and making gestures at me, I would have been perfectly happy with the order as it was.
The next time that I went to Milk & Sugar, the same staff was working, but he was not on cash. He was making drinks. When I received my drink, there was a VERY large block of ice inside, which I have NEVER seen in a bubble tea and which made it difficult to drink and took away from the contents of the drink. Was it a deliberate act of passive aggression? Or was it an honest mistake? I can't imagine that large of a chunk of ice could be an error.
Love Milk & Sugar, but awful and...
